Yeah it is fairly clear they still go all out to try get these types of acts. It's clear it was Madonna this year maybe next year it will be her again. We have seen from past examples (Prince) that they will sometimes try again and again. I think they know they have some leeway to bump up smaller acts like SZA but also they don't want to rest on their laurels too much, they will remember the times they weren't the hottest ticket in town. I reckon Swift and Madonna will be the big ones they will be trying to secure over the next couple years. They are always going to be restrained by the plans of the artist. If Madonna announces a BST date or whatever they can probs get her.

Also every year there is a diminishing pool of legend status headliners to do it.

Also people are comparing the initial poster to the finished lineup from past years. Last year had Foo fighters playing 3rd down cause they wanted to, the festival will continue to be the biggest and best in the world. It's maybe a slightly weaker year.

Who the f**k was the american act emily mentioned in the podcast? Obv it fits in with SZA but timelines suggest it isn't her. Won't be Stevie W cause of the 2 women thing and Coldplay clearly being on the agenda for ages.

Yeah it had O Rod too I think. 2022 was vintage but there were a lot of artists around post covid. I think it's the legacy acts that get the most hype. Elton was a last chance type thing too same with Macca. They obv tried for Madonna and didn't get her. Switching her for SZA and people would be saying it's iconic. Small margins between it being great and average. The bookers can only do so much.

Yeah if SZA can headline, Lizzo or Lana could and should have. Especially when they clearly struggled last year too to get the third name.

Lana also has 9 albums I think many of which reached UK number one. SZA has two albums which did little over here. Anyway you cut it Lana is bigger. Her Reading Leeds announcement seemed to go down well too on social media. That said , can you imagine she was headling the full thing and came on late cause of her hair lol

Other stage headliners look fairly weak (National excluded) as do Pyramid Subs. Third down last time had Capaldi (mega star) and Foos (obv playing well below their billing). I think this year has objectively smaller artists looking at it

doubt SZA is top 5. She clearly isn't bigger than Billie. I'd argue Lana is bigger tbh. P!nk is bigger too. Beyonce. No way she is top 5 - she is a clear bump up.

it's not about better for me, I'm aware she is critically acclaimed. literally not a chance. I repeat- has she ever even played arenas? potentially but only cause they're pushing her a lot, on no objective measure should she be subbing which she presumably is this year
