I have been told by somebody who would definitely know that arcadia will be a spider this year. Interested to see if he's right

That would be so disappointing, the spider is a bit rubbish now. It's the oldest electronic music stage now, everything else has had a change up. It'd be a bit disappointing if it was all the same especially for something that was designed to evolve.

No clue as yet …. Would make a great venue in my opinion … there were some steps lying about . Not sure it would be safe for punters to be climbing though but maybe / hopefully some kind of stage

Interesting wonder if it could be similar style attraction to the peer?

Good to have more/different venues around to explore!

Just gotta love that phrase, London bar prices!

Wonder if this is a new phrase or the site just hasn't been updated.

Pints were £6.50 last year which is basically Manchester city centre prices now. Swear some London places are up to £8 now.

This doesn't seem to be the consensus here but... I really hope the whole churnups thing doesn't become standard. I find it weird to expect a surprise.

Not a huge fan of there almost having to be secret sets as well.

I know I sound like a right grumble guts !

Would prefer secret sets either like the churnups or non at all

Hopefully the festival have stopped doing stupid things like Bastille on Thursday now.

Apologies if this question has been asked before on here, but what is the view on when the next drop of Oxfam places will be?

I already have a place but won’t take it up unless my wife secures a stewarding role as well or we are both successful on the resale.

I know there is an 8 week window (before start of the festival) for getting a refund on my own position so don’t want risk passing that date.

Next Oxfam drop is probably going to be after the Glastonbury resale and probably after the 8 week cancellation.

They do that so they know how many places are actually available.

I'd assume that ultimately this will mean a complete technology change, with Eventim introducing their own technology.

The See systems are quite antiquated in some ways, as they're pretty much a direct evolution from the systems they were using when Way Ahead first started selling online over 25 years ago. Even the GFL system is pretty much a rudimentary customer database nailed onto the regular See backend.

GFL may have preferences on how the ticket process works, but ultimately that'll have to be within the parameter that the relevant ticket agency is willing to provide as doing anything fully bespoke comes with a cost.

If it's a german company I'm not so sure, know people over there who say printing out tickets is still pretty common place/required rather than use mobile scans.

The cushiest volunteering free entry has to be a set on a small stage on the Thursday of the festival @Nuthugger. Have you considered committing yourself for the next year to learning to either be a superstar DJ OR a novelty act playing 90s dance tunes on the acoustic guitar so you can get a 30 minute slot and a free ticket?

Tbf I think showhawk duo have that as their full time job!

This was my friends view too. It's not like he was picking it up by hand, they had tools for dealing with it. Sounds like i'm not as squemish as you, it wouldn't bother me. Toilets need cleaning, lots of people do it every day, it's not a big deal.

Don't knock it until you have tried it. Honestly and I deffo ain't looking to cause any arguments but having done it, it is absolutely not as bad as many seem to fear.

I do think people underestimate the benefits of virtually all Wateraid volunteer shifts being between 06:30 and 22:30. It's fantastic to not have an overnighter and the disruption that causes to the days either side of that shift.

Yeah tbf that post came across little harsher than I meant. I've always said that the people I know who've done it say "it is what it is, but it's honestly not as bad as you'd think"

They definitely do have shifts through to 2-3 am though, I remember diving into a freshly scrubbed longdrop on the way back from the SE corner last year. They'd even left soap at the taps!

dont wanna sound like a complete bum but what is the cushiest vol position?

From the ones I know about definitely the Guardian hands down.

Three shifts between 3 and 5 hours long, all finished by 2pm one 6am start. All shifts on site at busy points.

They're a mix of paid and volunteer roles like Avalon, so some people have that pattern and get paid!

The problem is you basically have to work for them to get it.

I haven't done it but a friend did Loo Crew for the first time last year whilst I did Oxfam for the first time. What he had to do seemed a lot more cushty than me. For example, he had to sign in to each shift at the Wateraid campsite whilst I had to be at my shift location at the start of my shift - so travel time to his shift location was included in his shift while mine wasn't and it can be a very long way to where your shift is. His team had a set route of loos to clean for his shift and once his team had done them they got to end for the day (he said they always finished early). I had to stay at my post for the whole shift and could only leave once the team replacing us had arrived - which wasn't always at the correct time! If I hadn't got a coach ticket this year I was planning to try for Wateraid, I did a 6 mile sponsored swim and raised a few hundred quid for them in September last year so I was hoping that would help my chances of getting a place.

Your friend also had to literally clean up sh*t. Which no cushty perks of starting when you sign in or finishing when you've done your loos the right number of times can make up for being around that smell for more than 10 minutes at a time.

Can't help but notice this thread often being a grumble fest, rather than anything to do with 2024 site changes.

I think that's mostly because there's no Info on new stuff.

The only thing we know is genosys is back.

  12. I find it really interesting that some of the changes from the last couple years seem to get set aside. Things like moving BBC introducing to its own field and adding a couple of smaller stages next to it. Shangri-la got a complete redesign last year with a new stage, no-where, and the whole supermarket theme with a couple of secret venues added back in.

They're actually quite big changes when you think about, what's the reason they haven't quite landed with people?

Or it’s just got a bit muddy from sitting in the fields for several months over a pretty grotty winter

Possible yeah, would wonder why they'd get something for the end of the festival and leave it over winter though

The metal on the inside is for running cables and the fact it's got see through glass suggests it isn't something back of house. Definitely looks like it's been/planned to be on or near a stage because of the signs about noise.

You're right though it's definitely not the levels, or at least not something you can see from the front of the levels.

But it looks like it's already been used on site rather than something new which is interesting

Ireland! One group getting the bus from Bristol, one group driving from Wales side and then the final group driving up from London. Not sure if that will make a difference.

The London group should try to arrive on the west side of the site otherwise they'll have to trek all the way through the site with their stuff from the east car parks to get to you.

If Oxfam follow previous years and do another glasto drop in May, this will be after the refund deadline for anyone who already has their oxfam place? My girlfriend has one and I want one, she isn’t keen on doing it alone so we don’t want to risk me not getting a place and being past the refund deadline. Is any glasto drop likely to be before the oxfam refund deadline?

Oxfam will probably be after the refund deadline. You could both cancel your place and then both try again. For late additions the cancellation deadline is still there but slightly shorter. That's not ideal though

Interesting report. Is the festival required to produce this as part of it’s license? Is this a first, I don’t recall seeing this report before?

I don't think so but it's always handy to have something like this on hand. Being able to show you generate £32 million for the local economy is always helpful!

How much work the CC would do on the case is debatable and they would probably just pass the concerns on and ask for a response. As SC has already raised the issue and had an apology it probably wouldn’t achieve anything

That's what I was getting at when I said it would be unlikely to meet their threshold.

You could do it but the way it was handled in the end was the better way to do it imo.

I would encourage you to let the Charity Commission know about your experiences, if not for you, but for other people, maybe in the same situation or dare I say even more worse off.

Just if anyone is reading this, the charity commission investigate serious complaints of harm and illegal activity about a charity. Being spoken to in a sh*tty way and told to sign in to your shift in a field you can't get to are really unlikely to meet that threshold.

Glad they apologised and I'd agree with what other people have said that sometimes you need some self advocacy to ensure your needs are met. Everyone is a volunteer with different abilities.

There is sometimes (more often than is acceptable) an issue where the information about reasonable adjustments doesn't get to / isn't really considered by the supervisor for the shift, despite it being discussed prior to the event.  This happens because the supervisors are also volunteers, and have a varied amount of experience (and skill) in doing that role.  The good supervisors will check their shift sheets before they head out, and if anyone has a RA marking, check with the shift leads what is needed before they get there; the reasonable supervisors will have a conversation with the person with the RA marking about what's needed, and make sure the adjustments are met;  the inexperienced / poor supervisors will not know what an RA marking is for / not know that they need to check / not care.

It's something that probably needs to be more explicitly discussed in the training I think.

My experience as a a gate organiser was that as you have no shift sheets you had no idea about any RAs that people might have.

So people were having to self declare them to me at the start of a shift so they weren't standing in the sun etc, which isn't what you want and not everyone is comfortable doing that.

The gate supervisor, who had the list, obviously had about 60 stewards to get through to sign in and find out who had the RAs . He did in fairness get to everyone but because of a couple of incidents at the start of the shift that took about 2 hours.

I ended up just asking everyone individually in a quiet moment if they had any RAs they felt comfortable sharing that I should know. Which worked really effectively and I actually discovered a couple of things that weren't listed but we could accommodate for.

It is down to the supervisor but also Oxfam aren't always the best at every situation!
