There's no point in having a mind if you can't change it. We'd all do well to acknowledge when people do it for the better. ☺️

    Ben

    Long live the open minded!

  2. Longtime Frank Turner fan here. I totally get why people dislike him. Sometimes his stuff can feel needlessly preachy and he comes from an extremely privileged background which some argue doesn't give him the perspective he thinks. And those quotes are, as people have pointed out, absolute horseshit.

I will add that more recently he has played Thatcher f**ked The Kids live again and opened it with a speech about how it's about time we get the Tory party out, and he once spoke on a podcast about how his parents raised him conservative and in the last ten years or so he's had to talk them the other way round. And I believe after the last election he posted something about how frustrated he was with the result.

I'd like to think he's matured in the last ten years. He's far from perfect, for sure, and has some absolute misses of songs. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt but totally understand why many wouldn't

Is that stated somewhere, or an assumption?

He doesn't mention either way on his social media.

I think whenever the band are playing they're mentioned. I'd guess he's playing a main stage set with the band in addition to this (and an inevitable Strummerville performance!)

Are we thinking Shania and Avril are going to clash 🙈

Think Janelle and Avril clashing is much more likely, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely!

I would say it’s your 40s they will start to appear, I’m 43 and this is the most acts I’ve ever had an interest in seeing

Well I'm excited for The Vaccines' sub headline set in there in 2039!

    All looks plausible! Except:

Bombay Bicycle Club are busy Saturday

Kneecap's tour dates say they're playing on Saturday

Also though it's possible with the slots you've done I think High Vis are more likely Friday than Saturday cause they're over in France Sunday, and Paloma Faith more likely Sunday than Saturday morning cause she's got a headline gig Friday evening.

    Superb! Thanks for this

  7. Here's an updated version! Brackets for acts not on the poster but we have some info that they're playing. Square brackets for guesses of acts who could play that slot.

I won two seated tickets for Elbow at the Motor point, Nottingham on Wednesday 15 May via the Labrokes Live website. If anyone would like them, they're yours for free. They're in my name and seemingly unable to be transferred but I'm told they don't ask for ID.

Would love these if they're available and somehow transferrable!

Franz Ferdinand replaced Babyshambles as The Park headliners in 2008 very last minute. Don't know if it was a proper secret set or that it was just so late in organising.

It was a secret set that got advertised via posters on site on the day iirc

  10. 2023 main stage acts missing from the first poster:

Pyramid: The Master Musicians of Joujouka, Maisie Peters, The Churnups, Rick Astley, The Bristol Reggae Orchestra and Windrush Choir, Sophie Ellis-Bextor (6 acts total including a TBA)

Other: Ben Howard, The Hives, Lightning Seeds, Krept & Konan, The Unthanks, The Lathums, Tom Grennan, Generation Sex, The Joy (who pulled out), Japanese Breakfast (also pulled out), The Teskey Brothers (replaced Slowthai, who was on the poster), Dermot Kennedy, Queens of the Stone Age (13 acts total)

West Holts: Star Feminine Band, Yaya Bey, ADG7, Louis Cole, Gabriels, Say She She, Kanda Bongo Man, Third World, Jacob Collier, Skinny Pelembe, Beth Orton, Black Country New Road, Speakers Corner Quartet, The Hu, Barrington Levy (15 total, although kind of irrelevant as we have the entire WH lineup this year)

Woodsies: The Sisters, Bru-C, Digga D, Pale Waves, Courteeners, TBA (Hozier), The Last Dinner Party, Wunderhorse, Working Men's Club, The Murder Capital, Shame, TBA (Rick Astley/Blossoms), The Love Buzz, CMAT, The Big Moon, Slowdive, Editors, Caroline Polachek (18 total including two TBAs)

Park: Adwaith, Alabaster Deplume, Los Bitchos, Billy Nomates, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Comet Is Coming, Max Richter, James Ford, Flohio, Jockstrap, Obongjayar, TBA (The Pretenders), John Francis Flynn, Gwenno, Charlotte Adigery, Viagra Boys (16 with one TBA)

Probably more indicative of last year having much fewer names on the poster, and with this year's poster having a stage breakdown we can probably expect less "big" names. But there's definitely potential for a few!

Yeah I think your WH placings are based off what I did a good while ago now, before the poster came out, with a couple of small amendments. It's a bit out of date now, I think this is looking more likely from the poster placings:

FRI: Jungle, Heilung, Danny Brown, Sugababes, Asha Puthli, Squid, Sofia Kourtesis, Alogte Oho & his Sounds of Joy

SAT: Jessie Ware, Masego, Black Pumas, Nitin Sawhney, Corinne Bailey Rae, Cymande, Balming Tiger, Dub Terror

SUN: Justice, Nia Archives, Brittany Howard, Jordan Rakei, Noname, Steel Pulse, Jalen Ngonda, Matthew Halsall

Yes! You're right! Will pop your new one in, that looks much better. Cheers!

    Bahh. That is bad news.

Been reading Dilla Time, by Dan Charnas, Amp was a huge figure in the life of J Dilla too. Best West Holts gig ever. Had everything.

I turned up to watch him at Greenpeace on Thursday in 2019 and couldn't actually find his set. Still got no idea if he turned up, but pretty sad I now can't say I saw him live. Anyone know what happened there?
