  1. Forget the last 205 pages people, it will soon be John Craven time, it's all that matters now, and is always my start to the festival. It all gets real after the Countryfile forecast....

I am routing for you all!

  2. As someone who didn't bag a ticket this year, I would love some non-spolier photos to take me back there atmthemmoment. Not bothered about seeing anything new/secret yet, just anything showing how the fields metamorphosis into party central in a few days. Photos of fields, bins, tents, pathways, sunsets, anything would be lovely!

  3. More focus on the paying punter than hospitality/staff/crew. There seems so much focus on giving hospitality/staff/crew the best camping sports and nearer to the main areas, more than there ever has been I think - just look at what they have don't to Pylon/Rivermead this year, I just don't know why it was necessary

... and bring back a Williams green type stage for the great bands somewhere between BBC Introducing at John Peel level, they need an outlet for their talents and its the best stage there is there in my opinion. Small crowds dont mean crap music, it often  means its just not 'out there yet' and needs an outlet to give them an audience

  4. I find myself weirdly drawn to this thread this year despite not having a ticket. In previous years I would only dip in and out as it was too much of a rollercoaster, but I suppose because as I have no "skin in the game" this year I can dip into this thread more often without panicking either way (heat or rain)

Only observations I would make are....

    1. It has been really dry for a long time so ground is hard and unlikely to change much over next few days, so unlikely to be a mudbath whatever happens over the fesitival weekend. Might be a few muddy bits here and there if it rains hard but nothing to get excited about. 2016 was a bit of a mess due to the weeks leading up to the festival, just check out some of he videos of the site build the weekend before 2016 to see how much of a mess the site was in the weekend before gates open. I cant see than happening this year

    2. Nothing matters until the oracle that is the Countryfile forecast is shown this Sunday...

Enjoy everybody, its going to be just fine

    RIP Bigdog

  5. Saw them in Norwich this week and thought they were really good, didnt play either of the songs mentioned above unfortunately, not sure why if they they were planning to play them at G, they would have gone down a treat. I have never thought they were the most engaging of bands but that's fine, that's the way they are, but the crowd were well up for it and loved it, helped by the massively crowd pleasing Hives before. I think they will go down a treat at G, even better than there last Glasto sets to be honest

Lovefields charge significantly more than a couple of hundred quid to pitch your own tent. I believe it’s closer to £500.

a campervan pitch is the best part of £1000.

The yurts are well into the thousands of pounds for just a couple of people.

I don’t think they are doing too badly!

Is that a first for this year then, I can't see anything that looks like a 'bring your own' tent in that photot? I am sure they make a nice sum from Glasto, but that's because where they are located, I am sure they could make a bucket load more if they filled that space a bit and charged a bit less than what they charge the posh punters. You could have a game of cricket in that space but still be a stones throw away from the Acoustic stage

The landowner and the festival had a significant falling out about 10 years ago, and while I believe things have softened a bit in recent years the relationship between the two has been absolutely toxic at times. Unless/until those fields change hands, there's no likely scenario they're made available to GFL again.

I wonder how they can guarantee tickets then?

That's The Love Fields, extremely expensive pre-erected tents or pitch your own. https://www.thelovefields.com/?fbclid=IwAR2DeUeo6Sg3BZwTB48Obh-kVl2OgBhQxIgNJqiPMJvAhSwQFoWAh4STBTc

Blimey, thats incredible, thanks. To have a large field so close to the main area and be so sparsely occupied is incredible. It looks empty, there arent many cars there either, seems such a waste, green space everywhere. It looks to be bigger than Worthy View and closer to the main stages, they could have fitted 10000 tents in that space! Even if it wasnt pre-erected tents, they could have charged a couple of hundred quid to reserve your own camping spot and bring your own tent. Surely they would make more money that way, and relieve some of the pressure for camping sites within the perimeter

... I want to but that peace of land!

Thanks for posting, I could, and will, look at that for hours! I am not sure what day it was taken, presumably Friday onwards as the stages have crowds in them, its interesting to see which fields still aren't full then with a view to camping spots next year as we arrive quite late... I have often through about Backhouse, as it always looks quite sparse, so seems to have loads of space into the weekend, although it is a bit out of the way

Does anyone know what the out of bounds fields to the East of Acoustic are used for, there are a few tents there but there must be enough open space for 30,000 tents there if they wanted! Seems such a waste, especially being so close to the action, I assume really posh/hospitality? I havent noticed that amount of green space so close to the main stages before

  10. I think the Foos are winding us up, I think they are fully aware of all the interest/intrigue about who the churnups are and are just having a laugh. I cant see any reason why they would make it so obvious for a start. Keep it a secret and they probably have one of the biggest crowds all weekend, whether it be Blur, Pulp or Foos fans there waiting to see who the big secret is. If people know its the Foos I think the crowd will be smaller than if was a genuine secret set. The excitement would be amazing if its kept quiet until the day it happens. If they have just announced themselves then what was the point, the excitement of a secret set has gone (albeit its still the Foos playing). I just cant think why they would announce themselves, especially as unsubtley as that message is, not exactly cryptic is it, they have nothing to gain from announcing it now

I just think they are joining in and stringing us along. If anything, I think that note makes it less likely that its the Foos, there you go reverse logic, just too obvious and unsubtle, th Foos are better than that! I wont be surprised if there will be similar unsubtle messages from other big bands between now and then...

Just walk up the hill from the Park and it’s on the left of the sign, a bit further left beyond Tricketts Bar. The highest stage at the festival!

Ooh, theres a question, which is higher, the Crow Nest or Strummerville?! I reckon Strummerville might be a bit higher, as it is right at the top of the field, and has a really steep slope to get to it. It always seems more of a slog to get to Strummerville than it does to get to the Crows Nest when you are at the bottom of the hill

Just found this thread, what's the vibe at the Stone Circle these days? Is it still full of NOS users, or is it a bit more spiritual again?

I suppose Glasto Fest must have stamped out all the drug dealers/users by now.

No, I think it's still NOS city central

I like this idea, at least I'll have clean clothes that this point and can give a good 1st impression!

Noone will be judging you I promise! Noone does at Glastonbury, at least noone you should care about!

Would the bars up there be open, or is it a more byo vibe?

I think all the bars will be open at the bottom of the hill (so in the Park) but take a few cans up there and chill out on the hill, it really is a wonderful atmosphere up there

  15. Head to the south around the stone circle and across that side toward the Crows Nest, on the hill, there will be hundreds soaking it all up and watching the first sunset over the festival site. Wonderful stuff! But you probably know that already, I just think its busier up there on Wednesday as less going on elsewhere so its just really full of happy people excited for whats coming up over the rest of the weekend

  16. ... sorry just remembered an even better stage they (PSB) played. Underneath The Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank at the first ever Bluedot festival in 2016l! Now that was something else, perfection. Jeez that was a line up and a half for a festival in its first year, Jean-Michel Jarre, Underworld, Air, PSB, 65daysofstatic, Floating Points, Mercury Rev.... That got my eldest son into music that weekend, and he has never looked back and is now doing an A-level in music production (amongst others), so I will be forever thankful, happy times indeed that year

I watched Leftfield rather than Public Service Broadcasting. My mate went to PSB & said they were top.

They are always great live, never seen them do a dull gig to be honest, they are really talented, and I couldn't think of a better stage for them than the Glade in the dark

I was at 2015, how did I not see this I love PSB live

We legged it from Suede (who were immense) to the Glade and caught the last half and hour or so, it was rammed at the Glade from memory so couldn't get very close.... Looking at the 2015 line up, that was a pretty great line up in hindsight, Lionel Richtea, Burt Bacharach, Motorhead, Patti and the tongue licking God, Libertines, Spiritualised, Gregory Porter, Goat, Jon Hopkins, The Who, Wolf Alice, King Gizzard, The Fall, Suede, something for everyone that year, loads of clashes
