Yeah fairs, put it on for a second listen now. Maybe it was ME who was somber this morning, ha.

Agreed - only 2/3rds way through first listen tbf, but so far it feels incredibly low key compared to the debut, to me anyway.

No bad thing, it feels mature and certainly isn't pandering to a pop crowd.

The worry is still hospitals getting overwhelmed, as they are already busy dealing with backlog of stuff.

True, but they’re only going to be busier in winter dealing with what’s expected to be a larger than usual number of flu cases, so it really is now or never, isn’t it?

Yes, the football isn’t what we are used to now at the highest levels but that applies to most things. Everything develops and improves. I watched it in 66 on a shity rented black and white valve telly, our car was a crappy Morris minor etc etc.  Now I’ve. 46 inch lcd telly and a decent car! Football has taken great strides in terms of tactics, fitness,  substitutes pitch standards. Everything is relative.

Absolutely. I'm not having a go at it (realise it sounds a bit like I am, apologies), more just marvelling at how far we've come.

  4. NDA feels more like it to me. Maybe because it's the most similar in vibe and tone (especially with the video) to the first album.

My Future and Therefore I Am are decent too. Your Power is ok, not a single for me, and Lost Cause I thought was pretty dreadful (really boring, no dynamics at all, which Finneas is normally a king of).

    Football in 1966 looked shit.

For all the rose-tinteds about the good old days, the standard of football was fucking APPALLING back then. I watched about 10 minutes of the 66 final once (bear in mind this is the pinnacle of football back then).

It was one of the funniest things I've ever watched.

    SAGE being optimistic??

I don’t think so personally, ZOE app is already hinting that we are likely plateauing around now.

Rate of growth has been consistently falling for some time now.

    Two great points.

I'd like to see us get the first goal (well, I'd actually like to see us get the first four goals), I think that would change the dynamic of the game. If Italy were to take a 1-0 lead in the second half, we'd be in for a very frustrating remainder of the game.

I know it's such an obvious cliche, but in a game like this, the first goal really IS crucial. Could be spectacularly wrong, but I really don't see it being a goalfest.

That said, much like most of our games in this tournament, we seemed to grow stronger and more confident from the sixty minute mark.

Southgate's gameplan approach to this tournament appears to be - stay in the game the first hour, then finish very strongly.

If we are drawing or better at 60mins, I think we have a really good chance. Our bench is very strong, and what really encouraged me on Weds is we finished the game with far, far more energy than Denmark.

Denmark looked like us against Croatia in 2018 - punched out, physically and mentally spent.

Everyone will be self isolating soon!

I think the idea post July 19th is that if you've come into contact with a positive test, you will take daily tests rather than self isolate. Otherwise - as you say -  we could end up with a sizeable percentage of the country isolating, with cases rising.

I don't know, but he had to book players quicker. The game became rougher than it should be.

Ah no, it's OK. I'm thinking of Lahoz (Spanish Ref) who officiated the France-Portugal game, and gave 3 pens, 2 of which were questionable.

Quickly Kevin podcast was good value this morning. Live reporting from the stadium throughout the day.

Like a more sober Rob Beckett. John Widdicombe on 80 mins: "This is horrible. I just want to go sit on the toilet on my own. And cry."

Not THAT much more sober! Widdecombe was absolutely gone by full time. Very enjoyable listening.

    Predictions for Saturday?

I'm going for 3-0 to England, Sterling, and a Kane brace.

I think it'll be a tighter, tougher game than many expect.

Ukraine will sit deep and then try to do us with crosses/set pieces.

1-0 or 2-1, Foden to come to the party.

This current team don’t seem to have the fear factor when it comes to Germany/penalties. Maybe because they’re too young. They said on the news the other day Henderson was only 6 days old when we played them in the 1990 World Cup so it’s doubtful he even remembers his boss taking a spot kick at Euro 96 (although he does seem to have based his penalty taking on Gareth’s).

Yeah, don't want Henderson taking one...
