Hehehe, f**k yeah. No argument from me on that.

As you know, I think the new album is fantastic. The thing with her and Lily Allen in '22 was hands down the best 5 minutes of that entire festival. Pure unadulterated joy.

As i say. not my call at all, but I think the argument that 'loads of people like it so it must be right' is a bit iffy, really. Stuff which is really really sh*t is massively popular. I don't think it should be a barometer of if something has value/is worthwhile or not.

New Jockstrap thing out today. Can't wait to get stuck into that, the debut album one of my favourites of the last few years. Such an amazing band.

yeah, fair enough, that's a valid viewpoint and the festival changes, it's no longer about the new. the relevant, the pop and exciting (with a few notable exceptions). Fair enough, Emily's call. Those of us shaking our fists about it are on a hiding to nothing. But it's undoubtedly a vicious circle, everybody goes to the Pyramid, so the rest of the site has no atmosphere, so even more people go to the Pyramid. Which again, is not how I'd go, but I'm not the one running the show, I'm not the one financially dependent on ticket sales.

If it were down to me, I'd take O'Rod over Madonna in a heartbeat. One's the future, the other one firmly the past. But, it doesn't matter a single, solitary f**k what I think, Glastonbury is not (and never has been) some kind of democracy. It's a benign dictatorship. And like @stuiesays, if you're not comfortable with that, or with the direction the festival is taking, it's maybe time to move on. This is completely where I am at the moment, but I don't blame GFL for doing what they're doing (OK, maybe I do a little bit). Personally, I think the huge names and the concentration of everybody at the Pyramid to see a huge name is to the detriment of the festival as a whole, but like I say, lets not pretend what you or I can affect that, or that it's going to change in the foreseeable.

Live to Tell, Justify my Love and Crazy for you are all big hits from from her imperial phase, I'd have said.
  8. Those gigs will stink worse than the authentic recreation of Viking-age effluent at the Jorvik centre.

Dear Lord. Rumours of Pearl Jam make me yearn for those halcyon days of ...er.. yesterday and all the speculation about Pink
  10. I'll lay very very good money that Gunnersbury doesn't sell out 25,000 tickets and there'll be cheap/free tickets on the usual seat filler sites come next August.
  11. Yeah, you are their book of the week or whatever (your bit out on Friday if you're not a patreon) https://www.distantpod.com/listen/episode/ee7783b4/episode-183-part-1-would-you-like-to-join-steffans-show
  12. Yeah, that's not outrageous, and you know they'll put on a top notch light/sound show. 55 Euros for the Berlin tickets, and the venue looks ace. Properly excited about this.
  13. Efests stalwart @Superscallyfeatured on this week's Socially Distant Sports Bar podcast.
  14. Sorted. Underworld. Berlin. March. Dirty, Epic.
  15. We're doing Mitski/Richard Dawson at Usher Hall in the Spring. Decent venue?

    Spare Gig Tickets

Got 2 spare tickets for the sold out 'ALLO DARLIN' comeback show (evening) at Ramsgate Music Hall this Friday, 27th October, if anybody's interested?
  17. Outside of London, some more interesting venues, the Edinburgh one and some of the European dates. Might be a foreign jaunt for us, I reckon.

    2023 New Music

New stuff is a bit better than Yawn, but for me, nothing has really been as good as the West Kirby County Primary album. Guessing he'll be back at EOTR next year.

  21. hahaha, no f**king way.
  22. Someone like Elbow, I had in mind, ticket prices for e.g Glasgow are 50-75 quid. Who's going to that? Is the demographic of Elbow fans in 2023 big enough to fill these stadiums? Who's willing to drop that sort of money on a band that tours every year or so, regular as clockwork. Those are the kind of acts I imagine potentially being squeezed out. I'm not knocking Elbow, just fascinated that there are (presumably) enough fans willing to drop 60+ quid a ticket for an arena show.
  23. Just seen the Nile Rogers Margate date. Need to have a ponder. Last experience at Dreamland was so bad (The Streets), not sure I can face it again.
  24. I get the feeling it's the opposite. People being priced out of big arena gigs, while your local venue offering a band for ten-fifteen quid, no transport costs, cheaper booze. That's a feasible alternative. If anything , I guess it's your 40-60 quid quite big but not that big acts that might feel the squeeze. Who knows?
