Oh that’s concerning for me, could they be a headliner (and therefore against Kendrick?) they were 3rd down on West Holts in 2017 and had a fairly successful album since then.

    Kendrick is Sunday.

I'm expecting an Avalanches-Gallagher clash. I was looking forward to a nice Saturday evening settled in front of the Pyramid, but Avs are one of my big faves.

  2. I love how The Lightning II gradually gets faster as it goes on.

They did the same thing on the best Album 1, Track 1 in music history, Tunnels, which is part of why you get the dopamine rush at the magic parts of the song.

Of course, they're known for big tempo changes, like in Wake Up, but this is more subtle.

(edit: I don't just mean The Lightning II is faster than The Lightning I either 😄 )

Fun way to really drive home that forward motion feeling the song has.

This is a bit similar to the 2013 tour where they played tiny places as The Reflektors.

And Sc**thorpe Baths Hall for Everything Now

AF in Gorilla would be mental. I’m no expert on venues and their sizes, but surely they’d play somewhere a bit bigger than that?

I'm just thinking it's the go-to for bigger artists playing smaller shows over here. Kylie Minogue did it, Snoop Dogg, and to a lesser extent Foals and that kind of band.

Although this is becoming the norm for them now, I think they said something like they treat each btw album cycle as if they were just starting out again, playing really small venues, and quickly working themselves up to the big 'uns.

  5. Another extremely last minute show, this time New York.

If they do London and Manchester, I reckon it would be Gorilla that they'd play up here in Manc... Similar capacity to Bowery Ballroom.

  6. Great that it's coming out so soon too. Even if they release more music from the album between now and release, I think I'm going to hold fire and get as much of a fresh listen as I can in May.

“The attendance today for Arcade Fire at Wembley Arena is 30,661!”

    *gentle applause*

Would have worked well alongside their ringwalk intro they did on the last tour

  7. Yay! It's good!

Familiar but different, which is what I like out of my favourite bands. While it's not hook-laden like singles from the last two eras, I immediately warmed to it, and I reckon it'll be their most cohesive sounding record since The Suburbs.

Also seems less suited to a visual theme for their live shows, a thing we've come to expect from AF, but you never know what they've got up their sleeves. Just from the sound of this one song, maybe setlists will be lighter on Reflektor and Everything Now stuff. Although they were fantastic at putting all sorts of different songs in their sets last time round, to be fair.

Not interested in the debate around size, headliner suitability if I'm honest. I got to see my favourite band headline the Pyramid Stage on the first Friday of my first Glastonbury, everything else is a footnote.

I can well see them doing some surprise last minute UK shows again. They went to Blackpool for Reflektor, bloody Sc**thorpe for Everything Now, I'd be well up for one of them, leading to a full tour announcement.

The Will situation is a funny one. As they've not said anything, I'm taking it as a sign that they're leaving the door open for him to come on tour, but are ready to go on without him. Maybe that's part of his issue, if he feels limited in what he does in the band. Especially as he's produced a healthy amount of solo music now.

  8. I'm been thinking about this with someone in our group..

Instead of telling the first timer to come and do this thing or that thing, after you're set up and ready to go, place them at the front of your crew and say 'let's go'.

Stop at the places they want to stop, take an unexpected left turn when they feel like it, etc.

Discovery and exploration is such a cool part of a first glastonbury, and I'm thinking doing this will kinda recreate a bit of that feeling for the rest of us too.

What times are they likely at?

I'm willing to help but I have a feeling the time change is gunna be a bitch.

Thursday 24th March is before our clocks go forward - 6pm GMT (Toronto 2pm)
Then Sunday 27th march, a few hours after our clocks go forward - 9am BST (Toronto 4am)

  10. The Cribs, Manchester Academy last night

Clearly loving being back playing live, the Jarmans tore through a great setlist, book ended with blocks of live staples and new songs, with a luxury filling of dynamite choices from older albums.

These included My Life Flashed Before My Eyes and Baby Don't Sweat, which went down almost as well as everything else. Shows how many absolute tunes they have in their back pocket this far down the line.

With the negative laddish kinda element now almost completely shorn off from Cribs shows, you're left with what is a mostly mega loyal fanbase (12th Cribs gig for me, a number which I felt was dwarfed by most around me). So it's still loud and raucous down the front, but it's all love.

While the twins cut their usual figures, Gary really getting into what he was playing and singing, Ryan hunched over and round his mic with the occasional Rockstar pose, Ross was really feeling it, his drums coming through good and loud, and driving home how great everything sounds with live Cribs.

I can never quite make out a lot of what band say between songs at Academy, but of what little they spoke included Ryan simply saying "I love it man" in his typical, almost shy manner and asking those chanting Yorkshire to be careful about starting a war of the Roses. But even those chants didn't draw any ire. Like I say, it was only love.

If anyone was ever in any doubt during the long break between their tours, Cribs gigs always deliver, and leave you waiting for the next time you can feel that life affirming energy.

  11. I am unreasonably disappointed that there will be no Thursday night Al Doyle DJ set this year!

That was the thing I set my mind on in March 2020, get to that Thursday night and remember how you felt when everything got cancelled.

But you should never try to recreate previous experiences at Glastonbury anyway, hey?

  12. Last week, got surprised by a freebie to see HENGE, and my god, that's a unique brand of acid-house infused space rock that made for a very fun time! I can see why they played last Glastonbury 3 times in the middle of the night, same again this year please! Interestingly placed venue, The New Continental in Preston, down a dark road and the back room of a respectable restaurant/bar outfit.

Last night, Dry Cleaning in Manchester Academy 2, pretty good, but the loud band/softly spoken vocals thing didn't translate super well to the live setting, especially an echoey one like Academy 2. Hmm.

Metronomy playing Worthing assembly hall on Weds 22nd June. Almost certainly confirms them!

    Kindly confirmed by the promoter!

Edit: Could well mean a Glaston slot for the support, Folly Group, as well. Check out their song Sand Fight if you're interested.

  14. Twilight Singers with Mark Lanegan at Leeds Fest 2006 was one of the most mesmerising, captivating gigs I've ever, ever seen.

I met him afterwards as well, too intimidated in my youth to ask anything except which band he was on his way to see (Primal Scream)

    What a loss.

Hello! I live in NYC and work for a prominent independent music/pop culture publication. I've been a major festival attendee in the US for years now and would be thrilled to make Glasto happen this year--is there anyone who's worked press/attended with media credentials, either from the US or otherwise? If so, respond to this or send me a PM! I have a few questions about what to expect before press applications are live.

Just saw on another thread that applications for press are now open until late March. Good luck!
