    Meanwhile ... why ain't you taking me up on the London Weighting Allowance argument ? That's also financial assistance given by Government to a specific section within the population of a territorially defined part of the UK. Why is that not racist* ?

    Whataboutery is move the convo to an unrelated subject.

    What I was merely pointing was that, given you seem convinced that institutional racism is taking place, surely you have a civic duty to make the relevant authorities aware.

    You haven't of course because this is a just fer laffs discussion thread, and every click helps. Not that I'm knocking it as such (otherwise I wouldn't be here), but I do find it helpful to remember in order to maintain a sense of perspective about the throwaway comments here.

    Cos what it really is is the (UK govt's) projected extra costs vs benefits of an independent Scotland - worse off by £1,400 under independence, or taken the other way £1,400 better off sticking with the Union.

    (the guessing at those numbers isn't likely to be any better than Alex's guesses).

    that's sod all to do with what I asked.

    I pointed out that if Scotland was being penalised just on the basis that it was Scotland, then trhe din from the north would be deafening.

    But when the Scottish Govt does that to the rest of UK, there's nothing racist about it. Hmmmm, OK. :lol:

    Then please do explain how it's not racist* to discriminate against people on the basis of where they're from.

    (* using the UK legal definition of ethnicity or nationality).

    You *have* reported this to the Police and/or Crown Prosecution Service and/or your MP and/or Scottish Executive ? Haven't you ?

    The SG's policy on student fees is racist. What of that is passing you by? :blink:

    One more time. Its a policy based on residency, not ethnicity. Using your logic, the London weighting allowance is racist.

    Other than that its the predictable, deliberate misrepresentation. The difference between civic nationalism and ethnic nationalism is not one lost on you, yet it suits the argument to continually pretend otherwise. 4 out of 10

    Y'know that article does contain this little gem
    "Salmond's case was weakened further because he would need the UK government's agreement to use article 48 under the first minister's timetable for negotiating accession before Scotland became independent. There was no prospect of the UK doing so if Scotland planned to discriminate against UK students on fees or fight to share UK opt-outs, the committee said."
    So the UK Govt are saying they might support the use of the Article 48 fast track method, but might want some concessions eg ditch uni fees for EWNI students.
    The pre-negotiation negotiating continues.

    Interesting news from Westminster, where the SNP are being told that if it wishes to keep operating its English-xenophobic/racist uni fees policy (as it has stated it plans to), it can wave bye-bye to EU membership forever.

    The cost of yes has just significantly increased.

    But who would be crazy enough to send their kid to a Scotch 'seat of higher learning' ??!!

    Corp tax - the biggest factor in the transfer of the wealth to the richest in society, and the *ONLY* firm financial promise of indy-Scotland.

    Banksters - Alex loves them, and egged them on (Scottish bankers, working in Scotland [don't give me that city of London crap that normally comes from nats]) to cause the bankruptcy of Scotland's biggest bank.

    (and ridiculously, nowadays the nats like to claim they'd regulate the banks better than London :lol:).

    Refusing to put up taxes to benefit the poorest at the expense of the richest.

    You know, the normal stuff of parties that are economically right-wing or neoliberal, but that indy-Scottish blindness &/or prejudice cannot spot.
