Anyone know the biggest Sainsburys/Tesco between Bristol and EOTR?

After a load of Moth cocktails. And a sleeping bag.

We always use the Tesco at Shaftesbury, stock up then a quick pint at the half moon

  2. It's 12 o'clock on the Saturday afternoon, the sun is shining hot... your hangover ain't too bad...you stretch out in front of the garden stage, adjust your position and wistfully remember the pre-cheese grater days...your mate arrives back from the bar, hands you a glistening cold pint...the peacock chicks are pottering around your feet, the dragonflies are swooping overhead, everything is at peace in the world...so, who ya got playing that plum Saturday garden opening slot???

One of my favourite slots over the years tbh...a realistic guess...or just who would you love it to be out of the current line up?

Dream opener for me would be Alabaster Deplume, what a fucking way to start the day that would be, mesmerising jazzy wistfullness to ease in the long day ahead

Perhaps more realistic and equally soothing, someone like Lael Neale?

    Who ya got?

The whole raft of "limited" options that some bands come out with is really quite irritating.

Here's the normal version, a coloured one, a signed coloured one, the same coloured one with a different cover, one with stickers or a poster.

Guaranteed that there will be a special release for Record Store Day or something in the next year too.

Yip. I don't mind a standard release and perhaps a limited run of one special edition but this kind of thing is pretty absurd and kinda a turn off tbh...

Teleman we’re poor (and I frikkin love Teleman) because of their technical issues.  Faffing around between songs killed the flow and, on top of that, I don’t think going down to three and losing their keyboard guy is working.  It cost them a song during the set too. Dropping Repeater from the set list was also an odd choice imo as it’s well suited to bigger crowds to get them jumping.  I doubt many came away wanting to see them on tour which is a shame as they are usually good fun.

Yeah Teleman were really poor on the night, night and day from their Thursday night set the other year

Was he on his own or with a band?

On his own. Laptop just kept cutting out completely on him mid flow. Was pretty much a disaster. He managed to get through "i need to keep you in my life" and it sounded fantastic tbf. Hardly anyone left from what i saw... I felt awful sneaking out myself tbh but the heat was killing me.

  6. Had an amazing festival once again. Weather was unbelievable obviously. Thought the loos were gonna be a nightmare when they were already in ruins by the end of Thursday night...but they seemed to up their game and wasn't really a problem after that as long as you had your own loo roll stash. Showers could have been a bit smaller i was feeling a bit lost in those huge airy cubicles.

Loads of great music... The Comet is Coming blew me away, Arab Strap were sensational, Sleaford did a grand job on that big ol stage. Modern Nature was a beautiful vibe.

Did William Doyle manage to sort his gremlins out... Was too hot in there for me to stick that out but really felt for him... The couple of tracks he managed to get through before i left sounded great tbf

By far by biggest disappointment is that there's almost no-one I want to see early to mid afternoon in the Garden.

Not having a moan because covid but it's for sure the weakest lineup for years in the end for me with not really any international acts there.

Yeah those first couple of sets in the Garden each day are generally my favourite part of the festival.. Doesn't look much to go at this time

Edit: actually Anna B Savage first up on Sunday will probably hit the spot

  8. Not thrilled with those splits got to be honest

Fair enough it's the weakest line up for years cos of covid but sticking all the hottest acts on the sunday, when lots of people are taking it steady for the drive home at that, Well, ain't ideal is it.

Asking the question no one probably wants to tackle but What's the feeling on the ground in the UK about going to a music festival in a pandemic? How dumb an idea is it really?

I was lucky and got a ticket back in May when it felt this was on the way to being shaken out. However I'm getting increasingly worried about Delta after having some chats with a lad who had a narrow miss even with vaccines in the mix. 2 vaxxed bros hed contact with are sick. Someone else here was also saying a fair few he knew vaxxed have got it.

We'd be flying over from Dublin and on the coach from Bristol after a couple days there.  The trip is the big worry for me and we'll kn95 mask ourselves for it but herself has said she's not up for the tent stages already and I'm worried I'm being selfish wanting this. I'm pfizered, she's astrazenecad.

I'm sure most of us are "vaccinated! let's go" but I want to hear from people who've canned this this year or are on the verge of doing so for Covid fears. What's your thinking?

Regardless I'll offer herself the let's skip if she wants it. At this point the info is for me to try get a real feel of the risk.  Anyone I say in Ireland that I'm going to music festival looks at me like I'm a dumbass. That I follow with "it's called End of the Road" doesn't help.

Fucking hell mate, a bit of perspective surely. Perhaps you don't want to hear that but it's a funny kind of risk assessment where you only want to hear from folk too frightened to go.

You worked from home the entire pandemic by any chance?

Of course there's always a risk... But if you're under 70, in reasonable health and double jabbed it's so tiny as not to be worth worrying about. Unless you're gonna worry about a million other tiny everyday risks aswell.

Not to pick on you but christ this is depressing.

I'm outside the uk hanging on to a slim chance that I might get to this festival.

At the same time the offense that people in England take to the idea that we may need to wear a mask for something as simple as a few stages at a music festival is almost incomprehensible and seems to lack any perspective.

Well it's mutual incomprehension I'm afraid.

The perspective is really quite simple, this isn't the black death. Average age of covid death is still 82. Anyone who wants to be will be fully vaccinated. Sweaty paper masks pulled out of grubby festival pockets ain't gonna make a difference.

I don't support testing on the doors... some people travel from quite far away, and what about the false positives... I hope everyone is doing regular at home testing anyway? It's free after all.

I also wonder if 4 days at a largely outdoor event is not so bad compared to 4 days of visiting indoor pubs/bars/restaurants, which don't test people.

Testing at the doors would have me cancelling. A 5 hour drive to put myself at the mercy of a hokey Lateral Flow Test... No ta

If people want to wear masks while watching bands (maybe they have an underlying health condition?), it shouldn't raise anyone's heckles and good luck to them.

It's their own bloody choice, they'll obviously be in the minority and it's not affecting you one iota.

Oh of course, couldn't give a fiddlers fart if if someone feels the need. Folk were talking mandated mask wearing tho

The answer as a minimum I feel is to have everyone checked for having been 2 weeks post the second dose. And those that haven't been show a certificate of having had a test (a PCR ideally) within the previous 48 hours.

I mean I'm not thrilled with that idea but i can live with it at a push.... Its the talk of opening up the sides of tents or masking up while watching bands that raises my hackles.  Makes me nervous there's gonna be lots of "excuse me, you're standing too close to me" bobbins going on.

I suspect in reality tho it will be like all the test events... A huge free for all and everyone celebrating their liberation

Well you can't completely ignore the facts (and this is BEFORE opening up).

Soon to be no. 1 in the world...

    image.png

    And?

Anyone who wants to be will be double jabbed by then, presumably there won't be many 80 year olds in attendance? Anyone with a pre existing condition that makes them more vulnerable will presumably still be giving stuff like this a swerve for now?

If ya don't feel comfortable going then don't go... Personally I'm looking forward to putting this madness behind me..... and werritting behind a mask and avoiding enclosed tents aint a part of that plan.
