Guess we could only see them once in a lifetime

    ... sorry

I didn’t think my wife was serious when she said she was leaving me because I kept referencing Talking Heads song titles.

    And She Was.

There's enough there that, if I was Belgium-based, I'd give it a look. But I'm not sure I find it as alluring as some others I've contemplated.

Though the fuck is that poster design? Awful font and a yellow/grey colour scheme that really does not fit together.

It’s so bad I read it the first time and was surprised Editors weren’t on there.

Normal service was resumed on the second reading.

The Mercury Prize almost exclusively going to London acts to the point that you wonder if the results are sometimes skewed in it’s favour. Last non-London act to win was Young Fathers in 2014.

Not to take away from Simz’ victory as the album is ace, but it’s still a strange statistic.

Madder than that, discounting Arlo Parks (who’s West and ruins the pattern) it’s alternated between North and South London artists since 2016.

Annoyingly I've been meaning to pick up SIMBI** on vinyl for about 6 months. It's probably just doubled in price.

**Despite hammering this album over the last few months it was only recently pointed out to me that Sometimes I Might Be Introvert spells SIMBI.

Just picked up for £21 on double clear vinyl from rough trade (with discount code). Still there if you’re quick!

Also only discovered the initials today. A touch embarrassed.

And this looks like all we’re getting today. Headliner to come later.

    . Rock n Roll 1 & 2,

Go to any sports stadium in the US and they play it. Like he’s never been guilty of anything.

Love the smiths and morriseys solo work. But at the time of release I thought bengali in platforms was dodgy. National front disco can be taken as a lament for someone attracted by fascism but live it was the England for the English line that was emphasised. It felt wrong then and now theres no benefit of doubt. I still listen to the songs but not sure I would see him live again

Oh the signs were there. Coming on at Finsbury Park with a Union Jack etc. Having a massive hissy fit when the NME called him a racist.

I’m conflicted. Unusually I prefer his solo stuff to his Smiths stuff. Your Arsenal is one of my favourite albums (though at least I’ve got a copy on vinyl, so my decision to play it won’t affect his royalties). I try to have the stance of what person they are shouldn’t affect the work they do (and vice versa), but that obviously becomes a lot harder with the Glitters and Watkins of the world.

Let's be honest, if the interview, his own quotes and the accusations levelled at him were one of the dull, MOR 70s/80s DJs from Radio 1 then by and large we'd have no hesitation in agreeing it should be changed. People have been pilloried for less than this. No one would be clinging on to the Dave Lee Travis tent.

Said it before and I'll say it again, it's a lot easier to be judgemental on those you don't like.

Even if the accusations against him aren't true, his own testimony in those interviews make keeping the stage name a really troublesome point in the modern age.

If we can support tearing down statues of people who were acting within the law at the time but shouldn't be celebrated with  modern eyes, we can rename a festival stage. However much he did for new music.

Encapsulates my feelings on it pretty well.

He’s left an indelible positive mark on shaping the music tastes of this country which you can’t take away.
However, even his substantiated actions make him at best creepy, at worst predatory.

One doesn’t cancel out the other, but should we be lionising him in this day and age? I don’t think so.

It should be changed because it’s the right thing to do, not because it’s what the Hate Mail wants. Lord knows they’ll find another stick to beat this festival with even if it is changed.

Mind you, let's start placing bets for which provincial football stadium he's off to.

Worth painting a pitch in the Pyramid arena and seeing whether he’d go for it?

Wishful thinking but I’d love Kate Bush as the legend or headliner

Really tricky one where she’d go. I’d lean towards headliner. Given her recent resurgence, I wouldn’t rule it out.

Not sure it’s a hack, but possibly a lesson. Learn that guy lines are adjustable and don’t have to be set out at full extension! 😂

Seems to be done to try and occupy more space in my experience rather than any practical benefit.

Haven't been on here for a while, but just seen people talking about Cliff being the legend. To quote Sister Michael from Derry Girls: "Have you lost your actual minds?" 😯

There’s a very good reason Wimbledon has a roof these days.

Outside shout of Yusuf Islam would be great

I would love this if he put out the hits. Really hits that “oh I didn’t know they did that that one too!” criteria you need in a good legend slot.
