As I was reliably told they played after Beady Eye one year - I was convinced they opened - I was however mistaken, on early but not openers

Not difficult to forget a Beady Eye set in fairness

The dripping out of the line up every few days with yet another poster of smaller stages is dull and unnecessary, just bring it out all in one go.

Couldn't agree more with this. It's like drip feeding your Christmas presents over the whole of November and December.

It looks like FS is going to be the Saturday Night Electronic Headliner on Park. Had some of my best moments at that slot with Jamie XX, Joe Goddard, Four Tet last year! Not sure I quite see this being the same! But then again Silver Hayes is so stacked I could easily be elsewhere!

The Temple doesn't seem a great fit for him. Thought it was only drum n bass?

  4. Anybody know if the Bike to Glasto luggage service will run this year? Official website suggests that it will but the bike to Glasto site hasn't been updated since last year.

With less than 2 months to go, I'd have thought they'd be starting to take bookings by now. Don't fancy cycling with 5 nights worth of stuff!

Not sure the increased demand was entirely down to the acts. Remember they had a bit of trouble selling out in 2008, entirely due to Jay-Z headlining, he doesn't fit in with the increasing middle of the road audience. Although in contrast The Rolling Stones/Adele/"The Ginger Busker" entirely fit with that demographic.

BBC wall to wall coverage along with the establishment promoting it as a Wimbledon/Last Night of the Proms Great British Tradition which must not be missed has done more to increase demand.

Remember there are huge numbers that sit around the Pyramid all day, having to "suffer" the likes of Snoop/Run the Jewels/De La Soul just so they can say they've been there.

I'd say struggling to sell out 2008 had a lot more to do with the horrific weather the year before than with Jay-Z headlining.

Where is the progressive house and breaks in all this???? Severely lacking unless there are some DJs I'm not familar with. Pretty Girl and Ben Bohmer aside on the house side I suppose.

Progressive house is generally under represented in the dedicated electronic music areas (silver hayes and SE corner). Glade area has generally been my refuge for some good house.

The documentary told that part of the story in such a sensationalised way too.  I'm not familiar with the oeuvre of Limp Bizkit, but presumably that song about smashing shit up is from one of their records?  I'm still guessing, but that record was probably out when they were booked?  It was portrayed almost as if Fred took in the situation and composed an aggressive song on the spot to make things worse.  It was probably on that setlist that most bands come up with before they go on.

You book Limp Bizkit, you get Limp Bizkit, duh. They were doing their show.

Also made Bush out to be heroes by being so dull that the crowd calmed down.

That wasn't a conscious decision by the band, its just the nature of a Bush gig.

Also, what’s going on with all the flares? Anytime I went to one of the major stages there were multiple flares going off.

There was a guy who lit one near me before Wet Leg - they hadn’t even been walked on stage yet. Clearly didn’t know that it’s basically holding an intense fire in your hand, and tried to drop it on the floor when he complained, “it’s burning me!”. Everyone started booing him and he realised he’d made a massive mistake, but still, people around were getting burnt. It’s no laughing matter.

During idles at the other stage it looked like someone set off an actual firework in the crowd. Did I imagine this?

    Agree with that.

When I started doing Reading festival in 1999 it was just watch the headliners then back to the campsite for chaos/sitting at randoms campfire/meeting people/generally being silly.

Doesn't happen at all now because Silent Discos and late bars are still open so people opt for that now.

This is a change for the better. Last thing I want when I get back to my tent is being kept awake all night by wrecked people who have nowhere else to go.

Chvrches at Brixton Academy tonight - absolutely brilliant. Best I've seen them, and the new songs sound so good live. Joined on stage by Robert Smith for the encore for How Not to Drown, and Just Like Heaven - a real treat and a great gig. Would love to see them on the farm.

They were incredible last night. I've always been a huge fan but their live show has gone up a notch.

Assume if they were playing the festival this year, they'd have been on the first poster though.

Yeah but its the very start of winter - we saw what happened last November and December, and while there's modelling saying it'll go down by Christmas, it's pretty much the same modelling that said 100k cases / 7k hospitalisations so I'm not believing that any more than the more outlandish models in the other direction.

If we get through to Feb/March without it getting bad enough to have restrictions we can confidently say we're all good, but for now it's not even started

It indicates that there's a ceiling at which case numbers will level off and then drop though as immunity builds.

I'm as optimistic as I've been that this winter is going to be nowhere near as bad as feared.

It doesn't necessarily keep everyone safe, though. As the original tweet said, the MVT have made clear that the reason they object to the proposals is the evidence that this would have any substantial impact on the spread (off the top of my head: clubs, gigs and bars have been opened in England since July, without any huge spike in case numbers), which they've provided to the governments, and which both seem to have roundly ignored.

Agree with every word of this. It's a policy brought in on political grounds not medical grounds. No evidence at all that it makes going to a gig any safer.

It’s a bit of a slippery slope if we were to have restrictions for controlling flu in the future, where does it all end? How risk adverse should we be?

Exactly this. We haven't considered putting restrictions in place for flu previously, no matter how bad the flu season has been. Provided we're not at risk of exceeding hospital bed capacity, there's no reason to start now.

    Hope so...

The problem is, even double vaccination is not effective enough against Covid, especially AZ which is reported to be appx 60% effective, more or less.

Let’s see what will happen (or not, hopefully) next few weeks.

I'm curious as to what the answer would be if you're suggesting it's not safe for a club full of vaccinated people to dance?

If this isn't safe then presumably it'll never be safe and so mass events, Glastonbury included, should cease to exist?
