Chances are they did that on a "book us next time we tour" basis.

To obsessives like us Coldplay is the laziest, most unimaginative booking possible (other than Muse). Same band bringing the same show over and over again. Yes it's a good show and I'm glad I've seen it but there's no real need for it to happen again. To regular punters and the world outside these forums however they're one of, if not the, biggest bands on the planet and an enormous get. Emily is never going to turn down an offer from them to play given their relationship with the festival.

In most years by early March we’ve had one or two headliners, the legend and maybe a smattering of other acts. To go this long with complete radio silence from the festival with regards to the lineup is unusual by recent standards.

We get people saying that headliners will get tiny crowds every year, but no Pyramid headliner at Glastonbury will ever walk out to three men and a dog.

It's all moot to me as I'll be watching The National at home anyway.

Muse in 2016 was lazy and unnecessary, but there haven't been many risky bookings that have failed to deliver. Even the bookings that we may not necessarily like or have enjoyed - Mumfords, Kasabian, Sheeran, etc were all understandable in that they were all understandable at the time.

Co-headliners are pointless at a festival like Glastonbury where only one gets to play last. I get it for Reading/Leeds where they can swap placings between sites, but not for Glastonbury.

SZA is definitely one for the "they should make riskier, edgier bookings" crowd. Can't say I'm massively au fait with her stuff but if it is her then I sincerely hope she smashes it. Few would argue she'd be first pick so I would be fascinated to see the journey that's lead to this point.

I think headlining three festivals after doing the legend slot would be pretty poor.
