  1. Unlucky this year (again). But I'm feeling strangely calm about it! As much as I love the place, there are other equally fantastic festivals to experience. So 2024 will be my first time at Bearded Theory, and third time at End of the Road.

It's definitely getting more difficult to get those golden tickets though. I've been to 14 Glasto's and I've never been unlucky two years on the bounce.

2022 was my last Glastonbury and I had an absolute blast! So if that was my last one for a while then at least I went out with a bang.

Congratulations to those people who bagged tickets, and commmiserations to those that didn't. But honestly, it really shouldn't feel like the end of the world. Try something new instead 😊

Would be amazing, and Geoff was obviously here last year. Is there any reason for speculating that though other than hope? I guess Dummy will be 30 years next year... but they've done like 1 show in 8 years.

Pure hope! But I thought the programme said that EOTR started as an idea sat around a campfire in Glastonbury, and one of those bands playing Glasto back then had been secured for next year. I've since thrown the programme away so could be wrong.

    12z update (puts @briddjmask on)....

    Thursday:

Late pm showers showing up in this run. Given we know they're going to be very localised, have to cross fingers. Pretty warm, 25 degrees or so.

    Friday:

Same as last run, possibly slightly better. Light showers around, good chance of no rainfall during daytime, patches are skirting the site. Clears into evening for headliners. 19/20 degrees, so bit cooler. Dry overnight.

    Saturday:

Light rain nearby but dry for the day and overnight. Cooler again, 17/18 degrees. Yellow Hey Jude warning in place from 11pm - 2am.

    Sunday:

Dry as a bone. 18 degrees or so.

    Monday:

    Post-Glastonbury existential dread.

    That's the 12z!

Out of upvotes but you've made me laugh out loud. Have a great festival everyone 😀

I went with my son in 2014.  He didn't hate it but found it hard work and too busy.  He loved the Park area and would've loved a smaller festival based around that.  So he hasn't returned and prefers smaller festivals

He'd most likely love End of the Road then (if he hasn't been already).

Is this his first apology since the pandemic began?

Apologised yes. But he didn't mis-speak. He clearly just didn't know. The man is a massive plank.

When I returned from furlough, my boss banned all holiday until 1st Oct. So since we got back from NZ at the beginning of Jan (that was a tell timed break in retrospect!) have only bee naway from our flat in London for a week in Dorset and a long weekend with friends in Norfolk. If anyone has any recommendations for any cracking Oct/Nov UK holiday destinations, I'm all ears!

I went to Antigua recently. The weather was ridiculously nice and hot, and aside from having to prove a negative Covid test result, it actually felt like the virus didn't exist. We obviously had to wear a mask on the flights but the flight was about 10% full. I took the risk and had the most relaxing, enjoyable holiday thanks very much.

I struggle staying motivated mentally if I don't have something to look forward to. This was the first year in 21 years that we haven't been to a festival. We also had a well timed holiday to Sri Lanka in March, so for me to go the whole year without a festival or holiday would have sent me over the edge. Now I'm ready to bunker down and see what happens over the next six months.

    Get away if you can!

What the hell is wrong with people?? There's enough to go around if people don't panic about it all! God this really gets up my conk and folk never learn. Don't they remember the picture of the older fella trying to find loo roll on an empty shelf from the last round of panic buying? Nope, everybody out for themselves yet again.

going to type a tweet as i cant link it etc

The briefing showed recent trends in France and Spain and then showed that the UK would have 49k cases per day.

49k per day is a rate of 73.5 in 100k , nearly 3 times the rate in spain and 6 times the rate in France

if you want to compare france and spain, why wouldnt you use their doubling time which is every 3 weeks not every week?

they also didnt present the uk data using the same data format as france and spain.

so so confusing and fear inducing

Also strange that they only used trends from France and Spain who aren't managing at all well with a second wave, and none of the other EU countries who may be faring much better.

My views on this whole thing: As someone who has been strictly following the rule since march, only seeing friends outside, socially distanced or on zoom. I feel a little insulted when people say they are "over Lockdown." You are making the decision that you short term enjoyment and midterm mental health is worth more than letting people die or get long covid. Both things that affect the long term health and mental health of victims and families of those victims of covid.  Obviously there's always risks in life but it's very likely there will be a vaccine early to mid next year.

People were "over lockdown" two weeks into lockdown. At least where I was, it was not long until I saw people hanging around town centre, mingling , not socially distancing, VE day, beaches etc etc. I know supposedly the majority of people stuck in lockdown but still most the people in my town who say they are fed up with lockdown, never fully locked down in the first place. And now those people have the added benefit of a couple months of socially distanced pubs, restaurants, cinemas, meeting friends inside, all stuff im yet to do and Im okay with that because it is enough for mental health just to meet these people outside or on zoom if it came to it.

I understand that everyone is different and have different thresholds, but I thought we would see a little more resilience from the british public, It's ultimately the governments fault for the mixed messages u-turns, promising the virus will be over quickly, if we had a more realistic outlook at the beginning of this maybe the first lockdown people would have taken it more seriouosly (gov and public)

I don't blame the public for the rise in cases this time, but do question that we can't do our part to stop 10 of thousands more lives this winter. If the vaccine is still not here late next year, then we should start living with the virus. But if we take lockdown seriously now, we could be in a better situation by then anyway

Don't forget Dominic Cummings doing what the hell he likes.

  10. I work in the Public Sector and our HR team recently carried out an audit on who is desperate to return to the office, who would be happy to continue working from home and attend the office on occasions, and those who wish to continue WFH full time because of personal circumstances etc. Out of almost 700 employees less than 10 said they want to get back to the office. The company are in no way forcing us back either. They're happy for us to continue WFH for the foreseeable future as there's no way they can have the whole workforce in and stick to social distancing. It's all that dynamic working/hot desking crap anyway which nobody in their right mind would want to do right now!

Never stopped listening to them, one of my favorite acts. Saw them at Sonar this Summer and will be seeing them in Amsterdam later this month. Rick and Karl are still at the very top of their game. The Teatime Dub Encounters EP with Iggy was fun and the new Drift album arrived in the post yesterday. Not had a chance to listen to it yet but the singles from it are great, particularly "Listen To Their No", which is very Underworld.

A John Peel headline slot would be fantastic.

Amsterdam for me too and cannot bloody wait!

Supposedly last year they were doing deals when purchasing 4 coach tickets? Not sure if anyones aware of anything similar this year?

£90 seems a bit steep for a return from Manchester...

I'm going from Manchester and I agree that it's pricey, but it's worth every penny in my eyes. We got coach tickets in the resale for this year's festival and have travelled on the coach previously and it's always been an absolute breeze (hope I'm not jinxing it). No queues, nobody having to drive home after a five day bender, you can have a kip and it also makes you take less crap. It's just so much easier mate.

is anyone feeling  mildly confident ? ... I try to think this way as much as possible .... maybe I'm just a crazy fool

One in a million here but I'm personally feeling hopeful about tomorrow for some reason. I'm as prepared as I can be, and if I don't get a ticket then I can honestly say I've given it my best shot. The nerves have kicked in now but I'll be in the zone come 9am tomorrow.

*Disclaimer - I reserve the right to have a full blown sulk for the rest of my life if I don't get a ticket

You were successful for me though Levitz. Eternally grateful to you too :)

We're both going next year mate. I have a good feeling about this one.

  15. This was my second Kendal Calling but sadly will probably be the last.

I loved last year's festival! Fantastic vibe, great music, lots of other things to see and do. But this year I did see a huge decline in a lot of things, not just the general atmosphere but the support from the festival, on-site facilities and value for money.

Firstly, not once did I see any campsite staff. The toilets in the campsite were atrocious (I understand that's got a lot to do with the people that use them), and the state of the campsite was awful! I thought we were supposed to have festival crew on site but the only ones I saw we're the car park crew, main festival gate and about 100 people at the arena entrance intent on stopping people from sneaking a can or two in. I thought the campsite crew were supposed to be dishing out recycling bin bags etc., but didn't see anyone handing these out or any recycling bags at all. I always take bin bags with me to tidy our camp up but other than that the place was a total shit tip.

The vibe just didn't feel right to me either. Maybe it's my age, the weather (or both), and I can't put my finger on it at all but it wasn't as friendly or chilled as last year.

And value for money is non-existent unfortunately. I appreciate the festival has to make money and I too have probably been spoilt by Glastonbury, but they seem to charge for absolutely everything! Arriving on Thursday, clean toilets (or posh privvy's if you want to be technical), showers, programmes at £10 a pop which were pretty pitiful (just have a free app please), leaving and re-entering the car park etc. The food and drink was expensive (I know there are cheaper food stalls around the site), and the difference between the festival trying to stop people sneaking a few cans of cider in, compared to them trying to help people in the car parks/campsites/on the route to the arena (it was so dangerous given the weather) was unbelievable.

I'm not usually a miserable cow but after last year's KC (I told anyone that would listen what a great little festival it is), I was really sad to see such a massive difference. I truly hope it improves in the future, it really could be a fantastic festival again.

Thanks chaps, as I am at the "why have I spent so much time on this playlist/not doing that again" part of the cycle" that is particularly nice to hear. Hope you found some good stuff through it!

The playlist has been an absolute godsend! Thank you Sir!

I am also travelling by a Seetickets coach. Do we have to print the ticket off, or will presenting it on my phone be enough?

I've spoken to See Tickets and the coach tickets are emailed to people individually and you'll need to print it off and show it to the driver.

Thanks for all your help guys. Much appreciated!
