  1. I don’t think this announcement is that bad. Because you have 4 real headliners. Most of us don’t go to sziget for the headliners anyway. Besides that, this is only 10% of the line up, maybe even less.

Leaks already confirmed they are talking to a rock headliner and another which they didnt agree with before this announcement, but probably will be the biggest of all. Since they planned to announce it this time why this announcement was delayed. Most undercard names will be announced next time. After that there will be the party arena announcement and after that the colloseum.

but most off all. Line up helps but sziget is way more than just the line up. If you only go for the line up, please stay home.  The vibe doesn’t need you 😉

Also deffo no Bicep and no First Aid Kit. Let's hope there's a few rock/indie acts on the undercard.

    Where is this confirmed?

first aid kit and biceps are very likely because of all the other festivals they do in europe in August…

Sziget never gets 2 DJ headliners. For 1, they focus on different genres and for 2 even if the act is available they would save it for Balaton Sound which is their DJ focused festival.

2015: Avicci and Martin Garrix as headliners…

Do you think M&S makes sense? They are in Europe in July then end of July they are in Canada, then end of august they are in the US. Would it make sense for them to come back to europe for a few weeks in august?

Usually when a band plays in europe June/July they go somewhere else in august. Would be logistically a nightmare to travel from Canada all the way back to Europe to go back to the USA…

    It wont be them.

I think these guys aren't ruled out

Usually when bands are in early summer in Europe, they change to other continent in August.

according to that “rule” they are ruled out…

For sure some of these will come.

Usually there is a split in first part of summer and second part of summer. That rule out a lot of these acts for sziget.

compared to dutch festival line up, you should look for line up of Lowlands. That festival share a lot acts with Sziget.

about that EDM headliner, assuming there will be one
from 2016 on Sziget booked David Guetta, The Chainsmokers, Kygo, Martin Garrix and Calvin Harris.

the issue with EDM is that the scene is basically revolving around the same names since 2013, and very few acts reach in bringing something new to the scene and none of them gets the popularity the big names Sziget usually books as headliners (eg Fred Again, Rufus Du Sol, etc)

the only actual "big" mainstream edm acts that haven't been booked recently are Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren and Swedish House Mafia

I've read Armin's name here, but I honestly think his reach in the mainstream is almost non-existent and that's why I'd rule him out

SHM are very popular in the scene, and in 2023 they'll tour festivals - that said, I honestly think they ask for a way bigger setup than other djs and in 2022 their tour went pretty badly, their album flopped commercially (the cancellations that someone mentioned here were due to low ticket sales) and I can't see them actually happening (might be wrong here)

with Leaks confirming that Chainsmokers won't be there and ruling out Calvin Harris for sure and I think Kygo and Garrix as well, I think they'll book either Tiesto or David Guetta, the only two somehow still capable to top charts in 2022 and kinda evolve their genre (thanks to other artists coproducing for them ofc)

they also might do something unexpected and move towards a (slightly) more underground headliner such as Paul Kalkbrenner, Eric Prydz or deadmau5, I'm not seeing that happen but it would be a nice surprise

I was wondering why nobody was mentioning Tiësto before….

He is huge for 20 years now and i don’t know if he ever played at Sziget…

    Negative

    Negative in what way?

No Chainsmokers as headliner but as something else?

no EDM headliner? (I could understand if they don’t want fireworks)

    no chainsmokers

    lets play a game 🙂

Also if they canceled Volf Festival, should they have a bigger budget for Sziget then? 🤨 or it's not how that works

Usually those festivals are all different entities under a bigger company. You can move the money around a bit but normally you keep the money in the same entity.

so not a bigger budget. Although if VOLT took place they had to move money around to cover the losses in the last edition.

Do you think they will cancel Balaton Sound too?

Both Balaton sound and VOLT did not make profit this year. Balaton sound also does not have dates for 2023. 2 options:

they will full focus on Sziget which made profit

they had to make a choise between balaton and VOLT. Because balaton is different genre, they choose that one.

If Paramore are about I think they'll be there as a headliner alongside Billie Eilish. Can't see Sam Fender being invited back. Would love Green Day but not sure they'd have both them and Paramore as headliners on the same bill. Think Stormzy is likely as sub, as he's around too.

Is Paramore big enough to be headliner these days or can they sub before Green Day or Billie Eilish?

I really don’t get the big thing about Billie Eilish but at least it’s a change from Dua Lipa/Pink and it would be good to see new names. She will be a big draw and great for the demographics of the Festival but just not for me.  We have shared many a headliner with Leeds so it all makes sense with the timing.  This was a leak but not sure how true it is

I think the weekend also fits the bill perfect. But hint from leaks is clearly for the first headliner. We all know who that will be 😉

  13. Well, that was it already.

For me this Sziget was just not it. We had some great times but in general the line up compared to the price increases (higher price, less days, not much things i really wanted to see) is not worth it anymore.

next to that, the food prices became so much higher since the first time i visited Sziget, 8 years ago.

I think for a lot Dutch people this will be the last time. I overheard several conversations saying the foodprices are not acceptable anymore. People have to travel and pay for the festival. Sziget was able to be compete with Dutch festivals because of cheaper prices. It’s not like that anymore. It is cheaper to go to Down the rabbit hole or Lowlands where the line up is better than come all the way to Budapest.

What I noticed 8 years ago is still happening: the further you get in to the week, the more prices starts to rise. A wrap gyros was at the beginning 4500 (more than 11 euro’s really??) yesterday it was 4900… A lot bars didn’t have all the drinks anymore, the same for food.

Im concerned about the future of the festival.

Does anyone know if we can enter the island from H bridge? And if we can exchange our tickets there?

General public transport tips for arriving from the city would be appreciated!

On the map in the app that’s an entrance.

  15. 40 minutes ago, Dutchfestivaladdict said:

Perfect! Thanks! Did you pay with general card or credit card? Or were both accepted?

Both will be accepted. As a dutch person you are able to use your bankcard because Hungary is also EU (not Euro). You dont have to do anything. But normally it is cheaper to pay every transaction in cash and get bigger amounts at once from ATM.

Smaller? Compared it to the other passports of previous years? To me it seems like the exact same looking at size. Why do you wonder it’s smaller?

If the free camping is really that small and the nature reserve is not camping, there are way less places to camp on the island. I might be wrong but also on the southern part of the island i thought it was further away from the mainstage where they had a special camping, now thats a nature reserve.

Btw, dont get it why they mention some stages/bars twice on the list with the map
