Because what I can see of them people spent lots of time outside in beer gardens during the summer ... now people have become complacent and looking at many pubs covid secure is utter bollocks without any checkins to follow things up ... hopefully table service only will help ...

Not my experience at all. Pretty much without exception, everywhere I've been has taken it seriously. Also if you close pubs, people don't stop socialising. You just move it from pubs to homes.

I struggle to see why there's such a widespread belief that closing pubs is the answer.

What were today’s numbers ? So the answer has to be to shut the bars completely but support the industry ... just like it should be for the entertainment industry too ... as at the moment these are not viable ...

Pubs and restaurants opened in the summer and there was no increase in cases. Why is the assumption now that pubs are the main problem?

If all these anti mask idiots started wearing masks we could suppress this virus even more and stop a second spike

    What is this based on?

Mask wearing is a relatively minor tool in minimising the spread of the virus and the vast majority of people are complying with the government advice/legislation by wearing a mask where mandatory. A lot are also wearing a mask where its not mandatory.

I can't believe that a small minority refusing to wear a mask in the supermarket is going to have any significant impact on virus transmission so its really not worth getting worked up about.

It absolutely is, it's a basic freedom to be able to trade one on one with another person, once cash is gone (and this a big step towards getting rid) all transactions will be recorded and authorised by the banks/government, at the moment there is nothing to stop you buying something from a mate and giving him cash, in the future that won't be possible and you will likely be taxed on(or forbidden if they don't like it) from trade of this type. There is massive ignorance on this thread about the loss of personal freedoms in all this, in the comments above there are proposals for identifying people that the nazis used, this from a anti fascist board.

Completely agree. Getting rid of cash is one more element of personal control lost.

based on nothing whatsoever I reckon companies will start to make them a requirement in offices .... almost like some kind of duty of care ... imagine offices getting outbreaks once it had been decided they weren't necessary ..... It will become more of a standard practice and they will also be attempting to suppress winter flu by using them .... and im also not keen on the actual wearing but guess we are fortunate we dont have to wear the full PPE like those in the ICU s .... as well as the other bits they deal with

My company have made them mandatory if you leave your desk but no need to wear them when you're at your desk. Assume that will be standard practice.

Is that pic from today? Not only are not remotely distanced, he literally has his arm around her. They are just taking the piss now.

I can't tell if you're being serious but no quite clearly that's not from today.

  7. Viruses have always been around and we've continued to have festivals up until this year. The difference with this virus is the fatality rate. However if drugs are developed to reduce the fatality rate for this virus such that its similar to the likes of flu then there's no reason not to hold festivals, even if we don't have a vaccine.

  8. The View at lunchtime on the pyramid stage 2007. Was a weird slot for them and I don’t remember it being great.

Actually 2007 was my first year and I don’t remember many great sets at all. Probably a mixture of the weather being a constant downer and not moving around the stages as much due to the mudbath. Super Furry Animals is the only set I remember loving.

I think he’s trying to show Sweden vs other scandi countries. Not sure why South Korea is on there

Alternatively its an attempt to show that Swedens strategy is failing by deliberately cherry picking countries with low death rates to compare them against

  10. Realise I'm going against the grain here but I'd be happy for the festival to ban camp fires. Last thing id want if I'm crawling into my tent in the early hours is a roaring fire right outside and spending the night lying awake terrified my tent is going to go up in flames.

There's no shortage of areas around the site where you can congregate to have a chat with your mates without impacting those camped nearby.

John Digweed played a second set in the spaceport on Friday, announced it on facebook. I saw it yesterday :( Kicking myself.

We went. Was max 50 people in there. As a huge fan of his it was incredible to see him in such an intimate setting.

Even had his kids onstage for a while.

Let's Eat Grandma were absolutely magnificent in their 45 minutes Williams Green slot and rapturously received, the crowd sounded quite big but I couldn't tell for sure as I was right at the front. Not sure how well their show would do on a much bigger stage and space, but it definitely deserves one.

Completely agree - they were incredible especially given that it was looking like it might be cancelled. The crowd wasn’t especially big but everyone in there was completely into it and they looked blown away by the reception they got. Really hope they’re back next year.

Twisted Wheel is such a strange one as a TBA, them playing a slot/stage way bigger than they actually are doesn't make much sense. Just booking them normally would be a middle of the day William's Green type slot surely?

Would set a new bar for underwhelmed crowds if it was true. They’re both way too small and way too shit to be booked as a special guest.

Sounds like they can't afford to do both or ticket sales have not been as expected.

This was my first thought as well. Call me cynical but sounds like it’s a cover story for poor ticket sales. Hard to believe they’d be cancelling if it was sold out.

  15. Very nice gesture and impeccably observed as far as I could see.

However was it just me or did it seem that nobody on the stage had started the clock to time it?! Seemed to go on forever and Hooky and Rowetta were starting to look around for someone to tell them it was over.

Felt like it was in danger of turning into a tragically comic moment until someone (in the crowd I think) started applauding.

  16. In terms of surprises:

confidence man at Williams green - went to see them based on a 30 second YouTube clip, they were the most fun set of the weekend. Not a huge crowd but everyone was dancing from start to finish.

frank carter - never seen a frank carter live performance before. Unreal. Sure the majority were there to see the killers but don't think anyone can have failed to leave a fan.

the xx - expected to find it a bit dull but they were awesome

plenty others that were great (royal blood, hacienda, Sasha and digweed, the killers, slaves) but I was already a huge fan of all those

Would anyone be interested in one solitary spare ticket for Black Madonna, Shanti Celeste & Ellen Allien at XOYO this friday?

For the bargain price of £6

    I'm still going :D

I'm going as well! Can't wait - haven't been clubbing in ages because I was training for the marathon. Ready to cut loose now.

Saw Ellen allien years ago in Berlin and she was ace.
