Bearded will have their first line up announcement this month, so probably part of that

This month as in October?? Actually, not sure what else you would have meant by 'this month' so that is probably a bloody stupid question.

  2. Chucking Johnny Marr on my predictions/wish list. Always brilliant and a really good mix of solo/Smiths stuff. He was absolutely fantastic at Beautiful Days this year, despite the unrelenting rain.

Actually, everytime I've seen him at a festival its been lashing it down so scrub that...he is clearly a bad omen (bringing good vibes).

Cos the rumour mill was going bonkers and in life I find it easier just to ask.......... I asked, and they replied.

Think that would be a game changer for most people. And even with the increase taking into account you can still  take your own booze still represents decent value for money. That said, a £30 increase on 10k tickets (conservative, leaves 5k for support staff/artists) is an extra £300k for them so interesting to see if we can see where/how much of that has been spent.

Frank used to be out the picture because it always clashed with his own 3 or 4 day thing in London (Lost Evenings?).

I hope he is back, if solo it would surely have to be one of the bigger stages, he'd pack Woodlands out way before he was due on.

Lottery Winners would go down an absolute storm, I'd expect them to be back on the festival circuit next year after having such a successful season this time round. Sub Pallet or headline Big Top? Or is that overstating their popularity?

Think they headlined Solfest recently so dont think Big Top headliner or 2nd/3rd on Pallet would be out of the question.

Self Esteem is a good shout but not expecting her to be active again that soon. The Sheffield thing coming up this weekend is supposed to be a farewell of sorts to the Prioritise Pleasure era with her going away to work on new stuff for a while. Maybe 2025 though?

Frank Turner I can definitely see happening (and becoming a semi-regular) as well because there's seemingly a very strong working relationship between him and DHP. Though given how recently he played with the band, maybe a Woodland Stage Solo headline set would be on the cards?

I'm going to predict Pixies as one of the headliners. No info whatsoever but just got a feeling it's finally time.

Yeah, Frank Turner did that relatively small Beans On Toast thing recently that was a DHP event so thinking he might already be in the bag.

    Pixies are a great shout.

    Oh, Lottery Winners as well.

  6. Got a feeling we might get Young Fathers. Self Esteem. James. Frank Turner again. I know they played this year but Skindred as a sub headliner? Johnny Marr. Shed 7. OCS. Headliners I think its hard to call. Kaisers might be a shout. With DHP behind it, would The Killers be outside the realms of possibility (answer...yes).

DEADLETTER would be amazing, best live band in the country at the minute (not IMHO, its a fact). Would love Benefits again. Big Special are fantastic and would go down a storm in the Big Top.

    Spot on.

Problem is most of the acts booked for the Main Stage and The Big Top have some connection with or are mates with the Levellers (this is why several acts play every other year). Not sure they have many connections with "up and coming" artists.

I know this because I'm involved in the program design and layout.

To be fair, if anybody was organising a festival why wouldn't you put on bands that you are mates with, are obviously good people and you sell out year after year when other festivals are folding weekly??

We booked through Seetickets 2021, they literally got delivered a day or two before the festival so I was in a mad panic (they are awful unless its etickets). Had a great weekend at the festival but the booking experience put me off booking for 2022 so went elsewhere. Was absolutely fuming when BD announced DEADLETTER and Bib Vylan who I absolutely love live.

Basically I am pissed off DEADLETTER and Bob Vylan weren't on this year!

Sadly that's the point with BD

It's what the majority of the demographic want, old hippies/indies/punks/folkies who haven't moved on

The Little Big Top is just an after thought to keep the kids of the oldies happy.

The problem with BD is that there's a "missing generation" between the youngsters and the oldies.

I think you're right. That being the case as time goes on the core demographic will be less and less inclined to go due to their age (I am 50 myself) and it will inevitably die off. Maybe thats what they intend, will they just call it day when The Levs hang up their boots? Not suggesting for a second they should turn it into Reading or Wireless but a few more up and coming artists might drag a few more youngsters in to make it look less like a Saga holiday camp.

Still had a great weekend mind! And the people were in very large part the main reason for that so ignore me!

agree that it wasn't a vintage year for music (a good one for vibes though)

Skindred were fantastic - saw them at Bearded as well, and this is the second festival running where they've been the best act by miles. Started dreading the worst when Brother Paul from the Waterboys did that horrendous keytar solo, but once they got him on a leash the rest of the set was really good. Suede were very good, and I enjoyed Justin & Dean a lot (but I was always going to).

Suppose the big disappointment is that there was nobody new to me that I was blown away by - the closest would be Nogood Boyo, who were loads of fun.

Yeah, Suede did well considering the dwindling crowd and howling gale!

Had a lovely conversation with a slightly older couple stood next to us for Skindred. They were waiting for Proclaimers (they hadn't heard about the cancellation and seemed very confused when they started covering '500 Miles'). They had never heard of Skindred (I had to repeat 'Skindred' about 5 times when they asked their name). By about halfway through the set the woman in particular was going absolutely batsh*t! Her hubby wanted to get a coffee near the end and was refusing to leave...thats when you know you're watching something a bit special.

Similar here, didn't see anyone I haven't seen before, and they were all average sets. Skindred was great

The levs were a little smashed / ropey but that's not unusual

It feels a bit samey...particularly this year which I guess in a way is part of the appeal. Think next year unless they get likes of Flaming Lips, Pixies etc will probably give it a swerve. For me Bearded has more strength in depth in terms of newer bands, 'unexpected' headliners and old faves so will be the one we buy tickets for before the line up is announced, BD will be a wait and see.

Likely not the festivals fault but there were several food stalls there that were also at 2000 Trees in mid July.

Since 2000Trees prices have gone up and portions have reduced - was this just for BD? I wonder that as at festivals I have never seen quite so many cleanly wiped off price boards with new writing on or, like the toastie stall, stickers put over the other prices.

I know everything out there is costing more but in 5 weeks 20% price rises for less food seemed a little excessive to us.

Thought the food was pricy but overall the quality was really good. The pasta place by the Big Top was lovely (although £12 for a little tub of pasta I'd hope it would be). The yorkshire pudding wrap was incredible...havent seen that for ages.

Wish Cheesy Vinyl would come back though!

  12. Music-wise Skindred were probably the only band my missus, 7 year old and me agreed on. Fantastic set. Johnny Marr, Jess Silk and Samantics were also brilliant. Didn't see anybody I didn't enjoy...but lots of just 'OK' stuff.

Saw 'The Big Lie' in the Rebel Tent, great watch.

Fair play to the organisers for showing the England game.

The main arena was a lot busier than normal, queues longer for beers & loos.

it looks to me like they’ve upped capacity significantly without adding to the infrastructure

We thought exactly the same. The main stage seemed heaving every day from mid afternoon and the toilet queues were terrible at times

Massively enjoyed Skindred, Johnny Marr, Jess Silk, Beans On Toast and Samantics. Rest of the music we saw was OK but felt like seen most of it to death over the years.

Beer prices were very reasonable...cheaper than our work local.

Crowd were generally lovely...saw a few more p*ssed up idiots and toilet queue jumpers than normal though.

They definitely need to do something to stop the kids climbing that tree to the rear of the main stage...there were what looked like 6 and 7 year olds climbing right to the top.

Overall had a great weekend but not sure we will be in a rush to get back (shame as we currently drive up from Brum which is a good few hours and looking to move to Sidmouth which is just down the road!). Dunno why...just felt slightly different this year.

  14. Loathe as I am to moan about the toilets at a festival...less than 25 'cubicle' ones by the main stage (plus two small blocks of urinals) at a festival with a 17.5k capacity is really poor...if the babby needs the loo we get 15 minutes notice if we are lucky.

That and the 1.5 hour wait stuck in traffic to get in aside, great first night.

Just makes it very hard to sell coming again to my other half.

I wonder if they might show the game? I know it won’t be everyone’s taste but it’s a momentous occasion! Have packed an actual wireless in case they don’t!

Yeah...we are thinking about going down that route. If there put it on a big screen sure it would be popular.
