hmm never heard of sound mag, might have to google that one..

sounds was like nme, melody maker and record mirror (before record mirror became pop and glossy a4-sized) - but far far better.

Sounds was without a doubt the best weekly music paper the UK has had in the last 30 years, because it didn't do the "let's make up a story cos we have pages to fill" thing that the other papers did and which nme still does now. It was a paper far more based on the real truth than hype than the alternatives (except perhaps MM, tho that was always a little too dry for me).
