Probably the best festival you could go to alone. Site is small and friendly. Easy to get around, plenty of space so you won't feel overwhelmed by people, generally a very friendly crowd.

I'm not convinced that those watching the screens will do so in a way that doesn't distract the audience from the music. It can be quite difficult at gigs like this, as you rightly point out, to avoid people talking all over the set anyway. I don't want to be THAT guy but I really believe that the set will be ruined by the football being on the screen at the same time. People will naturally be chatting, cheering/jeering whenever goals are scored or almost scored, chanting about football coming home over the top of the music. I fully appreciate that a lot of people want to watch the football but I can't see why it should be done in a way that could potentially spoil things for people who would prefer to enjoy the bands. It's not a popular opinion but actually the priority ought to be ensuring that people enjoy the event they actually paid for. I hope they can sort out the football for people as well but not at the expense of the music. I think the sense of entitlement from some people on the social media feeds is a bit much actually.

Unfortunately, so are most people on social media. People genuinely believe that they can show the match on the main stage screens whilst Slowdive and Editors play and that won't ruin the music for people who actually want to watch those bands. It would be lovely if they could come up with a solution for people to watch the World Cup match but the priority really has to be the advertised event that we've all bought tickets for.

That’s not exactly fair on people who would like to watch Slowdive without 60,000 people shouting over the top of the music about the football match.

But if they DO show the football, then everyone will be turning up when doors open so it'll just be the same situation anyway. Either 70k people turn up at 1.30pm or 50% don't turn up until 6pm. My experience with Hyde Park tells me they won't be able to deal with that many people on site so much earlier than normal.

    BBC's The Biggest Weekend 2018

Main rumour is that Kylie is the headliner which seems likely given that her tour starts that month and she's on Radio 2 on Friday when the tickets go on sale.

    All Points East Festival 2018

I went to 4 of these (LCD, The XX, Bjork, The National) and had a really good time. The weather was on our side throughout which helps. I think overall they did a really good job - especially considering it was a London-based, non-camping festival in its first year. In the opening weekend, the sound on all the stages really was excellent - especially in the West Arena. Lighting and visuals really good as well. Also a generally lovely, music-loving crowd. Busy enough to generate an atmosphere but quiet enough to get a good spot and have room to dance without it ever being pushy. It was good to see them make improvements as it went on as well. The urinals were not signposted properly and so were practically empty throughout the 1st weekend causing large portaloo queues. They noticed this and rectified it for the second weekend which sorted out that problem. Unfortunately, the sound was not so great for The National's day. The North Stage in particular had clearly been turned down presumably due to complaints from residents after the first weekend. There were a lot more casual attendees who just wanted to talk through the sets at The National which was a shame. The War on Drugs was possibly the worst crowd I have ever experienced at a festival. I could barely work out what song was playing because everyone's conversations were so much louder than the music. I did politely ask a few people if they could be quiet only to be told thing like "we are at a festival, not a library". The run of music on the Friday was exceptional for me: Confidence Man - Superorganism - Young Fathers - Glass Animals - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - LCD Soundsystem is about as fun as it gets! Confidence Man should open up every festival! That double header of LCD/YYY was magnificent. The XX were good on the Saturday. Lorde was exceptional. Bjork was a really magical experience. It absolutely went off for Isobel and Human Behaviour so I do hope that one day she'll do a "Greatest Hits" type festival set as it would be something but I knew exactly what I was getting from the Utopia show and I thought it was beautifully put together. I was lucky to be stood in a spot where everyone was very into it.

But they've sort of promoted these as if the days are based around the headliners. I'm hoping it'll be like BST where nothing clashes with the final headliner. It's 40k capacity, they're unlikely to sell out and it would seem daft to lose a large percentage of the crowd to another stage. I might just be clutching at straws as I'd be quite pissed at all of the clashes you've suggested.

Dice were initially doing no booking fees but that's changed now (presumably since they realised it's not a sustainable business model) and so price-wise there's now very little difference when using them.

Looks like 3 days in London for me and then back again for The National the next week. What a bloody lineup!

Two standing tickets sorted for Brum. Surprised that the golden circle sold out so quickly at those prices as well. Bit disappointing to see that he's got one of those.

    Tour Announcements & Upcoming Gigs

Saw them for the first time in December and thought they were excellent. The dates are part of their 'Greatest Hits' tour so it's (mostly) all killer, no filler and so worth it in my view.
