  1. Yeah was 2015. It was great, but I remember it being a bit of a trek up in that mud!
  2. Maybe I was underestimating his appeal, just looked at the venues of his current tour. Anyway, if he was to turn up at the farm, whatever stage, I’d be there!
  3. Just pure guess work, but someone mentioned Gary Numan was touring, thought he’d be a good fit for Avalon. Also Cat Empire have Sunday free. But they headlined in 2019 so maybe too soon, but would be good to see them back in the tent!
  4. Okay, so not a musical artist, but self confirmation by Pam Ayres on her website. She was in the Cabaret tent a few years back (and was wonderful). Website shows stage time so perhaps a poetry & words announcement isn't far off.
  5. He would make a cracking Avalon headliner!
  6. I’d take the current BBC forecast. Only a few light showers and plenty of sun. Looks fine to me.
  7. Just checking through my photos and I have a screenshot of the BBC forecast from the 17th Jun last year. Felt a bit warmer at times but was pretty accurate.
  8. Excellent stuff, thanks for sharing. The video is just over 75 mins so I’m assuming this is pretty much what we’ll be getting next Sunday. We just need a sunny afternoon (fingers crossed).
  9. Yeah totally agree. I was lucky enough to win tickets on Radio 1 back in 1999. It was literally the week before. All you needed to do was be the first person to call in and Steve Lamacq read my name out. Tickets in the post 2 days later. None of this begging live on air. After the hell of 97 and 98 I wasn’t gonna bother going back again. Luckily 99 was wall to wall sunshine and a top weekend. Reignited my love for the place and still loving it!
  10. Radio 2: when they play Elton John call 0800288291. Answer a qualifying question and tell them why you should win the tickets. Lines open for 30 mins. The producers pick the best two they go head to head on air to answer questions. Winner gets the tickets. Best of luck anyone who is going for it!
  11. Unless it's Wembley arena he's hired out. Still seems very OTT but looking at the venue listings, an event due to be held at the arena on Saturday 24th has been postponed...
  12. Yeah it rained a bit on Saturday morning. Would have been around 6am as just started early shift. Didn't last long.
  13. Claudia Winkleman just said Dolly Parton coming on her show in a couple of weeks. Not sure if that’s in person, but if she’s in the country I wouldn’t rule out her joining Elton. Sure she wouldn’t take much persuading following the reception she got last time and with a new album to promote...
  14. We should organise a dedicated 97 meet. Could talk about it for hours. Great (and awful) memories. Mostly great!
  15. When you tell her the good news just make sure you remind her it’s Fathers Day on Sunday! 🙂
  16. It’s the same every year. Love it. It’s bad enough already but my productively is going to be at an all time low come Friday!
  17. That’s amazing, she’s going to be so happy!
  18. I think the worse think about 98 was sitting outside my tent in the blazing sunshine when I first got there thinking to myself ‘what a difference from last year.’ Then it started raining. Heavily. I cant remember if we expected it? The internet wasn't really a thing then, or mobiles.
  19. Was similarly underprepared for 97 but got through it, and was great. 98 was a different league. Lasted until Saturday afternoon and the only time I’ve left early (and didn’t really want to but all my stuff was ruined). I don’t remember 16 being anyway near as bad. I’d do 16 weather again (not my preference) but don’t think I could do 98 again.
  20. How about Dylan in 98? I missed it as had left the site by then. Hoped to see him on tv but he wouldn’t let them show the set. Did anyone catch him?
  21. I’d be up for that! It’ll be number 12 for me but my first time volunteering. Can’t wait!
  22. Any chance they'll be back any time soon d'you think? They were superb last time and the new stuff is great.
  23. 98 was challenging. My mate, who I went with, never returned. Mainly due to the weather, which nearly finished it for me. Was going to give 99 a miss but was lucky enough to win tickets on Radio 1 the week before. Glad I did as it was a great weekend (the weather helped) and it made me forget the worse bits of 98.
  24. Out tents were totally ruined, they didn't make them as good as they do now! We lasted to Saturday afternoon and really didn't want to leave but had no choice. It was total carnage. Remember the wind too. No way, it just seems too ridiculous to be true. Guessing the place was shut down more or less straight away? Excellent thanks for sharing! I'll look at these later. Am jealous you went in 95! That was my first experience, glued to the TV watching it. Have been obsessed with the place ever since.
  25. Yes, same here. I remember watching the coverage of 95 back when it was on Channel 4. I was a bit too young to go then but went with my bother in 97. Wasn't prepared for the weather at all. Expected the wall to wall sunshine they got in 95. Instead there was nowhere to sit and it took ages to get anywhere. I remember the dance tent incident but have never been sure if it actually happened or it was an urban myth. Anyway, it was all fine for Daft Punk on Sunday night! It was hard work but have nothing but fond memories of it. Remember when the other stage sunk on Friday and they couldn't let any bands on it until the evening?
