Elton John was the most popular headliner the festival has ever had, Glastonbury is more popular and more of a FOMO thing than ever due to social media etc, and to people not terminally online and/or music snobs like a lot of us on here Coldplay and Dua are two massive headliners (Coldplay especially given Glastonbury is the only festival they ever do these days and the association they have with it). Really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that most people who managed to bag a golden ticket aren’t keen to hand it back over this year. Glastonbury’s reputation is bigger than any potentially weaker lineup.

All true for this year, but weaker line-ups for a few years in a row could certainly see it become less of a hot ticket.

I don't think anyone should take it for granted forever - and we know the farm themselves don't.

    Plus there's the weather curve-ball.

That seems odd.  I didn't see or feel a noticeable increase from 2013 to 2014 and beyond, but 2022 was obviously a lot busier crowds-wise than previous years.  A jump of 7,000 wouldn't account for that surely?

Anecdotally, 2022 seems to have been quite bad for unauthorised entry.

  3. It would probably do well enough in Las Vegas, but there wouldn't be enough demand for it anywhere outside the US.

No way when Emily said last year she had got 2 female headliners, no way one of those was SZA!!!

She didn't say that. She said they had one locked and one they were hopeful about, presumably Dua Lipa and Madonna respectively

It all goes back to definition of legend.

To me legend would mean someone/ band who have had a long and influential  but not necessarily hugely successful in sales terms career.

To others it means an hour of songs they know but wouldnt necessarily want to pay to see.

Maybe its time to just let it die a,natural death rather than keep extending the meaning to make something fit as theyre avaialble.

Shania twain could still be playing but does it really need to be labelled legend.

The definition of "legend" has nothing to do with it.  The name comes from places like this - it was called the Teatime Slot by the festival until 3 or 4 years back.

    Yep.

Despite the best efforts of the Mel's to manifest it, my best guess is that they've only succeeded in annoying the festival and making it less likely.

Emily is usually very diplomatic when she's asked about acts - for her to outright dismiss one like that presumably means that we can take her statement as a flat "no". At least for the foreseeable.

Given there's not exactly an inexhaustible supply of legend slot contenders there's zero chance of Emily turning them down if and when they do get sufficiently organised to make it happen.
