I think the words ‘long’ and ‘shot’ were invented just for wish lists like this haha

They headlined 4th in 2022, last tour or not, they’re not suddenly jumping up to headline 2nd or play 3rd on main.

Yeah, they were third down the bill at Bloodstock this year so definitely not big enough

Reckon we’ll get Sum 41 or maybe ADTR on the Blink day? Mates aren’t sold yet and need a bit more to commit to a day ticket

Sum 41 have their Download appearance as their final UK festival show.

Obviously that means little these days but that’s what’s been advertised

And instantly f**ked it by putting Bad Omens, one of the few bands whose position we know, in the wrong spot.

Haha. Funnily enough I looked last night to see if someone had done a clashfinder and didn’t find this.

Good job i didn’t, as you say, it’s got the basics wrong haha

Seen QOTSA a bunch over the years (right back to the early tours with Lanegan). Their set at Pinkpop in June was one of the best I've ever seen from them. I'm not sure why so many Downloaders are unhappy.

From the Kyuss days through to Lanegan of Screaming Trees and his connection to the Grunge scene (and close friendship and writing with Cobain), also Josh role as a producer and legendary musicians partaking like Troy, Grohl et al. And simply crafting a legendary sound and tunes / albums which stand the test of time - a solid argument exists that they are a major part of this genres heritage.

To me, the festival has to box off a headline set at Donington from them (as Copping has suggested himself previously… and he knows what he’s doing right?). The timing is perfect and likely won’t fall as fortuitously again. The band line up is musically the best it’s been in recent years with Troy, Mikey, Theodore and co, arguably the only time it’s peaked since the Lanegan, Castillo, Oliveri days. The new album has been well received critically and in sales. Big selling tours and a closing set at Glasto (up against Elton John) getting really positive reviews. Had to be done.

It’ll be exciting to see. The Leeds and Reading headline set was superb in 2014 (so, they have proven they can do it). I've always admired the festivals willingness to take a punt on people (MCR in 07, Feeder, Biffy Clyro etc) and such bands chuck the kitchen sink at it.

People in the Download scene cry out for new headliners and a pipeline of bands stepping up, then they moan that things are changing or it’s not their taste haha. They can’t have it both ways. QOTSA will smash it.

Dave Grohl himself has recently assessed QOTSA live… https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vRBDGJCgJaU

To be fair, I think the main complaints have been about Fall out Boy rather than QOTSA

Considering Download’s track record, I can’t see Ghost getting the headliner gig until at least the album after next despite them being the obvious next bump up.

To be fair they have had BMTH headline for the first time this year and QOTSA and Fall Out Boy for next

They were giving this out after fall out boy in Cardiff today. Downloads new sponsor. They told me FOB are headlining download.

Who told you FoB are headlining Download? The staff hired to hand out the free cans?

To put it a bit more blunt for you guys to understand. A string or stadium or stadium levels gigs rules them out of download!

I’m not sure we should be considering info that comes from an article describing Green Day as ‘a reunited 90s band’

Im pretty sure that they were as big in the 2000s as the 90s and, more importantly, they haven’t split up to be able to reunite. Haha.

That Skol lager was 2% too 😂

Yeah, there were loads of unopened cans left all over the place haha.

If I remember rightly, they said it was one beer a day. We all thought we’d get a token for the arena bar but they just gave us three warm Skols on the way in on the Friday haha.

Every year I look at other European hard rock and metal festivals and curse how unlucky we are with Download. Not an ounce of imagination goes into booking it and it sounds like next year will be no different. People were praising it this year but aside from the BMTH bump it looked like business at usual to me. Very few curveballs and still padding out the upper card with the same shite from 20 years ago (Disturbed, Evanescence, Alter Bridge etc)

I’m not sure which festivals you were looking  at but the ones I saw just looked like a typical Download line up in a slightly different order.

Some did show some imagination lower down the bill and some had bands that are big over there but not here (e.g. like Powermetal) but certainly the top half of most European festivals looked very much like a Download line up.

Don’t be so patronising. I am more aware than anyone of when I’m having a nice time.

Takes me an hour to get there and I queued for 10 mins max to get parked up.

I didn’t think the organisation was shocking in any way regarding campsites, entertainment and the arena itself. I was prepared for a busier than normal weekend and that’s exactly what I got. I was not hugely inconvenienced at any time.

Yeah, I had one of the best Downloads ever and haven been going to festivals for 35 years.

Download, Glastonbury, Reading, Arctangent, 2000 Trees, Bulldog Bash to name a few.

This years Download was one of the best.

    No, it doesn't.

Flo wasn't (near) like for like for Foo Fighters.

Gorillaz weren't near like for like for U2.

Basement Jaxx weren't near like for like for Kylie.

The only one that can really be pointed to is Pulp replacing what remained of The Stone Roses, and that wasn't nailed on to be a success going in (several of the songs they played that night that went down so well and we'd now regard as classics were being played live for the very first time).

No one will beat Reading/Leeds swapping Rage against the Machine for 1975 as the worst ‘like for like’ haha

Considering they got reunited for the 2020 US election and how 2024 will most likely have a UK and US election I feel like it would be a perfect fit for RATM to return.

I hate election time but if it brings RATM back then I’ll take it.
