  1. There's a playlist on Spotify that has their two Ally Pally sets in from September. First half/set is probably closest to what they play - but the second half has all the other possibilities.

They won't though.  Aren't they just out for the stadium pay days?

Guns n Roses headlined last year. Green Day probably turn up at some stage.

Interesting. Have individuals changed or has the general demographic changed?

I could help out with negative comments if you want.

Isn't some of it just that it is now offered, whereas it wasn't before. I reckon lots of people have always hated putting up a tent, so the option not to do it themselves appeals.

did they have a tiny crowd???? how come if they were such a great booking????

Everyone I know who went had a cracking time. Many of whom were not at all up for it beforehand. Something a bit different to the usual.

Certainly made some of the doomsayers on here look very stupid.

was 2013. And I agree, I wasn't expecting much and thought they were excellent.

Was a lot of talk going into it that they would be rubbish. And in my opinion, it might be the best ever. The place erupted on those opening chords.

It's notable in his autobiography that Glastonbury doesn't even warrant a mention. As ever, we massively over-glamourise the place, for most acts it's just another gig. I think he'd be a good booking, the current show is good, but I don't really see it happening.

    Yeah definitely.

He did come over for Macca since though, and was in the thick of a classic, so may fancy another go.

I think he'd "get it" a lot more this time having stood side stage for Macca. Couple of wild songs choices for a festival crowd in 2009

That 2009 gig was his first festival in forever wasnt it?

Saw him do Isle of Wight in 2012 (tries on fallow year) and he was already ’getting it’ more.

Plus his current tour setlist isn't the one that would kill it for him.

Something like his first night at Hyde Park this time would go down a treat I think. The second half in particular.

Ungrateful Malaysian gays making the BBC news.

Clearly too backwards to understand that this was actually a good thing.

Still feels complex doesn’t it? Much more complex than basically everyone who’s engaged so far in this thread makes out.

It’s clear from the article many in Malaysia are not keen on this intervention but I still think there is a debate whether this means it is entirely wrong as it is natural oppression makes you nervy and scared. The ‘white saviour’ and ‘don’t come over here and criticise our country’ feels fair on one hand but also a bit Stockholm syndrome-ish on the other?

Also feels to me there short term and possible long term consequences.  Maybe short term it is bad - but also perhaps it had drawn awareness to the issue that could help longer term and it’s clear that silence has hardly worked in the past either…

Feels very complicated to me anyway.  The only conclusion I have made is that people over here have generally jumped on the incident whatever their knowledge to point score either way about Matt Healy rather than genuinely trying to support the Malaysian LGBTQ community.

(Already regret posting in here as most of the thread seems to be absolute nonsense.)

can't remember if it was the dizzee year now, but there was a wet year which was meant to be in a tent but a bit of the tent  equipment broke and they had to do an open outdoor stage instead.

I’m pretty sure it was this year. Always assumed they used the outdoor stage for Liam as the capacity was supposedly larger.

I would be surprised if they're gone for a band like The Streets though as I don't think they would be that popular locally. Maybe they're cheap.

I don’t really know where this idea would come from. The locals don’t have a backwards music taste ffs. PP acts have been really varied over the years.

There does seem to be a stronger and more sustained backlash this year.  If enough people complain to the festival they might yet reconsider.

I just saw this on twitter, and this is practically in the pit - how is anyone meant to see

It does feel like we have gone too far.  I voted for flags whenever that vote was a decade or so back

Except when he airs racist views openly in the media.

But hey I'm sure he has BAME friends.

    I hope they're never booked.

I get this but haven’t you called for Eminem in the past?

Stewards and security would do some stewarding and securitying.

Also most people do as they’re asked. When they asked people to pick up camping chairs at Elton the vast majority did. Those that didn’t quickly were encouraged to pick them up by others.

I didn't vote option 2 because I don't think it is realistic. I can't see how they would police it. So given the options that I feel could actually happen, I went with option 3 because I wouldn't want to see a total ban.

That’s fine but it is true then that you don’t really mind if others who wish to see can see the stage

  16. Also honestly have no idea how those that hold flags down the front think they should be allowed.

Those at the front are clearly down the front as they want to get a good view - but at the same time are fine with blocking the views of those behind.

Option 2 allows everyone to be happy

  17. 2 minutes ago, Cream Soda said:

I suspect some who like flags won't answer option 3 due to the loaded wording. So the result of the poll might not be as accurate as it could be.

It’s not actually loaded. If you want a load of flags at the front that block the view then that is just a statement of fact. People shouldn’t sugar coat it

What you mean is ‘I like flags and don’t care the people including those on disabled platforms can no longer see so please stop pointing out this is the case’

Option 2 is available for those that like flags and do want everyone to be able to see.

  18. 1 minute ago, Cream Soda said:

Never carried a flag myself and never will, I simply couldn't be bothered. But I do like them. I do think if option 3 were worded differently it might get a more honest result.

That is an honest result. A dishonest one would be pretending people behind can see!

The whole point of this thread is because the situation has got so bad people who want to go and see acts at the Pyramid - including those with mental or physical issues who can’t go down the front - can no longer see the stage.

  19. 3 hours ago, UEF said:

Say what you like about litter, gazebos, chairs or anything else -

But if you have a flag at the front you're blocking the view for literally thousands of people. I don't know how you can do that without asking yourself some searching questions.

Yeah and that’s why option 3 is worded correctly really. People might not like it being put so bluntly but if you have one at the front of a stage you simply do not care.

  20. 6 minutes ago, Cream Soda said:

I wouldn't have worded option 3 on the poll quite like that! But I do like the flags so I voted for it anyway.

Here's one of my favourite photos:

That's Leonard Cohen that is down there standing in the spotlight on the pyramid stage in 2008. It can't be literally anyone. It's Leonard Cohen and everyone knows it.

I completely reject any sort of horse-trading about imaginary lines on the ground beyond which a direct view of the stage is deemed immaterial by self appointed arbiters. f**k that sh*t

Absolutely this. If you were stood there 15 years later you wouldn’t see a thing sadly.

    Why isn't it?

If it's packed like it was for Elton with nowhere to move and you're stuck behind someone with half of Hobbycraft on their head then you're not going to enjoy it.

Because it's one bloke and he took it off? I don't think the people at the disabled platforms couldn't see because of tall people/anyone's hats tbh

This is what frustrates most people I think - if you're going to have 70-90 quid off people for stadium shows, you're setting an expectation that you're going to put on a show, run through all the old hits that people want to hear just like when they've seen you before/listen on their headphones or whatever, and even if the new material isn't designed for stadium shows then people will show it some goodwill.

They've been able to get away with putting big stadium tours on sale before people have heard as much as a note of their new albums twice in a row now, before Tranquility Base... and The Car. They probably know they won't be able to pull the same trick  again on the casual fans who just want to belt out their old favourites, so maybe this was scooping up as much $$$ as possible this go round, and next time it'll be arenas?

That all said, people still had a good time (me included), and in my case I've shelled out another 70 notes to see it again today, so what do I know?

The stadium show I saw (Bristol) was great! And the same show at Glastonbury  -with just a couple of surprises/older songs early (opened with Mardy Bum and play A View From Afternoon a few in) - probably solves a lot of the more casual crowds issues and gets them on board.

I am not in the camp that they should just play their older stuff but it was a mistake to me how they played arguably the least accessible set of the UK tour at Glastonbury. I see they threw Ritz to Rubble in early doors the next day and played A Certain Romance in Sheffield - if they had thrown a couple of bones to the crowd I think it could have gone down a lot better.

Maybe his illness did play a part?
