....you do know it will be 2 different sets from Metallica right?

Yep, one is likely to be that classic album in full which has hit a big milestone St Anger for its 20th anniversary. Who would want to miss that! 😜

Oh I don't think they would, I'd just love it as an option and I actually wanna see BMTH and probably whoever the 4th is! I like Metallica plenty but I really, really hope there's an alternative on one/both of their nights if everything is true

Before you get your hopes up for a decent second stage alternative you need to hope they actually have the headliners playing at the same time first.

  3. Copping has mentioned stuff about going for it (which does make it sound like it doesn't try other years lol) and going to have surprises and Machine Head are probably the biggest non-headlining act I can think of that would get people excited especially as they seem more cooperative in recent years so it's not as much as a long shot as it once was even if it is still unlikely. Of course he could be talking about Pantera but there's a lot of eww with this reunion though even if it does bring in a load of Southern cross wearing fans just for them.

But that's because green day want golden circle to be first come first serve at all their shows e.g. the Emirates stadium 2013.

Yep, so artist do have a say which just shows that the working class hero Brucey is after the big bucks like the other big acts. 😜

This is the layout for Hyde Park. I can only find prices of the payment plans, where payment is spread across a number of months, so you likely end up paying a little more in total.

    GA: £95.45

    Gold Circle: £197.95

Shamefully lifted off a Springsteen forum, but yes.... £197 for a Golden Circle ticket seems very reasonable 😁

    It's a different promoter though.

Last time I went to BST Green Day were playing and they didn't have a paid golden circle. I got there early to see Stiff Little Fingers that day and saw that the golden circle was empty so I jumped the barrier as no one was around and security started chasing me, I thought it was to tell me off but instead they gave me a wristband to get in as it was on a first come basis for golden circle that day.

  6. My missus likes Springsteen so I'd imagine I will be going. I'm hoping for a couple of decent support acts like Frank Turner, The Gaslight Anthem, Patti Smith, The Hold Steady or Chrissie Hynde will do for me.

Hmm maybe you’re right. They’ve always been a ‘big’ band in the metal scene to me but maybe that’s because they were fresh off splitting when I first got in to them and so have always seemed rather nostalgic, but I’m not sure how much their music has travelled through younger generations (apart from Walk being an entry point in to heavy music). Sub seems right to me though and considering this will almost definitely be about making some money I can’t imagine they’d take much smaller slots (unless Download just forked out the cash regardless of the slot).

Sub or second stage headliners are the only two spots I see them working as. I reckon Hellfest and some other Euro metal fests will have them headline though.

I'd equate it to Slayer's last shows, for me that would have been an one off "worthy" headline set as every metal fan would have come out to see them even if they aren't a massive Slayer fans but they were put on the second stage against Tool another rare chance to see someone for some donkey reason.

Main stage sub if they were booked surely? Maybe once upon a time with one more original member they could’ve headlined upon reforming, but don’t see that happening now.

Not hard to think that Phil must’ve been licking his lips at the prospect of being able to do this the moment Vinnie died, who I assumed was always the roadblock in it happening before, but y’know… I’m sure it’ll still be fun for what it is. Wonder if there will be any big name musicians taking the vacant slots.

I'm not so sure even with Dimebag they would have headlined. This reunion is smaller than say Soundgarden who couldn't headline and as they are a band that appeal to a more niche (not the best word to describe them but it fits) metal fans in the UK their reunion buzz won't pick up as many temporary casuals fans the same way say Faith No More or Smashing Pumpkins did.

It's a bizarre thing trying to place them on a festival line up, second stage headliner would be best imo because of the trouble that is Phil and the questioning of the band's line up but that would still keep them feeling big.

Anyone reckon they will still be selling Confederate army merch at thier shows now?

Cerebral Ballzy, early/mid 2010's in The Pit. The lead singer had a fight with a security guard.

I remember them, their front man used to throw up on stage. I saw them on a tiny stage at a festival (not Reading but I can't remember which one) and the entire crowd was waiting for Odd Future who were on afterwards and their amateur chaotic punk routine didn't impress the crowd at all.

Just wait until that crowd gets a load of Greta Van Fleet when Download finally rebook them on a high slot.

"Now THIS is real music! Rock n roll is alive!"

Just like when The Darkness somehow became the biggest band in the country and people were talking about how this new cock rock music it taking music seriously again.

I was at a camping festival weekend after Glastonbury.

Why is it that if you don't want to attend a certain festival for a whole weekend it means you're right off them.

Download will rarely ever book a lineup overall for me that is worth what it costs.

Was that the festival Aqua and Steps headlined?

The vast majority of people on a festival forum want to go to festivals so it does come off as weird that you often talk about how you want festivals to have less bands or that you want shit line ups so you don't have to go as it counter what everyone else comes on here to talk about. Like I bitch about Download as it's becoming stale and I want it to be a better festival that can meet its potential whilst you want Download to be shit so just so you don't have to go to it.

Me too, means I'd have to attend more than 1 day if so and I don't want to be doing that.

What is it with you not wanting to do a camping festival anyway? Are you scared to shit in the long drops, have you not got any friends who would be up for it, you feel too old, not enough interest in live music beyond the casual hit songs etc.

I'll take it. I wouldn't go see Ted or Def but ma double denim pal will be all over it so it will balance out in terms of us both wanting to by tickets.

Never done it before even at the height of their success so I don't see them choosing to do it now, if they are doing their own one off show it's far more likely to be a London based stadium show.

I'm sad that I tried to think of the most embarrassing dinosaur rock act I could think of just to be told they would actually like Ted Nugent.

I'm gunnae be pure raging if the 2x Metallica + BMTH doesn't happen now. Hell, I'll be happy enough with 1 Metallica night as long as BMTH and Architects play.

What if it's Metallica, Ted Nugent, Def Leppard and Bring Me?

  15. Taking a punt before the first announcement I reckon it's something along the lines of this';

    Thu

Metallica - FFDP - Sabaton - The Pretty Reckless - Opeth

    Don Bronco - Alexisonfire

    Fever 333

    Friday

Bring Me - Architects - Greta Van Fleet - Failing In Reverse - Behemoth

    BFMV - Meshuggah

    The Interrupters

    Sat

Metallica - Hollywood Vampires - Halestorm - While She Sleeps - Avatar

    Limp Bizkit - Turnstile

    Neck Deep

    Sun

Slipknot - Parkway Drive - Killswitch Engage - Rancid - Anthrax

    Whitesnake - Kreator

    Deaf Havana

  16. I thought Thor was cocaine film making of trying to make it more outrageous only once Disney saw the dailies they had to cut most of it which is why it fills disjointed and why there's stuff in the trailers not in the movie.

One of the things that bugged was in the comics it's always clear that when Jane becomes Thor it's undoing the work of chemo which is killing all of her cells not just the cancerous ones so inadevertlying letting the cancer grow and she aware of it which is why she's worthy to lift the hammer but in the movie it just seems she using Thor as an excuse to ignore the cancer and was lucky Thor accidently enchanted it so she can use it.

  17. Why is Download so ashamed of having Enter Shikari play? They have played the fest loads and even headlined Pilot but they have never put them on the mainstage for some reason. Alestorm have played on the mainstage for fuck sake, they should be ashamed of them!

The Gaslight Anthem. Cap a UK and Ireland tour on August 24 in Belfast, and don't pick up the American leg of their reunion until September 13 in Portland.

Thing is a TBA suggests the band will be added to the poster, I can't see Gaslight with an arena tour to flog playing as anything other than a secret set on The Pit. Even as a headliner they are a lot bigger than who they normally have on.

For a band actually to be announced for the poster then Creeper seems like a good shout with their Download/2000 Trees holding them up. Maybe The Ghost Inside or Bury Tomorrow for the same reason as they were at Download. The Interrupters are another one who I suspect could be doing a secret set as their dates line up or as a headliner once enough tickets have been sold to their own shows.

Speaking of The Interrupters I'm really not feeling their stuff from the new album. I got into them on their first album when they had a street punk vibe in addition to the ska sound but they are becoming more and more pop-punk.

They've since sold out a 60,000+ arena tour so your obsession with that show doesn't need to be so burning 🙂

Just to add APE was the failure that year and not just Bring Me. The other days Mumford & Sons, Christine & The Queens etc all had bunch of freebie tixs released for them. Fuck knows what actually went wrong that year, maybe the dates, but the problem was bigger than Bring Me headlining.

  20. That Bring Me line up at APE was fucking amazing though. IDLES, Run The Jewels, While She Sleeps, Never Not Nothing/Black Futures, Architects, Nothing But Theives, Lotus Eater. It was the best £4.50 I've ever spent!
