  1. Arrived Saturday due to my school leavers ball the night before. Camped right next to the ribbon tower like a ne'er-do-well. Headed to the Pyramid to find Seasick Steve and the cider bus. Realised after one sip of cider I actually did have a serious hang over from the night before. Got down the 'front' with newly purchased flag and pole (I know, I know, I was young, shhh) for Amy Winehouse. In the gap after her between someone was hitting me on the head with a dildo. And then this guy proved all the doubters wrong with an additional 2-fingers up to Noel and that epic video beforehand: I fell in love with the festival that weekend. Never went down the front again and the flag stayed at the tent from then on too.
  2. I't going to be my tenth time I know no one will bat an eyelid and I can more often than not be seen sporting a camelbak that is full of water (most of the time... it had cider for headliners and late night!) so more than familiar. Just wondered if there were any hidden gems or tricks worth knowing. I'm looking forward to exploring the Greenfield's and that area for interesting stuff - there has to be some good stuff up there!

    Newbie poll

This year is Glasto 10 for me but given my tenure on these boards and was lurking for about a year or so before signing up I've gone with '10 or more'. It's close enough right! Here's to the next 10 fests and 15 years! actually sod that, it would mean missing some again - 12 fests!!!
  4. I had my last drink the same day as OP I think. Well done! Hope it's still going well and you navigated Christmas and New Year OK. My last drink was a shot of fireball at a wedding with an 82 year old - what a fine way to bow out. I've had to cut it due to health reasons (gastro rather than any of the usual reasons one stops) and while I hope to be able to enjoy it again someday I've accepted the sober life and actually rather enjoy it. I also have an intolerance to caffeine (including chocolate) which narrows my choices even further at a bar and makes life an interesting endurance race. (Many arguments about jagerbombs presumptively bought for me, and my uni days were fuelled by Haribo) I've never drunk heavily at Glastonbury (we don't talk about Wednesday last year ok? - we all make mistakes... I counted about 3 major ones and countless minor ones) but always enjoy a cider at semi regular intervals as part of the occasion - never to get drunk. But nonetheless this is Glasto number 10 for me and more than likely the first one without a drink from the bus or the BAR. Does anyone have any info on alcohol (and caffeine/chocolate) free options at the bars or am I to resign myself to stocking up at Co-op or bothering the ice cream vans for Fanta? If I weren't on the bus this year I'd load up with AF cans. ...tbf I guess I could still do that but would rather not carry the weight and warm beer isn't the one is it.
  5. The recent announcements have brought me back to the forum (though I keep an eye out more intermittently in the 'off-season'). I have to say that sure: there's the weather thread, the next announcement thread, the headliners thread and the what have you done today thread; they are are all great and all but THIS thread, this thread right here is THE thread of efests. Are we sure it isn't a cult? For the record I was well indoctrinated last year and I've never slept so well between these and the airbed frames we got.
  6. Another 2010 Faithless vote from me. Getting to see them before they broke up, on that stage, after the weather that weekend with the sunset over the Tor in the background with a field full of people raving to timeless classics before Stevie Wonder. Man that was amazing. I also thought Foals should have headlined instead of Muse in 2016. I thought that before they played and then they proved it. I was with some folks who had never heard them before but I'd insisted they were the big recommendation of the weekend wen they asked. They kept making comments in absolute awe of the show. It was a belter!
  7. It seems the WH poster is listed Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Friday, Saturday Sunday repeat to finish. All confirmations and rumours have so far lined up with this theory and if you separate it out the order of acts looks very sensible. It would put The Hu on around legend time on Sunday based on last years clashfinder (which is annoying).
  8. Thanks all for your help and advice - we will keep our eyes peeled 🙂
  9. I've never tried for campervans before but am trying to pick up for my Dad. It now says sold out but is there a second chance or other way of getting a pitch? Hoping for some veteran tips please! Thanks!
  10. 🤮 and people were outraged at the sharp incline on Glasto this year!? Proportionately it's nothing compared to the % increases at the other end of the scale (Academy shows etc.). The mad thing is people are willing to pay these prices. I guess it's OK (for lack of a better word) if you only do one or maybe two a year but for us who are more at the one a month end of things it makes it really difficult. So thankful to have got Glasto tickets for 22 and 23. Makes such a difference on the booking of everything to see everyone I want to - they all tend to appear there.
  11. I may have missed a nuance - maybe it was the general resale. It absolutely happened though as there was all the stress of contacting them and getting it fixed. I've heard the story from both my friend and her brother directly. I have similar question marks if I'm honest but mistakes are made. The clincher for getting them reinstated was the fact it was a general sale and not local (so it didn't matter). Details whatever they may be, there is a check made on certain sales that can result in cancellation if it doesn't tally. TBH I think it's a good thing. We have the registration process for us lot to make sure touts don't get a sniff and it makes sense they should be doing things on their side to ensure registrations are legitimate otherwise you'd end up with hundreds of people registered to the address of an 'entrepreneurial' resident of Shepton Mallet or somewhere. It is something I've needed to be aware of. Not that I've tried in a local sale but if I grabbed a day ticket I'd have to use my Mum's card to pay as still registered at her house in Somerset.
  12. My friend's brother had his tickets cancelled for a recent festival (I think this year's) because he was registered at their family home in Butleigh (tier 2) but his payment card was registered where he actually lives in London. He managed to get them back with a bit of faff as he purchased in the general sale (not the local sale) but it shows they do corroborate card details with the postcodes on the registrations. So anyone claiming to be from areas outside the catchment, don't assume they will keep their tickets.
  13. "In a UK festival exclusive, Robbie Williams will make his Isle of Wight Festival debut and bring proceedings on the Main Stage to a close on Sunday night." Direct from the website. Correct. But we know it doesn't mean much.
  14. Doing the lords / geeks work (saved me a job - thanks!). And let's not forget they were a last minute bump up for Kylie having to pull out. I'll put here what I removed from my last post. They do tend to be a slightly different vibe overall - edgier, newer, indie, electronic. Where Pyramid tend to be properly mass market / broader appeal. Obviously this is a gross blanket statement and not universal but it would take a remarkable act to make that move across and up - especially if you consider the status they need to be to headline Other in the first place. Let's be honest, most festivals would give a limb to have Glasto Other headliners at the top of their main stage. We are very lucky and splitting hairs when it comes to it.
  15. That is an excellent question... I can't think of any off the top of my head. Going to get the book out and have a look.
  16. They were always in the running the year they did it. Did they ever headline Other? My understanding was they held out for the top spot after a couple of Saturday sub slots. (again could be typing out my arse)
  17. They've headlined Reading twice. Reading isn't exactly known for getting smaller / lesser headliners. They absolutely can headline. Whether our boots are in that field or another one is another matter entirely! I do agree with the idea that booking both AM and 1975 is unlikely though. (I'm actually OK with them, if there was nothing else I fancied it would be a fun evening)
  18. It's a fair view. From a business perspective though bands get to a point where it would only make sense to headline not only for the money (they could earn more elsewhere) but mainly the prestige. Landing that top spot at Glastonbury not only equates to enormous uplifts in record sales but also publicity and credibility. There is also something to be said for the approach. Fo example I somewhat think Foals may have screwed themselves over from dreams of the top spot by accepting Other headline / Pyramid sub positions recently (I see them as positions of equal standing) and so may have barred themselves from making that last jump to the top spot. Of course this is just an idea, could be wrong.
  19. I completely agree! My point is simply that a switch to a ballot system would increase that percentage significantly as both the die hards who spend their lives on a forum dedicated to the festival like us stand exactly the same chance of getting a ticket as someone who signed up on a whim and forgot. There are an awful lot more of them than there are of us! Personally I prefer a system whereby the barriers to entry are a little higher than a simple internet form. The current system works more in our favour than any realistic alternative.
  20. True to an extent actually. I didn't say all of them but compared to a ballot, there can be no set and forget without someone somewhere being prepared and up at 9am on a Sunday and suffer for a while to nab them. A ballot would fundamentally change the nature of the crowd and not in a good way. 'cuts down the number of casuals', better?
  21. In all seriousness I agree that this way while occasionally frustrating is the least worst, most fair method. You've got to really want it which cuts out the casuals and if we look objectively at the process and infrastructure it is infinitely better than even a few years ago. Is it perfect? No. Is it good enough? In spite of raw feelings today, yea, it is actually. (I got lucky on Thursday and got most of the rest of my Glasto family in this morning so I'm not bitter but I do remember the pain of 2017 and 2019 festivals very well and those that missed out have my fullest sympathy!)
  22. Right, that's it, we go old school. Everyone must queue outside Worthy Farm's front door in mid January to get a ticket. One ticket per purchase, one purchase per person. No tents. No chairs. Let's see who REALLY wants it! Imagine it, we could relive the magic of 'The Queue' every year! 😉
  23. First time going by coach! Got in straight away without any of the tricks those of us round here use for a slight leg up. Easiest purchase since 2008! Now I have 7 months to convince myself that coaches aren't complete shite.
  24. Was way back in the thick of crowd, could barely see as I'm relatively short but nonetheless it was very special indeed. A surprise highlight of the day.
  25. Did it on Friday (not by choice). It's not worth it. It's nice if you have it anyway but it isn't worth an extra £50 by any stretch. It consists a bunch of benches, portacabin loos, a bar and a couple of eateries. The view is off to the left so you are restricted in your viewing options / sound positioning. I wouldn't ever pay to do it again.
