The main arena was a lot busier than normal, queues longer for beers & loos.

it looks to me like they’ve upped capacity significantly without adding to the infrastructure

We thought exactly the same. The main stage seemed heaving every day from mid afternoon and the toilet queues were terrible at times

Massively enjoyed Skindred, Johnny Marr, Jess Silk, Beans On Toast and Samantics. Rest of the music we saw was OK but felt like seen most of it to death over the years.

Beer prices were very reasonable...cheaper than our work local.

Crowd were generally lovely...saw a few more p*ssed up idiots and toilet queue jumpers than normal though.

They definitely need to do something to stop the kids climbing that tree to the rear of the main stage...there were what looked like 6 and 7 year olds climbing right to the top.

Overall had a great weekend but not sure we will be in a rush to get back (shame as we currently drive up from Brum which is a good few hours and looking to move to Sidmouth which is just down the road!). Dunno why...just felt slightly different this year.

  2. Loathe as I am to moan about the toilets at a festival...less than 25 'cubicle' ones by the main stage (plus two small blocks of urinals) at a festival with a 17.5k capacity is really poor...if the babby needs the loo we get 15 minutes notice if we are lucky.

That and the 1.5 hour wait stuck in traffic to get in aside, great first night.

Just makes it very hard to sell coming again to my other half.

I wonder if they might show the game? I know it won’t be everyone’s taste but it’s a momentous occasion! Have packed an actual wireless in case they don’t!

Yeah...we are thinking about going down that route. If there put it on a big screen sure it would be popular.

Clash finder is a spread sheet so you could always swear at it if you need to be in two places at once.......... thankfully I cannot help with dickheads cos there are, to the best of my knowledge, none at BD.

    Yeah...honestly don't think I've seen a single d*ckhead at BD.

Forecast now looking like just the Friday will be wet...would be happy with that

I don't remember 2021 being particularly wet, not in comparison to most other years

    Edit: yes

I vaguely remember watching people slipping and sliding all over the place coming through the entrance by the main stage when James were on and wondering why they hadn't put straw down (apparently they are not allowed to as part of the agreement of using the site)

Last year was, I think, the first ever totally dry one.

    It definately rained in 2021

Typical! We didn't go last year as had tickets to sommat else. From memory 2021 was quite wet, but 2019 when Skunk Anansie played I don't think the rain stopped all weekend. Remember watching Stranglers and my pint was filling up quicker than I could drink it.

I just assume BD will be a washout and any sporadic moments when it isn't is a bonus.

  7. Would love to do the arena camping but the thought of carting all our sh*t back to the car on Monday morning puts me right off...particularly if its been raining (and lets be honest, it will definitely have been raining)

Squeeze def played a few years back, the seemed 'bemused' by the great reception they got, and by no means where they going through the motions.

Booze is always the one no-one wants changing. Went to 'red rooster' just after covid lockdown, and they had a wristband to purchase so u could take your own booze in to main stage, 1st time they had tried it. I bought em but the next year was back to byo. Latitude also search your bags to get in to main arena, and for me, that puts a downer on the atmos, and having to think of getting gear onto site secretly when paying nigh on £300 is......🙄

Yeah Latitude is a piss take. I wouldnt mind so much but when we went there was only one or two proper ales available from specific bars that constantly sold out. If you are going to stop people taking their own booze at least give them some decent options in the arena. That and the walk from the car to campsite nearly killed me...proper mission.

  9. Saw some great bands at the weekend. 'Bunkerpop' (who were described as 'LCD Soundsystem if they came from Hull', and that is pretty much spot on). Hadnt seen Mik Artistic before either (always seem to miss him), and we both really enjoyed his set.

DEADLETTER though, if you get a chance to see them and you haven't they are so, so good live. Absolutely off the chart. Honestly one of the best gigs I've seen in 30 odd years of gigs and festivals.

Can't remember a better month for music, fantastic Wind Up Birds gig in Shipley, Bearded and then Long Division. Beautiful Days is gonna struggle to top that.

I put them down on the survey... I saw them on their tour earlier this year and was blown away how good they were...  Glen Tillbrook's voice was great and he absolutely throws himself at...

    Good shout!

Was on a works night out and mentioned Squeeze and half of 'em had never heard of them. I need a new job...people are idiots. Their greatest hits is just mad...killer tune after killer tune.

Filled it in a couple of days ago. My head is still firmly implanted up their arses I gushed that much 🤣

I'm another who also mentioned about bringing your own booze as an answer to the question about what may make you not attend. Increased capacity, increased security and police presence and booze... would totally change the demographic and vibe

Can't believe how long I spent filling in that form and forgot the BYOB thing. FFS!

Hopefully they will confirm prior to early birds going on sale.

I know from a conversation I had with somebody who organises two major UK festivals that the amount they make from selling the rights to the bars is absolutely huge. Unfortunately though I find at festivals where you can't take your own in, it leads to a lot less choice, higher prices and people spend more time at the campsites during the day than seeing new bands earlier in the day who really need the support/exposure.

I always take less booze than I will drink, partially because the car is literally bursting at the seams but mainly because I dont want to be drinking cans that having been baking in the sun for 3 days and want a cold pint.

The very last point I made was Bearded is very much not broken, so don't break it trying to fix it. A few more toilets by the main stage, having a designated 'Help point' near the main entrance (so basically after we set up I took our massive trolley down to the entrance with the babby to help people coming in, but you then have to approach randoms asking if they need a hand which is a bit weird, whereas having a point where people struggling can meet people who want to help would be much better), honestly nothing else needs improving. Maybe a worse line up next year so there are fewer clashes??

Long shot but anybody at the last Long Division festival in Wakefield this weekend?? Gutted DEADLETTER, Lovely Eggs and Arab Strap all clash. Gotta go DEADLETTER as one of best live bands around at the minute

  12. Having had time to reflect, can't remember a better weekend at 30 odd years of festivals.

As ever, the crowd made the difference. Lovely chats all round.

Top 5 bands, Benefits, Billy Bragg, Beans on Toast, Deja Vega, Skindred and Oh My God! Its The Church were great fun (thats 6, but sue me).

Definitely getting early birds again. Its weekends like this that make the other 361 days a year bearable.

    Roll on Beautiful Days...

  13. Biggest disappointment was the food...paid £9 for this chickpea and lentil curry from the curry place by the Catton bar...look at it! There wasn't even any bloody potato in it that I could see and was so tasteless if I hadn't been looking there is a good chance I would have eaten the polystyrene tray by accident. Bring back 'Becky's Bhajis' and 'Gandhi's Flipflop'!
