  1. Ricky Wilson is one of the great frontmen. Proper stagecraft. Makes the effort.
  2. ...and the PC/projector malfunctioning at least once every year.
  3. Thanks, thanks and thanks (out of upvotes). Didn't know that subtitles and close captioning were different things until today. Big Tim Roth fan here. Loved Lie To Me. The first series of Tin Star was also very good. Haven't got around to watching S2.
  4. Hard Fi's debut (Stars Of CCTV) is up there with the great débuts imo (I may have mentioned this previously). A great album full of songs about growing up in a shit town.
  5. A question regarding Squid Game: Started watching the first episode with subtitles, but stuff got in the way. Have since read that there are two different subtitle files. One that just replicates the English dub, and another that is more accurate to the original Korean dialogue. They are numbered 11 and 12 in the Eee Zed Television version I have. Which one should I be using?
  6. I think @dotdash79wins that one. The lucky eels are good.
  7. At The Chippy was and still is a masterpiece. Not just the song but the choreography. (Searched YouTube and couldn't find it. Sorry).
  8. Possibly one of the greatest vocals in rock history? That bloke is one confident cocky motivated soab. A top notch Rock Star, Pilot, and Fencer (read Sword Fighter) by all accounts. ANd The Jam are in turquoise?
  9. How very dare you. Was lucky enough to catch Tim Minchin in a tiny venue just after his Edinburgh Perrier win (or whatever it was called that year) and found myself almost questioning my sexuality after about three numbers. Just stunned at the originality and obvious talent. I was thinking only a couple of nights ago how much I used to like the first Bad News album. And I think The Darkness are a bloody fun band. Can't wait to see them in December.
  10. I thought Steve Coogan was similarly brilliant in Stephen.
  11. Is that a real castle in the top pic? If so which one?

    How do you feel?

Had a couple of knowledgeable people 'round to help us negotiate part of the minefield that is the above today. Turns out they reckon that we (read my mum) can get £60 per week Attendance Allowance. Which could be backdated to today. If approved (though the assessor seems to think that these things generally get routinely initially rejected and have to be appealed). Which she could have been claiming since at least December! Which she was told. Won't listen to anyone my mum. Just a drop in the ocean financially that though. Will pay for a couple of days of carers a week. Bloody stubborn old people. I really hope I don't end up/(have inherited being) that daft when/if I get that old.
  13. Has anyone done a Sony Playstation joke/reference yet? Were any The Levellers tunes ever in any video game soundtracks?
  14. I liked this article : Why we’re living in the golden age of music documentaries : https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/music-documentaries-2021-nirvana-b1921214.html

    First Gig Back

Not a "gig" gig. Cabaret I guess, but my first time back to a proper paid show in a proper venue. Derren Brown in Canterbury tonight.
  17. Literally binged the lot. As per this this threads title. Based on a German show apparently. Whoever said The Germans have no sense of humour?
  18. The Darkness are one of THE great live bands. Can't wait to see them in December. To quote Jools Holland after their Later début, "I love a band that make an effort".

Appreciated. But. Trust me, I'm pretty sure I have checked out all of the avenues. Current regulations disregard the value of the house only when it comes to "in home" care. Should anyone have to go into a home then the value of said house comes into the equation. I am 53 and three quarters years old. I could also stay if I were disabled. Hmm. Now which limb do I need least?

    How do you feel?

Thank you both for your replies, Always good to know I'm not alone feeling stuck in a rut. I am certainly myself guilty of not planning well for my future. Some people tell me they think I'm pretty intelligent, but if that was the case I would surely be retired by now. Without any of these worries. Crap with money me. And I was right not to celebrate too early. The £86k isn't going to be backdated (you can't start to count spending on care until April 2023, by which time my mum's costs will already have been close to £40k). And it's only the care aspect of costs that is going to be counted. Not food or accommodation or etc.. So typical lying tory obfuscation as usual then. So fuck it. I'd sooner borrow £86k and gift it to my mum than lose the house I think. (I may need to think this through). I certainly find it weird that "The Labour Party voted against a tax rise to fund the NHS and Social Care". I get why I think (It's not going to work really/there are better ways to approach the issue/hits working people/etc), but as a sentence that is somewhat surreal.

    How do you feel?

I'd been meaning to follow up the above all year. But didn't. Long story short since then is, we now have carers coming in three times a day (Get up. Lunch. Bedtime) Pains me to say this (because it's the tories and I know a lot of people are cross about it for various other reasons also) but I think that the announcement today re social care costs may have alleviated my fears of losing (having to sell) the house somewhat. Though I'm not celebrating just yet. There's bound to be some loophole/clause that hasn't been mentioned. It's the tories ffs and I just don't trust them to do the right thing for average joes and joannas one bit. To try to stay on thread a bit: All of the above stress could have been avoided if my mother was not such a stupid narcissistic paranoid kidult who was advised by numerous people what the future held if she didn't listen to sage advice. I've been pretty despondent for months from these thoughts weighing on my mind. I mentioned to my friend last weekend (who I hadn't seen for almost a year) that I feel like I'm just treading water. Week in week out it's the same routine. Work sleep work sleep work sleep days off but, shopping cleaning domestic bollocks, a little bit but not enough me time, never enough time to do anything properly it feels, rinse and repeat. Friend told me that I sounded like I was actually slowly sinking. Plus these last two weeks have seen mine and my colleagues workload quadruple (at least) due to my employer and their advisor's lack of foresight regarding a certain scheme of theirs. "A great success", they loudly and proudly proclaim. Not from our point of view it ain't mate. Nor from the people who get unnecessarily delayed because of said lack of foresight. Or the people in the queue behind them (have you guessed what it is yet?). I needed to get all that out. Cathartic again. First world problems again. Wine may have been consumed during the creation of this post. That's me time that is coming out of cleaning time tomorrow. May see you in this thread again in another eight months.

    ABBA

Now that's a very interesting list. Some of the names on there.

    ABBA

Queens' Hammer To Fall always gives me a DYMK earworm. I would love to see hologramatic ABBA play Glastonbury but am worried that it would set a precedent. Quite. Was thinking this when the first stage hologram things were touted. Please don't let this be the future of festivals. ______ I've had a Winner Takes It All earworm all day. And. Didn't ABBA have one of the coolest but simplest band logos of all time? Just reverse that first B and it's a mirror. For a two boys two girls band. Timeless piece of genius. And surely influenced AC/DC namewise?.
