twenty_foot_chickens
The Cure have been awarded with this award; so will they follow on with Primal Scream & Manic Street Preachers and appear next year? I bloody hope so.
ste4_20
Fingers crossed. Can't quite see them headlining the tent though... Would have to headline, one of the few bands that would bring me back to Leeds Fest. Give them a 3 hour slot too if you want to do it properly. They were just incredible at Wembley Arena last March. If you ever get the chance to see them, do it.
thomasowen
In my opinion there isn't a big chance of them playing, they dont seem to do festivals. They're too big to headliner the NME starge (although many godlike genius's have done) but not popular enough at the moment to headline main stage

thomasowen
They'd walk onto the top of the bill if they agreed to play They're easilly a big enough draw Edited October 28, 2008 by thomasowen

Benj
I strongly disagree, maybe its just because they haven't done much since 2003 but I have rarely seen them mentioned on these boards EVER. Plus they are hardly a big selling band these days. I just dont see them having mass appeal. Last time the orginizers went with an act of a simular status it was widely agreed to be the lowest attendence for a headliner ever (pixes) They have gone for big selling acts for the last couple of years, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, RATM, The Killers, Muse etc. All number 1 acts. ste4_20
The tent thing was intended as sarcastic. If they played, they'd headline. I don't know how people can argue otherwise. I'd put them as similar to Pearl Jam rather than Pixies too. I'd be incredibly surprised if they do R/L though.

ste4_20
Pearl Jam were the biggest selling band of the 90s in America, I dont think The Cure come anywhere near that. And when you consider a few 'godlike genius' have headlined the NME stage in recent years, it wouldn't be impssible (but very unlikely)
VCK
The Cure would obviously headline.
thomasowen
It might just be in my circle of friends but almost all haven't seen them live, they'd go quite a way to do so. Plus; it'd be worth it just for a day full of Robert Smith look-a-likes...
Un Adepte Des Raconteurs
To all the people who don't think The Cure would headline the main stage based on past precedent, remember Pixies in '05??? Not saying I think there's much chance they will headline, but if they play, they are easily of the right calibre.
candy_cane_boy
they sold out wembley arena in ten mins this year, i'm sure they'd have sold out wembley stadium if they wanted to play a bigger venue. the demand for them is huge (partly because like Pearl Jam they don't play enough in the UK) if they played, they WOULD headline and day tickets would sell out in 12 seconds

thomasowen
Their new album went in at 33. Surely that proves they aren't popualr enough to headline a mjaor festival like Reading and Leeds?

thomasowen
The Ting Tings had a No.1 album, maybe they should headline.
rexclark
I doesn't have to be as black and white as if they would headline or not. I doubt they have the appeal to the demographic that Reading/Leeds attracts to headline but thats not to say that they couldn't play second top. Who they would play under I don't have a clue. redstar
seem to remember that they played before the strokes at oxegen, but if the cure did play reading & leeds - definite headliner. thomasowen
They have just been anounced to headline NME's big gig which was last year headlined by Manic Street Preachers. Considering Manics also got godlike genius which has also been won by a few other radio 1 stage headliners I wouldn't say it is out of the question to for the cure to headline NME stage. I mean Manics new album got to number 2 or 3 in the chart and The cures got to 30 something so If Manics can headline the stage why cant The Cure?
