  1. In the village the water was where the Big Top stage was supposed to be, so to deal with this we brought the fence in and then had to squeeze the bar and Watering Hole all closer together. The mainstage managed to cover most of the other "pond" which was caused by bad drainage. We covered the area with sand, but that did not help with the smell! Sorry, first complaint I have read of the smell.

Decent lager: don't drink it much myself. Please advise what you consider a decent lager. I thought Becks was OK?

  2. It seemed that a few bands were down on members at the festival - Y Niwl were down to three members, Clock Opera's keyboard player was missing, and Friends were also a man down. Strange. Thought they still delivered decent sets though, particularly Y Niwl and Friends.

Re. the number of stages, were there not four full music stages last year plus the comedy tent and the phrased and confused stage? I make that two more than this year, three if you don't count the watering hole.

Re. bag searches - we also had these at Summer Sundae - not nice having a security guard squeezing your food as you go in to see if something (what exactly?) was in there. Other gripes if the organisers are interested - lack of decent lager on offer, no times provided for the comedy acts, horrible smell around the main stage - easily fixed for next year I would have thought. Poor sound indoors might not be as easily fixed.

Overall, I thought it was decent value for the price of the ticket, and I hope it returns next year.

  3. There's now an ale/cider menu on the website, but will there be any decent draught lagers on offer this year? (i.e. not Fosters/Carling/Stella type stuff). There doesn't seem to be anything veggie-friendly among the real ales unfortunately.

  4. Favourite Act: Shonen Knife and John Cooper Clarke. Honourable mentions to Toots & the Maytals, Warpaint, the Phantom Band

Biggest let down: The overall lineup - I didn't go on Saturday, and while I'd normally aim to see about 10 bands in a day, I wasn't fussed about more than a handful on either day that I went.

Best find (band wise): Factory Floor

Best moment of SS'11: Shonen Knife doing Blitzkrieg Bop

Will it survive to 2012? Lets hope so. Given the great job DiS do every year of putting together a lineup for a day, maybe give them the main stage next year. And Toots should really have been on the main stage. The best of the (once again, oddly laid out) comedy tent was great - maybe some of those acts would have been better on bigger stages. Perhaps the quality was spread too thinly this year - maybe drop a stage next year and make the tickets a bit cheaper. If it clashes with the olympics a big screen should sort that out.

  5. How will they know if your soft drinks are laced with vodka? Or if your 2 litre bottle of shandy pop has something a little stronger in it? Not that I would advocate that sort of thing of course...

Wouldn't be so bad if there was a selection of veggie-friendly beers on sale inside the festival.

  6. Can anyone tell me which stage and at what time John Cooper Clarke will be on? Doesn't say on the SSW website. Apologies if this is already on here somewhere, I haven't been paying attention, but in a fit of drunkenness have just bought a ticket so am now taking a bit more interest.

    Ta.

  7. Yes it is. I have the flyer - more of a leaflet, really - here with me. Some quick highlights:

FRIDAY: Maccabees-Coxon-Bees on main stage, Toots headlining the hall, Shonen Knife head Rising (oddly), Uncle Frank and Raghu Dixit at the top of Musician

SATURDAY: Main stage: Newton Faulkner, Reef, Bellowhead, Kissmet, Beth Jeans Houghton, Showaddywaddy, I Am In Love. Now that's eclecticism. I Am Kloot headline the hall, Pete & the Pirates Rising, Teddy Thompson Musician

SUNDAY: McFly, Example, Cuban Brothers, Young Knives main. DiS you know. Dry The River head Rising, Kitty Daisy & Lewis Musician, John Cooper Clarke in the comedy tent

  8. Still some acts to be announced for the DiS stage on the Sunday, so it should get even better.

At the risk of starting a rumour, both Warpaint and The Vaccines are represented by Coda and The Vaccines appear to have the whole weekend free, while Warpaint have a free day on the Sunday and are around Europe all summer...

  9. Appalling announcements - Reef, McFly, Showaddywaddy - what next - tribute acts? Given that there's now around 40 confirmed and still a load of local/lower running order Musician stage acts to be announced I'm guessing there won't be many more 'name' acts to come other than those to be announced on the DiS stage which is now the festival's only hope it seems. There are a few on the bill I'd like to see but unless there's a day with enough going to merit the 40 odd quid(?) I won't be going this year. Great news if you like McFly and Example, i.e. you're twelve, but not for me thanks.
