  1. if its King Sunny Ade then it was 1983 - I am not into his music but I did spot his bright yellow suit ' with tassels' - he was running all over the stage shaking some ' stick with bells on ' the bottom close up shot - not sure the date but that does not matter - look at the ground - there was no barriers with line of security behind it and there was not much security on the stage as time and time again some people would climb up ' not to attack the act but just to get on ## for some reason they preferred the left hand side ## one act for some reason there was lots of people climbing up - not sure who was on but security ran away and came back with what appeared to be cooking Oil and poured it down ## but one person who was covered in oil managed to get up on the stage ## and there was a huge roar from the crowd. the other photo I think was 1981 £8 a weekend ticket and 18,000 were sold ## but if you ran a small stall - the cost was £40 { which gave entry to two people } ##
  2. don't worry Kev some people do know me as Brian {over the years I have met a fair number of people who post on efest } - I spotted wristband of a guy next to the notice board and it was yellow so had to be 1986. There was some crackers and some jokers used to place a drug advert - 5th tent on the right down drug alley - best Ganja at Good prices . Now I was told by a person who works in the information tent { Has Done For Many Years } that they used to clear the boards every 24 hours - now I did not see it myself but I would believe him - not sure if it was common knowledge but most people only had a 24 window for their notice would be spotted. By the way Jim { Who Lives In Thailand } he had the model before that - the one that came inside a attache case - he bought it { cost a bomb } but he rarely took it out from his car as it was so heavy ## and he was well happy when some Joker stole it as it was insured ## I got him to call the phone ' and the thief answered ' and he wanted silly money for him to return it when we gave him the good news ' that he was getting bugger all' and we got the phone switched off that same day.
  3. if you look at the 1979 map you will see a red dot and that was a camping field where you could park your car - in fact most of the site you could park and camp ' although you had to think about when you wanted to leave. I am not sure when ' they imposed the one way exit system ' so more important to camp near the back Exit {East side} went into a tiny Country lane ' and if it was wet there was a river crossing the path of the lane !!! so the first few years { when it was a 3 day event } we would park near the red dot and as it got more busy it made sense parking near east side exit. There was no real markings where you could camp so the trick was to park two cars ' next to the exit track ' but with a good gap so there was room to manoeuvre them out - if you only had one car ' you could be buggered if the car either side of you the drivers were out of it ' Clearly as it got bigger it made more sense to separate the cars from the tents but by then I was working at the festival so have no idea which year the rule was imposed to force people to use a car park. Its a shame they blocked off the original entry lane - its still there { I know because I used that lane to visit in the Winter - very odd seeing the pyramid field covered in snow } No way did I think that I would still be going 43 years later the photos { not sure the year as they are paper photographs so no date stamp on them } sometime before I snuff it - I will start printing some 35mm negatives - I have many thousands and its a major project to sort though them all - most are from 1979 to 1987 as I had more time to take photos during that period but they cover every year it was on. Hope you find more hand typed notes { they were very interesting }
  4. No problem Kev - No fancy phones in those days - I wish I had photographed some of them - you used to get ' Tristan I am here but cant find Our Tent ## Help ## Nancy ' - the boards used to be covered in messages with only a slim chance the right person would see it.
  5. very interesting - I suspect your previous post was also from 1971 it does mention Tuesday 23rd - easy to get the date wrong I think they meant Tuesday 22nd June 1971 { that year it was over the Summer Solstice and was known as “Glastonbury Fayre”.} We know the first one was Saturday 19th of September 1970 Not Living Local - I had not a clue about any of these events and even in 1979 I only knew because a friends band was asked to play and I got roped in as I could drive. Compare the two maps - but in 1979 a weekend ticket was £5 but it was a 3 day event. All we had was a rough drawing of where it was - Pilton did not appear on a AA Car map at the time but we were told 'its near Shepton Mallet' There was a VW Camper and my little mini but the big turning point was in 1981 when he got CND involved as they were selling tickets from CND shops { all over the UK } but the price did leap up to £8 for a weekend ticket. I have never experienced trying to buy a Glasto ticket via the Internet - just dived into the local CND office and was out the door within seconds.
  6. sadly not - 2009 due to the crew Coach getting lost { its a long story - that was the year there was a huge queue though Glastonbury town that did not move for hours } the coach arrived at Red Gate but as it was 8 hours late { I kid you not } - The coach only had access up to Midnight - we arrived at 1.30 am and security would not let the coach in and I jumped off with my previous years photo id laminated pass round my neck ' and he spotted my 2008 pass and gave the word to let the coach in - it had not been my intention - I was only going to point out if they looked in the previous days book they would find it but I never got the time to explain. Not Claiming a old pass will work but it did for us ## that was the year they used ' Bushy Ground ' as crew camping - you can see over 1/2 of it was empty - must have made sense to someone ##
  7. thanks for asking - more tricky this year as because of Covid there has been no face to face meetings for a few years so its all up in the air and I will not hear for a month or I could hear tomorrow but what is more tricky is getting the right allocation as there is bound to be tons of Teams after places - in the old days I used to get 25 places - a impossible allocation to get these days so I would think they will restrict it to 6 or 8 - will know more at a later date.
  8. in fact there was huge demand for the Champagne - far out selling lager or Cider - so they made a wise choice on what was on offer. it was a scorching day so it was lucky they used this type of bar so people waiting were under shade. photo taking 9 September 2012 just before the gates opened.
  9. sorry but that is incorrect about Cider being cheaper - would not have a clue how many I have sold in the past 34 years but as you can imagine its a lot. in the Main Bars Cider { whatever version } has always been { well in my memory } slightly higher than Carlsberg and in some years ' was the same price as Carlsberg Export ' I know that in 2008 Carlsberg was £3.35 a pint Gaymer's Cider was £3.70 which was the same price as Carlsberg Export. I do not work in the public bars in recent years - here is one from Hyde park in 2012
  10. sorry but because of the Covid gap I would not have a Clue but will have a better idea After Friday 10th June { Kenwood House } - first event they do. but look at Cheltenham Festival A pint of Guinness was £7 - A pint of Carling was £6.90 ## although I suspect they run a ' cashless bar ' ## in a cash bar ' Carling would be £7 as its not worth the hassle at £6.90 ' take 3 pints - that would be either £20.70 or £21 and the time to sort out the change ' another Customer could be served ' In London I have seen £7+ for Lager this year but like every year ' You can never be certain until the price list is made up.'
  11. I have also been a volunteer with Oxfam {But not at Glastonbury} and if I had to pick either Oxfam or Avalon Bars/Shelter 100% I would pick Avalon Bars/Shelter !!! - I have never attempted to buy a Glastonbury ticket since 1987 {35 years ago} so I don't look at volunteer work as a second option if I don't get a ticket. When you are working in a busy bar the time will fly past - sure some shifts may clash but that is the price you have to pay for the security of camping in a crew site.
  12. I am not connected to Shelter but I know the people who run Avalon Bars & Events { some for 34 Years - I kid you not } ## in the T&C's it states ## - All volunteers must travel to and from the event on the coaches provided by Avalon Bars provided coaches. Avalon Bars coaches will be departing to Glastonbury during the day on Tuesday 21 June 2022 from various departure points around the country including Bristol, London and either Sheffield or Birmingham (TBC) If you fail to turn up to the coach pick-up points for travel to Glastonbury without a justifiable reason, your deposit will be forfeited and you will not be eligible to volunteer in future years. ----------------- You have to look at it ' from their point of view ' they cant have random people showing up as its far more hassle than its worth to get them though the gates and into the crew area. Hence why they want everyone to travel by Coach. I have worked in the bars that Avalon Bars now run and they are small to medium and the shift pattern is not bad at all 3 days x 8 hours or 4 days x 6 hours or 2 days x 8 hours plus 2 days x 4 hours ## I work 6 days x 6 hours {with the Sunday evening running on well past the 6 hours} ## You should think yourself lucky you have a offer of a place.
  13. Love it - is that your next project Kev ? you could earn a fair bit of money £50 notes a toss !!! In the old days ' they used to dig a tunnel but these bloody Bastards used to charge { have not a clue how much - but lets say £10 } to enter the tunnel but at the other end there was a few heavies who charged another £10 claiming it was ' their tunnel ' and they were not connected to the other ones { all bollocks of course but people would pay twice just to get away }
  14. Not 100% ### I did skip part of it but from 10mins in I did listen ### I have never been walked though a ' pedestrian gate ' without a ticket or pass But I have been transported though in a Security Land rover { controlled by Specialized Security - the ones you see at the barrier of the Pyramid stage - a whole mob of them } I had parked in the press/vip area ' outside the wall ' and reached a Portacabin to pick up my pass ' but there was no one inside and discovered people would have to wait 2 hours { but it was supposed to be open } - lucky enough a Specialized Security Land rover full of supervisors {they wear red rather than blue} stopped and the head supervisor {I have knowing since 1988} called me over and asked me to step in and they drove me to the WBC compound { inside the wall } - which gave me a chance to pull up the joker who should have been at that bloody Portacabin - his claim was ' there was No one waiting ' when I knew there was 30+ staff waiting for their pass so I had a word with his Boss and he was sent up to the Portacabin. Now that head supervisor knew I would be working there but he did not recognize anyone else so they had to wait - but I did tell them I would get it sorted out and some did thank me later on when Portacabin joker did start doing his job and checking ID and handing out passes. but lets accept she did get in ' what I find doubtful about is her being able to access a crew area ' without photo id or wrist band as - I know they are checked when you enter/leave the crew camping site and certainly where our Old Crew site was ' they also checked at the gate { as per photo } - sure other Crew areas have their own procedures but ## 100% security will be checking photo id or wrist band as they don't want any random stranger to access the area and to rob it blind as people know that the tents will be empty { well most of them } - ## I cant see any Crew wrist pass on this female so its highly unlikely that she could walk in and out of any crew area like she claims. No one is that Lucky.
  15. love your photo First time I saw the Stones was in Glasgow either 1966 or 1967 - it was either The Green's Playhouse or the Odeon - my two older brothers took me for my Birthday { so I was between 12 or 14 } - I still have the ticket { somewhere } and it was between 35 pence and 50 pence { 10 bob as it was then } and ' there was two Bands on before the Stones ' By 1971 prices were higher - 70 pence !!! - Green's Playhouse ' and yes I was there - there was some times ' they would do two shows per day ' I kid you not - This Is Not My Ticket Stub {but it is from 1971} Green's Playhouse was a interesting place - renamed The Glasgow Apollo on the 8th September 1973. First ever gig at the Apollo was Johnny Cash on the 5 and 6 September 1973 - followed by The Rolling Stones on the 16 September 1973 Never did I get up to Clouds - my name was on the House guest list {its a long story} so it should have been easy but each time I tried there as always a big battle between Punters and Security so would give it a miss + there was a disco close to it that was not well knowing so did not attract the Nutters.
  16. five of us went to Roger Waters but two decided to buy Gold circle and they liked it but this time they have bought general admission ## as it was impossible to meet up ## due to the phone reception issue { they don't have UK phones } they were unable to reach me and I was unable to reach them. anyway this time we will all meet up near the tube station so we don't have to worry about phone reception problems. That Presale is still going on as a friend bought one Wednesday evening as she was not certain if she could make it or not.
  17. I first looked at just after 10.00 but a friend had not confirmed so did not buy them - at 12.20 she got in touch so I went in again ' and got straight in ' and was able to buy two tickets - first time I saw was in Glasgow either 1966 or 1967 - my two older brothers took me for my Birthday { so I was between 12 or 14 } - I still have the ticket { somewhere } and it was between 35 pence and 50 pence { 10 bob as it was then } and ' there was two Bands on before the Stones ' By 1971 prices were higher - 70 pence !!! - Green's Playhouse good luck as it should be open all day.
  18. I meant ' the Coach location ' - we have never used it before - For reasons that must make sense to someone ## every few years they keep changing the London pick up point ## and this bloody year they are moving the Crew Camp {Has to be the 10th crew camp since they started in 1986}
  19. you should know better than me but is it York Way ? rather than York street Have marked it with a red dot . if you do recognise it and it is there ' be aware that other Crews { Not Avalon/Shelter } are also using York Way as a Crew Pick Up Point ' !!! I don't have the times yet but there could be a morning and afternoon pick up on the Tuesday.

    Beer Prices

    lets strip out the cost ' For Glastonbury ' and the main bars did not make any profit ' nor did they pay for any staff ' they would struggle to sell drink that cheap in 2022. while some people will think ' the Main bars always make a profit ' - I know there was some years where the main bars made a trading loss due to the weather. The Production costs are enormous and its all a big gamble.

    Beer Prices

    hang on - what exact year was that drinks menu from ? ## in general prices will roughly be current London pub prices ## was in a pub { not a fancy Pub } London Pub last week and they were selling some fancy type of Ale { god knows what it was as my friend was drinking it } but I did clock the price and it was £6.75 and Fosters lager was £6.25 so unless you have a Time machine I doubt you will see any of the main Public Bars selling any Pints at £4.00 Last time I was in The O2 Arena {Millennium Dome} it was £7 for lager and when the Stones played at London Stadium {also known as Olympic Stadium - near Stratford} in 2018 it was £7.50 for lager.
  22. what a pain for people - to be honest I had no idea about ' Strong Customer Authentication ' but video below may explain part of it https://youtu.be/AwKyllvN4S8 I tend to only use a few sites recently I noticed a change on the British Gas payment site - I have a Smartmeter { SMETS 2 } using the same card I have used before but there was one extra button to click but payment was accepted. I also recently used Thames Water to pay my annual water bill but did not spot any extra procedure. Good luck for anyone going though the process - its a stressful time - I did Oxfam in 2018 and found it well organised.
  23. You will find ' before the gates open to the public ' that there is many Crew bars open ## and its at that point ' you have to help yourself ' ## Its dead simple ' ask the bar staff !!! ' - they will let you know if you need a specific wrist band or not # and they may offer one to you - if you don't ask - you don't get # ----------------- once the festival is open to the Public - areas that you could enter may or may not be closed off so you may find the bar specific wrist band will get you though. One year { sorry after 40+ years attending Glastonbury I don't pay attention to actual dates any longer } I ran into a few guys who must have had 4 ' paper wrist bands ' { in various colours } each issued by various crew bars - god knows how they found the time. If you are a Volunteer and its a large organisation they may have their own Crew bar {and if you are dead lucky - it may be cheaper than a normal bar} Everyone in the shot below is all workers {taking on a Tuesday night - before the gates open} - taking at the Bread and Roses.
  24. well I have never seen one although some Crew Bars ' only allows in their own crew ' {mainly the ones where the drink is sold at a reduced price} apart from my own Crew Bar the only one I have tried is Tow and Hitch (Arcadia Crew Bar) mainly because my team works in our own Crew Bar on the Tuesday night so not enough time to hunt them down. but have a look at https://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/topic/229387-2019-crew-map/ Good luck
  25. it states ' From £400 Sleeps 1 to 5 - looks good but is expensive if there was only the two of you { or in your case 22 !!! with your bunch } + There are no cooking facilities for guests so 'that would put me right off'
