Yeah we weirdly never get any posts of here of "I slept in, logged in at 9.30 and didn't get tickets, a ballot would be better" - y'know, the actual people who would do better out of a ballot!

Even those people can just pay people to try for them. Which is the issue I think we're going to see in the coming years, in that people will just use bot farms (or even cheap labour farms in China) to get their tickets. At which point all the large groups will start crying foul and how it's unfair someone has an army of 200 people trying for them, which at the same time having a group of 200 people trying for each other.

(This literally happened with the main sale last year)

I suspect that's what might ultimately lead to a change in system.

But the 200 people are trying for 200 tickets.  It's not as though 200 people are trying for 1 person.  But I realise that could happen.

New location for the SE Tea Tent - between the Convoy Cabaret and the Woodland entrance and they will be opening on Weds afternoon with live music in the eve, and then a full programme from the Thursday through to the Sunday.

Probably better location for catching passing trade but I like where it has been for the last few years - it felt more intimate somehow because people searched it out.

Time has f**king flown. Only went for coach because I got through luckily didn’t want to take my chances 🤣

Yeah once January is over (and that lasts about 6 months I swear!), the year flies by!

  4. Strummerville on Thursday night for me (yeah it is music strictly, but so much more).  A nice spot on the sofa, speaking to random people, watch the lighting of the fire.  And boom - three hours have passed!

It’s an excellent line-up. Acoustic is good too, between those and West Holts I’ve got more than enough without caring for much on the Pyramid, Other, Woodside or even the Park.

Yes I feel much the same.  Though am interested to see what Strummerville and Leftfield have to offer. Oh and Rimski's Yard which I loved last year. But I am already feeling I have enough to keep me happy.

Lovely stuff still not too bad! Hopefully early so I can sleep 🤣❤️

No it's a pleasant enough journey to be honest!  Got butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it!  I opted for general ticket and National Express this time so I know I'm on a 1030 coach - nice and civilised but still get there to pitch the tent and enjoy Wednesday afternoon.   It definitely feels like it's getting close now!

There's something perversely fair about the Glastonbury ticket drama in my opinion. Those who really want a ticket will generally hang around longer to try and get one. While those who are half-arsed just "trying" will drop out after half an hour or so. I don't know, I'm sure it will change one day, but I personally don't have any complaints.

Yeah and also do their research so they don't think they can buy 4 tickets in the coach resale (I've seen a lot of this on FB tonight).

What's everyones experiences travelling from Birmingham via coach?

Says its 2.5hrs away, is that right?

Bit more than that usually and usually a stop at Gloucester Services to hand out tickets too.

    I got tickets! Hurray!

However panic has now set in. We've had to get Thursday coach tickets for somewhere a 2 hour drive away, but I didn't realise you couldn't select a time when you booked. The small print says the bus could be any time and we won't find out until 30 days before the festival (too late to cancel). The problem being we only have babysitting for our toddler from Thursday - so if the coach leaves at like 7am, that'd mean we'd have to drop him off around 4am... which might not be possible...

    Someone reassure me!

Could your babysitter sleep over at yours Wednesday/Thursday so they and your toddler can just stay in bed when you leave if you have an early coach?

frank had a feel good schtick of 'the world has problems but lets all get drunk and forget about it' that was cool for a few months then got old. to his credit he as tried to reinvent himself some degree. beans on toast not so much but hey he still makes a living from it. good luck to him

I'm old fashioned then and proud of it.  I find him very entertaining.

  11. I'm listening to my Avalon playlist and Frank came on.  Immediately put a smile on my face and chair dancing while working on a boring report for work.  He's not someone I listen to much but when I do, he immediately cheers me up.  And really enjoyed his set at Bearded Theory far more than I even expected.  Looking forward to him at Strummerville on Thursday night as in 2019!

They did. They have a residency at deva fest “sailors rest”. About 5 shows a day. They are great.

The Mrs spoke to them and told them

we saw them at Glasto (after seeeing them the year before at deva fest too). Told her to get a selfie- she obliged!

if you haven’t seen them you should! Think sea shanty’s (duh) and lots of Irish songs.

Bloody love them, such a feel good set.  Everyone should try to see them if they can. I defy anyone to watch them and not have a good time.  I suspect they will be popping up all over the place.

Her live show is very energetic and she engages with her fans really well. Which songs did you listen to? I’d recommend Raw Thoughts, Want Me, Colours of You and Ride or Die to get a feel for her various styles.

Couldnk grab a link to your Avalon playlist?

That's the sort of detail that can make or break whether it's worth seeing someone.  You can't get a feel for it just listening to them on Spotify so it's always good to hear about audience engagement.  Thanks.

My playlist is here - nothing fancy, just the top 5 songs of each artist.  Might edit the Baby Queen ones if they're not the ones you mention (I haven' checked yet).

  14. I hadn't heard of Baby Queen until today either. But I've had a quick listen and certainly don't dislike her and may like her more with more listens. Interesting to hear that Kaboom has seen her many times and she was excellent each time so may well try to see her.

In fact of the playlist I've put together for Avalon, there's nothing I dislike at all so far.  As I said, a very solid line up.

Can’t find any set lists for her. Does she do much All Saints stuff or any of the songs she’s written for others?

No idea - just thought she might be worth seeing, based on nothing at all really!

do we think all these are on the main stage or will some be in the avalon cafe? (also a quality venue imho))

All in the main tent.  I don't think the cafe is there now?  But even if it is they'd have a separate lineup poster (though some from the main tent used to also appear in the cafe)

sorry didnt mean with them , just an unannounced slot

I'm sure if they wanted to play, room would be made for them!  I think with Scott saying they're playing early Friday, they've got the Hobo slot - which I'm happy with!  Great way to "start" the festival.

unannounced special guest slot for Hobos ? clutches at straws

I don't think it would be with the Donnicans - not at this stage anyway or Scott wouldn't have said what he did.  Though I'm sure if the Hobos wanted to make an appearance at anytime at Avalon, they would be welcomed.  Maybe they're just not able to commit?

  19. Scott Doonican has said they are playing Friday early.  I asked him if that meant the Hobo slot but he didn't know - he wasn't even aware the Hobos weren't playing until the poster came out.

    This is stacked for me:

    The Bar Steward

    BC Camplight

    Billie Marten

    Cat Empire

    Flyte

    Frank Turner

    Go Team

    Kate Nash

    Magic Numbers

    New Model Army

    Skindred and

Toyah and Robert are all acts I'd see.

Maybe we should just put our tents inside the Avalon tent?

  21. Another solid line up.  Lots that I wouldn't mind seeing but I don't think there's anything unmissable, which is just the way I like it - I'm happy to see The Feeling, Frank Turner, Haircut 100, Lucy Spraggan, Lulu, Shaznay Lewis, Cat Empire,  and also Barstewards, BC Camplight, Cut Capers, New Model Army but most of those later ones are at Bearded so will probably see them there.  So actually, I know that if I'm stuck for anything else, I can just wander over to Avalon and will probably catch something I like!

If you haven't see Old Time Sailors, do try to - they are so much fun!

NMA - i used to follow those lads all round Europe...  be great to see them back on the farm.

i'm pretty sure the last time they played was also on the Avalon stage, at least i dont recall seeing them since then?

Yeah the only reason I didn't mention them is that they're at Bearded in May and I'm planning on seeing them then.
