  1. Coffee, Solpadeine and a bowl of sugar free Alpen with a chopped banana. For many years in our camp it was a tradition to drink an ice cold can of Special Brew (in the days when it was still 9% Abv) for breakfast on the Sunday but it would always mean that we'd want to go back to bed at around lunchtime. Stopped doing that five or six years ago.
  2. As far as I'm aware, there is only one spider. It was reduced in size several years ago when Arcadia started to get non Glastonbury bookings. It was so that it could then fit inside 40 foot shipping containers which made transporting it much easier and cheaper.
  3. Mate, I'm with you there. Never used a chopsaw, wouldn't know which end to hold. Got a big hand held circular saw which I've had to use a few times. Fucking hate it. It feels... Well, just dangerous. Guess it's just what one's used to. Got a big router as well. Awful thing. Properly gives me the willies. Had it for years and maybe used it ten times. Probably should go on a course or something.
  4. Actually yes. Cut first two sticks to length today and placed them upright ready to start work. Leaving the third in case the second largest one doesn't work. The smallest will work as I've done it before. Would be a massive waste to start on a stick as big as number three without proof of concept on two. Having said that, even if two works, three may not! Just popped out to take a pic as I've only just seen your post. Sorry for the awful image quality. It's dark ATM.
  5. If the revamped WG area doesn't feature a food court type thing I'm sure that the food court idea will just be transplanted elsewhere
  6. To anyone who is tempted to join the virtual meet but isn't quite sure (like I was) I'd honestly say give it a go. Really friendly, entertaining and only the occasional weirdo 🙂 All eyes turn to me 😁 A bit of Dutch courage is not frowned upon, actually pretty standard with many of the attendees. Also, it's not unknown for info about the festival which doesn't get posted on the forum being shared on there from time to time.
  7. I wasn't allowed to do either woodwork or art at school so didn't even manage to achieve a 'U' in the respective O Levels. I suspect that it may be because I wasn't prepared to be compliant in doing them in their 'correct' way. I can't remember the name of the art teacher but did email Fr Richard ffield OSB, the carpentry teacher, quite a few years ago to show him what I was up to. He remembered me well as be did teach me to sail. He was a good bloke, unlike many of his brethren. Having done a small amount of timber framing (I'm absolutely no expert), I suspect that a plank is a filling in bit, much wider than it is thick and a beam is there to support something.
  8. Glad you put 'stick' pics 🤣 He was a one off. So independent, more like a cat than a dog. We had to put a tag on his collar saying "I walk myself in Thurlbear Woods" as we constantly got phone calls from people saying that they had 'found' him. He could never understand why he wasn't allowed to do his thing at Glastonbury.....
  9. You learn something new every day!
  10. If you're bored, here's the original to trawl through https://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/topic/144627-it-started-with-a-stick/
  11. Unlike the original Started With A Stick thread, Brillo won't be featured as we lost him in 2019, aged 16ish.
  12. Not started yet. Hoping to use that stick for the second piece in a two piece project. It may have to be used for the first piece if a smaller stick isn't big enough. Then I'll have to use a larger one for the second piece. It's not another table set. Getting advice from an old friend who lectures in the theory of music. EDIT. I hope that that makes sense
  13. His funeral is next week. He was also site manager of the Green Gathering. Expect it to be very well attended. Hopefully there's going to be a load of old hippy convoy vehicles as part of the cortege.
  14. Nige,a huge part of the Croissant Neuf family. CN core crew for the last 28 years. An absolute diamond. He left to join the festival in the sky last week. He'll be missed so much.
