Not bothered about them at all, but the R&L threads on this forum are very funny, loads losing their shit and trying to get refunds just because RATM have pulled out.

I mean really, do people actually go to a festival just because of one act.

In this case yes. Shit loads of people were going for the day because of Rage and as the rest of the acts on the line up that day have very little cross over there’s now nothing at all to appeal to them. Pale Waves are the only other guitar band on the main stage that day. It’s like if Elton John was headlining Download so a load of Reg fans booked day tixs only for him to pull out and then get replaced with Slipknot, those ticket holders have nothing for them now.

They just need to wait for the replacement to be announced and then try to resale their tixs.

  2. If it was Brixton it would have probably sold out but the next commonly used venues which increase in size are Ally Pally or Wembley in London which are double the size so it was always gonna struggle. As it’s a reunion it’s probably for the best it’s not sold out so fans don’t miss out on seeing them.

    Leeds/Reading?

The speculation is they are gonna replace Rage Against The Machine at R&L but a few people in the know are saying The 1975 are going to be announced as the replacement so who knows. But it’s odd the exclusive banner has been removed from Gorillaz whilst the days have kept theirs.

They only charged traders $500 per stall!!! (Can you imagine being able to buy a pitch at glasto for $500!!! Think I'd take my leftover stock being looted at the end for that!!!)

However, the traders were made to buy from a company partially owned by the Woodstock promoter who sold goods at their prices, so the vendors had to buy a $3 water from them to then sell on for $4 to the crowd.

*Nevermind, incident beat me to it.

i know that but also know he has not been round for 3 years and so people fans as myself will want to see again at finsbury or tour dates .also new album out.

I'm not really sure what your reasoning is here, lots of artists take breaks and have new albums but I don't know how you're dotting that to say he can only be 3rd down or a tent headliner. He's came back with a new album which went to number 1 and is playing a lot bigger gigs than before like the 40k Finsbury Park show so that is a sizable difference to the Big Top headliners this year like Happy Mondays and Shaggy.

jamie t is enjoyable but never a headliner.will b a bigtop 2nd third down at best

I think your underestimating how big Jamie T is nowadays. Jamie T is headlining a 45k London show next year whilst the Big Top had Shaggy as headliner this year and plays London venues like Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Idk, this seems worse to be honest. Boomtown have effectively downsized but kept the same ticket price. Highly doubt Boomtown is a gathering of 60k people who don’t care about the lineup. I think they have to be careful.

Don't get me wrong as not having notable headliners does suck but it is ultimately a party festival so the line up doesn't matter as much as say a London festival which is driven by it's big names. I've never gone to Boomtown for it's headliners as there's closer and cheaper fests with bigger headliners, I've always gone for the party and experience.

It's just one year, there would be a few put off but as long as they course correct and get a few name headliners like Wu Tang or whoever and actually announce them all would be forgiven.

Anyone who has been watching the festival scene for a long time knows the signs of an event on the out. They better hope the actual staging/production hasn’t been cut with a meat cleaver either.. because if people come back feeling like they’ve paid a lot of money for something “budget” it will cause a lot of people to hold off on buying tickets.

All I’m saying is we’ve seen this before, and it only goes one way.

People have called DOOMED on other festivals before which managed to bounce back like when it happened to Glasto and R&L. If they can adjust and learn from their mistakes for the next year it's fine, it's when the festival has turned to shit for a few years in a row then we can declare it is dead.

That sort of ultra-purism would work in a music industry where bands aren't completely reliant on playing live to a) continue to exist as artists and b) pay rent.

AEG suck but so do LiveNation, ClearChannel, Ticketmaster, SJM and every fucker involved in nearly all aspects of large and medium sized music events and ticketing. Blaming the artists for having to work within those systems is such a shit, stupid take and only the most privileged ones are able to turn down gigs like this purely out of morals.

Yep, look at Pearl Jam. They tried to take a stand over the likes of Ticketmaster only to be mocked and then lost.

  10. Thing is no one has actually said they want "edgy" music. The only people who have been saying the word edgy are the ones mocking twats like Kid Rock or was used by people asking why do others want "edgy" music which then got reused in the reply back to them.

Can you please spell it out then and tell me what "edge" at a gig is? Is it the feeling that there *might* be sexual assaults and violence, but without it actually happening? It keeps getting bandied around in this thread and people keep saying "it doesn't mean that" but no-one has yet explained what it does mean, and I for one am baffled.

It's a live act with lots of energy and intensity which transfers to the crowd, think about when you see The Prodigy for example. It's nothing to do with there might be sexual assaults going on in the crowd.

This put on a pretty large selection of events and the stage setups are quite spectacular.  I've been once and that was enough to be honest.  Food selection/quality is poor there so suggest taking own.

Yeah Boomtown more so than any other festival put a lot of effort into it's production value and experience which is where a lot of the money goes and as it's an independent festival that has struggled with two fests in a row being cancelled.

The line up whilst good desperately needs a couple of notable name headliners though, even if they aren't the size of Gorillaz or Lauryn Hill someone like IDLES or Becky Hill would have done.

I actually found the food selection pretty good there, every morning I got a nice huevos rancheros and my vegan missus was happy with the selection after normally being stuck for options at other fests.

Also why is this thread not in the Boomtown section?

Here's a good report made at the time. Scarcely believable...

    https://www.spin.com/2019/07/woodstock-99-live-report/

From the article “Vendors were also at the mercy of Ogden Corporation, the firm that partially owns Metropolitan Entertainment (which is co-owned by promoter John Scher) and set the prices for soda and water. According to vendor Frank Cristiano, water sold by Ogden to the subcontracted vendors cost a whopping $70 a case, more than $3 a bottle. Fans paid $4.” Shit like that should have been on the documentary.

  14. For all this talk about how drinkers are making the non-drinkers feel toxic pressure or thow hey are being berated I can't help but notice they are the ones calling the drinkers embarrassing or they only to know to enjoy themselves through drinks. lol

For reference the last gig I went to I didn't go to the bar at all as the lines were fucking massive, I still had fun but would have had more fun if I was able to drink so yeah, it does suck in comparison.
