Great stuff. Got a couple of friends want to come too so that 15% discount is nice :)

Yes, I would love to have something like this for BKS, too. So far they just kept a couple of thousand Euro from us for 2021 (including 2x 14p bungalows). ;)

  2. Primavera Sound Barcelona just announced their 2021 lineup so far and I guess we can expect these bands from the BKS 2020 line-up also at BKS 2021:

    - The Strokes
    - The National
    - Diiv
    - DJ Shadow
    - Fontaines D.C.
    - Metronomy
    - Black Lips
    - OM
    - Black Midi
    - Black Country, New Road

Also interersting: Massive Attack aren't confirmed, but Gorillaz and Tame Impala!

Where online does it say that Primavera secured those 3 bands for the fall??

Sorry, you're right: there is no information about the lineup and I should have double checked.

When the move of the Primavera festivals were announced the lineup was still up and I anticipated they at least had the headliner confirmed for the new date, but I haven't checked again before posting. My fault.

It's gonna be cancelled after tonight. Government will announce they will prolong the ban on events up to 1 September.

It's already the same with Germany and Belgium.

Primavera already secured The National, The Strokes and Massive Attack for fall 2020. Even if BKS would be allowed to take place chances are very low that US-acts would still be available to come to Europe in June.

Especially number 3) is a nice find! However, it is the same weekend as Lowlands Festival. Would surprise me if both festivals will take place in the same weekend (if festivals in August will go ahead in the first place...)

Ah, I missed that. It would be the battle of friendly fire versus Mojo.  But I guess IF there were to be festivals from the second half of August on, people would be in such a state of withdrawal from concerts that both festivals could still sell very well.

A standard "we're still going ahead as planned, monitoring the situation closely, etc" message on instagram. They also confirmed none of the bands have cancelled so far.

I can't imagine any May or June festival taking place.

Most international bands depend on other festival shows or club shows around single festival bookings to cover their costs. Even if a festival in a particular country could (legally) take place, many countries will lift their limitations at different times. Because of that a lot of bands won't get enough dependable bookings to be able to do certain festival shows and will cancel. BKS is a festival with at least 50% of their acts being paid low salaries (if any at all). If a lot of the undercard and a certain amount of the medium sized acts (which at BKS are not that big either) do cancel, BKS won't be able to take place, even if the headliners would still perform.

Another factor is that Europe-wide ticket sales for all kinds of concerts and festivals are close to zero right now. If the ticket sales won't cover (at least most of) the cost of the festivals these will be canceled due to financial insecurities. Most promoters have absolutely no positive cashflow right now, because all shows and tours are suspended for the next weeks (and probably months) and lot's of people ask for ticket-refund instead of waiting for replacement show in the fall.

A last factor I want to mention is that all measures and limitations right now are set in place to stretch the time the virus spreads to keep the total amount of infected people at all times as low as possible. The infection time will not be over in a couple of weeks. It will take months. Worst case most measures will be in place till there is a vaccine what could easily take till 2021...

Do you folks reckon that the strokes could play at bks?

It seems like The Strokes are the most discussed possible headliner. It's definitely possible, as they are confirmed for Primaverasound a week after BKS.

I'm a bit surprised no one is talking about Nick Cave as headliner anymore. He definitely is around and would fit pretty well.

My guess is that the third headliner will be a bit smaller than the first two confirmed headliner.

  8. Primaverasound announced it's full lineup last night. Primavera takes place one week before BKS and has 100% of all bands confirmed that are already confirmed for BKS.

Most Primavera bands would fit BKS, but some are already confirmed for Down The Rabbit Hole (and won't play both festivals, like Beck, Disclosure, Tyler, The Creator, Kacey Musgraves, Bicep and Jehnny Beth), will most probably be in the USA when BKS takes place (Lana Del Rey, Brittany Howard, King Gizzard, Young Thug) or are exclusive (Pavement).

I keep my fingers crossed for: Arthur Verocai, Bauhaus, Bikini Kill, Boy Harsher, Dinosaur Jr., Einstürzende Neubauten, Floating Points, Iggy Pop, Jawbox, Jesus & Mary Chain, Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Les Savy Fav, DJ Shadow, Shellac, Squarepusher, Squid, Tropical Fuck Storm, and Yo La Tengo.

  9. Bonnaroo just had it's lineup announcement. As Bonnaroo is at the same weekend in the USA as BKS, acts being confirmed for Bonnaroo most probably won't play at BSK.

At least these acts would have fit BKS as well:

Tame Impala, Lana Del Rey, Vampire Weekend, Lizzo, The 1975, Run The Jewels, Glass Animals, Flume, Jason Isbell, King Gizzard, Leon Bridges, Ezra Collective, Larkin Poe, The Regrettes, Primus, Dashboard Confessional, Wallows, Tones And I, Altin Gün, Dermot Kennedy, Denzel Curry, Slowthai, Nilüfer Yanya, Pinegrove, Saint Jhn, Orville Peck, Elderbrook.

This 99% eliminates one of the most predicted headliner for BKS: Lana Del Rey.

Ooo very tempted by this, is anyone going/ever been solo? What's the vibe like?

The vibe is very relaxed. Lot's of friendly people. Easy to meet new people. The average age is a bit higher than on many other festivals (it's more around 30 than 20) and people seem to appreciate good (not always cheap) food, a nice location and decent toilets. ;) It's not really a festival about headliner, but about discovering your new favorite band you never heard about before, the people and the atmosphere. The tickets themselves usually don't sell out fast (if at all), but most bungalows and glamping options do.

  11. On the 7th and 8th of November there is the FifityFiftyLab 2019 festival in Brussels. The ides of the new showcase-festival is that 20 festivals together curate the program of FiftyFiftyLab, to present newcomers they like.

Best Kept Secret curate the show of Bristol based Scalping, making them look like a sure shot for next year's BKS.

  12. Based on previous announcements we are getting closer to the first official announcement for the 2020 edition. No bands are confirmed yet, but there are the usual speculations.

Most probable headliner right now seem to be Lana Del Rey and Nick Cave. Both do have sold out Amsterdam shows prior to the festival and are around at the time of the next BKS.

Nick Cave: 11.06. Rome, 12.06. no show yet, 13.06. no show yet, 14.06. Paris

Lana Del Ray: 07.06. We Love Green, Paris, 09.06. Verona, Italy - no confirmed dates afterwards

While Nick Cave fits music-wise pretty well, Lana Del Ray is (or was) booked by Friendly Fire who do BKS.

Another possible headliner could be the Pixies. They are also booked by Friendly Fire, have headlined BKS before and seem to play festivals next year (08.-11-07. Mad Cool, Madrid) with a new record out.

Possible co-headliners could be Caribou, returning and booked by Friendly Fire, who seem to be playing a lot next year and Robyn (05.06. at Northside, Denmark).

Not many festivals have confirmed bands so far, but other bands being around on festivals within two weeks before and after BKS are: Franc Moody, Mew, Weezer, Motorpsycho, Rhys Lewis, Twin Atlantic, The 1975, The Hives, Giant Rooks, Aurora, Sofi Tukker, Wolf Alice, Zara Larsson, Post Malone.

Bands from Friendly Fires rooster, which might suit could be: Black Pumas, Blanco White, Charlie Cunningham, Dermot Kennedy, Fontaines DC, Freya Ridings, Genghar, Gerry Cinnamon, Hatari, Marika Hackman, Orville Peck, Rachel Sermanni, Ride, Scalping, Snapped Ankles, The Slow Readers Club and The Teskey Brothers.

  13. We had a great time at the festival. Perfect weather and overall the right amount of visitors (especially on Sunday and Friday).

    My afterthoughts:

my biggest loss is the end of the former Stage Three. Me and my friends were very unpleased when BKS changed the semi-open air stage to the ugly tent, a couple of years ago, but at least there was live music. People seemed to have appreciate the new Stage Three, but it's like another stage four and on BKS I want to see live music and don't need more than one open air stage dedicated to DJs playing mainly electronic music.

Most of the lineup of the former Stage Three and Stage Five are now combined at the new Stage Five. While the accoustics of the new tent is better than that of the old tent, the new tent seems to be even smaller - resulting pretty often in people not getting in, even in the early afternoon (Whispering Sons, for example). Also, especially on Saturday night, the toilet smell was really terrible.

Stage Seven was nice, but a bit claustrophobic. I wish some of the acts playing there would have played a bigger stage, because either you couldn't get in or were cramped into the too small room (for example, at the show of the totally amazing Shht).

The overall booking was amazing as always (great mix of brand new bands and legacy acts), but the scheduling was really strange and for me personally sometimes hard to follow. I love bands like Phosphorence, Guided by Voices and Spiritualized, but all of them would have worked much better in an indoor location. I have no idea why they were placed on Stage One - most of the time very empty in front of stage and as I already wrote, I personally think those band would have worked much better on Stage Two.

Obviously the most controversial and much discussed booking was Carly Rae Jepsen. Thinking the gig was totally boring and redundant might be subjective, but it was totally empty (I'd say perhaps 1.500 people in front of the stage and some more scathered around the whole area - which is way to less for the co-headline spot and a such hyped YouTube and Spotify act.

A last thing that made me really sad was that there were no cups anymore with the full lineup of this year. We collected these cups since the first edition and I think they were a really great reminder of the festival.

Quite happy with the timetable, my only big regret is Jambinai clashing with Bon Iver, but one can't have everything.

As it will be my first time, can someone tell me how difficult will be moving from a stage to another? Is there any stage that needs more than 10 minutes to be reached from another one?

    Thank you so much.

They announced some changes to the setting of the stages. I'm pretty sure stage one and two will stay on the same spots and probably four, five and The Casbah as well. Stage three will probably be closer to the lake and no one know yet where stage seven will be - except that it will be floating on the water. In previous years the biggest distance was between stage two and stage five. I's say it can take up to 10 minutes to get there (depending on how determined you are to get there fast ;) ). Stage one and two are pretty close to each other (a couple of minutes). Stage three was between stage one and stage five. To get a good spot it's usually enough to be there 10 minutes before the show starts.

    Last year's map:

Haha, you won't survive that Saturday, better have an easy Sunday!

I know myself, I pick 6-7 acts a day, and 3-4 I'll really put some effort in. Can't take in much more, as can my festival buddy, so best to adapt to that to have a great festival all the way through. And indeed, see what the day brings me for the rest of the time.

Yes, I definitely won't make it all. But it tells me how strong the Friday and Saturday lineup is for me. :)

  16. Friday: Shht -> John Grant -> Blue Lab Beats -> Primal Scream -> Stereolab -> Psychedelic Porn Crumpets -> Spiritualized -> Priests -> Charlotte Gainsbourg -> Jambinai -> Crack Cloud -> Shame -> BCUC -> Ditz

Saturday: The Nude Party -> Helena Deland -> Sports Team -> Wallows -> Yves Tumor -> Mildlife -> Phosphorescent -> Fat White Family -> Niels Broos -> Guided By Voices -> Feng Suave -> Death Grips -> Mac DeMarco -> Ex Hex -> Ron Gallo -> Kraftwerk -> Sophie -> Viagra Boys -> Life -> Toro Y Moi

Sunday: Julia Holter -> Juke Ross -> Romperayo -> Whispering Sons -> Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks -> Caroline Rose -> Liz Phair -> Georgia Anne Muldrow -> Kurt Vile & The Violators -> The Raconteurs

Definitely too many acts on Friday and Saturday and in the end I'll go with the flow anyway. ;)
