  1. 1. Black Country, New Road - For the first time 2. Squid - Bright Green Field 3. Black Midi - Cavalcade 4. Dry Cleaning - New Long Leg 5. Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend 6. Injury Reserve - By the Time I Get to Phoenix 7. Iceage - Seek Shelter 8. Shame - Drunk Tank Pink 9. Arlo Parks - Collapsed In Sunbeams 10. Mogwai - As The Love Continues Black Country, New Road have been my AOTY pretty much since I discovered them in February. It's no secret I think they're great and I'm looking forward to their new record in Feb 2022. I've racked up over 150 plays of the track Sunglasses in the past year and it's the most excited I've felt about a band ever. Not seen much love for the Injury Reserve or the Black Midi albums on here, although they're doing pretty well on other music boards. Maybe a slightly controversial opinion on here, but I thought the Wolf Alice album was consistently pretty good rather than having many stand out tracks. Not really any I'd really put in a SOTY list (though Last Man On Earth is great), but none that I can criticise really for being a weak point on the album. Great EPs from NewDad and The Lounge Society, also enjoyed the Yard Act one for what it was.
  2. Seen that King Gizzard (who were booked to headline the sounds tent in 2020), have a tour around Latitude. At the moment it's the UK tour without any UK dates. On mobile so can't attach, but they're in Ireland the weekend after. Don't see any reason they won't be back. Bit of an odd booking, but good to see nonetheless. Having them against Haim was a pretty wierd choice though, smallest Obelisk headliner vs an act that most of the Latitude demographic wouldn't know at all. If they're back, I'd be interested in seeing them, but I hope that they give them longer than an hour which seems the norm for tent headliners. They've got 18 albums for christ's sake! They should be given at least 1h 15 at a minimum, but I'm a bit doubtful that Latitude will change the timings for them.
  3. Florence booked to play some European festivals next year. If she's touring over here as well, she could end up at BST possibly, or here. I don't know if I can name a single act that matches the Latitude demographic more than Florence, it would be the perfect booking for them in my opinion. Possible Saturday headliner? I'm still convinced that it will be Lewis Capaldi on the Friday and that Haim will be back. It would be pretty odd for them to not have a typical "rock" headliner though looking at previous years. I'm not convinced Liam will be back either, even though he's touring. He's playing some huge dates and might not be interested in playing Latitude anymore.
  4. Not much that grabs my attention around headliner time, but during the day there'd be plenty to keep me occupied. I'd probably do something like: Libertines > The Big Moon > Arlo Parks > Dry Cleaning > Crowded House > Ed Sheeran > Kiwanuka > Lorde > Foals > TBD Wet Leg > Holly Humberstone > Kasabian > Black Country, New Road > Idles > Noel > Macca Sea Girls > Squid > Inhaler > Phoebe or Shame > Fontaines or Fender > TBD Some of these would probably clash, and if it was anything like this I'd be running between stages across the site the whole weekend.
  5. I think Reflektor is just as good as Neon Bible, and Disc 2 of Reflektor is just as good as The Suburbs. The flow and consistency of Disc 2 is great and I just wish they'd kept that style for Disc 1. The run of Porno - Afterlife - Supersymettry is amazing, and obviously the title track is fantastic. My ranking is: Funeral, Suburbs, Reflektor, Neon Bible, Everything Now Neon Bible feels like the left overs from Funeral. If Funeral is Kid A, then Neon Bible is Amnesiac, and as Radiohead have shown, the album of B-sides just isn't as good. Yeah Reflektor isn't perfect, but the change in style with a few songs that are top tier Arcade Fire more than makes up for its flaws. It's an 8/10.

    2021 New Music

These beautiful boys and girls just don't miss, and this looks to be one of the weaker songs on the album if anything. I wouldn't have picked this as the lead single to be honest. They've already scooped up my AOTY this year, and if the tracks on the new one are anything like the bootlegs of live versions I've been listening to on repeat, it's got the biggest shot at AOTY next year as well. Some of the new tracks remind me of Arcade Fire in the best way possible, and wouldn't look out of place on Funeral. They've got some great stuff coming, and Basketball Shoes is going to be their answer to Slint's, Good Morning, Captain. I think they're amazing, they were my first gig back and I've got tickets to seem them twice in December and might have to look at that Albert Hall date in April. I've pre ordered the signed record, even though I don't have a record player. I feel like it's going to be a classic, and a defining record in my life. Exciting times.
  7. Haven't been to enough gigs outside of Manchester to make a definite top three in the country but my top three for Manchester is: 1. Ritz 2. Apollo 3. Albert Hall The Sugarmill in Stoke also gets credit, but so do a lot of small venues anywhere really. But the Leeds Brudenell absolutely takes the cake. Only been there twice (only once in the actual main room) but I can affirmitavely say that it's the best venue I've been to, by quite a firm margin. It's a small independent venue done really really well. You can get a great view anywhere in the venue, and there's a really cosy atmosphere in there which is really special. There's a padded seated section at the back, so you could sit down and chill between the support and the main act. The toilets were pretty good and the sound in the venue is excellent, no real dead spots from what I've experienced. I don't drink, but with the amount of people drinking inside and outside (it operates as a pub as well) on a September evening with no sports event on I assume it's pretty reasonably priced. They seem to care about their customers having a good time, and aren't just in it for the money. It's awesome and shows how it's done, we need more venues like it.

    2022 Headliners

I always wonder with self-confirmations this early, was it a spur of the moment or did something prompt it? E.g. Was some final contract signed earlier today / this week to confirm she'll definitely be headlining the Friday? Or was it just a situation of, "fuck it, I'm bored, might just announce that I'm headlining Glastonbury and see what happens".
  9. A band that comes to mind that took a few albums to get much attention is Pulp. His 'n' Hers was their fourth. They'd been around for over a decade before they broke through and got into the general public's knowledge and then got big, very quickly.
  10. Strokes playing in Australia on the Saturday of Latitude. I think its safe to say they won't be playing unfortunately.
  11. Lewis Capaldi confirmed for TRNSMT, had already self-confirmed ages ago, but shows he's still down to play dates. He's got to be our Friday headliner for sure. Interesting to see The Strokes playing another UK festival. Was there anything to the 2019 rumour? Was it just plainly incorrect, or were they in discussions but then chose APE instead?
  12. Snow Patrol confirmed for Lytham Festival just under a month before Latitude. I think this makes them increasingly likely for a headline slot, or they could do that "Reworked" thing that they were scheduled to in 2020, but I think if they're on the festival circuit they'd do a normal headline slot. I'm going to stick with my guess of: Lewis Capaldi, Snow Patrol, Haim. If I had to hazard a guess at the sounds headliners I'd probably go: Fontaines D.C, Arlo Parks, Editors. Looking at Michael Kiwanuka's tour dates, I think he might be rebooked to play the same slot as 2020 (subbing Haim). He's in Italy the week before Latitude, and then in Edinburgh the week after Latitude. So playing here would fit nicely between the two.
  13. £45 for Strokes and Fontaines is an absolute steal in my book, when you pay upwards of £50 for an act at any sizeable arena. Slightly annoying how there's a golden circle style VIP section, but at-least it's only half of the front section I guess. They're going to have to put a lot of security between the two sections to prevent people from trying their luck and jumping over the barriers. I'll definitely be trying for tickets on this one, Strokes just over an hour away from Manchester is a rare occurrence. I also can't seem to find where it officially mentions that it's an exclusive show up north, and that they'll be playing in the south at some point? Only place I can find that briefly mentions it is an NME article. Was it just in a press release or was it stated elsewhere?
  14. Hoping for a Black Country, New Road win. I discovered them through this forum, in the album of the month vote, and they've quickly become my favourite band at the moment. I think their album is incredible and each track (only 6!) adds something special to the album with no real weak moments. It's definitely going to be my pick for AOTY, I don't see anything else coming anywhere close to knocking it off the top spot for me. It's a rare occurrence, but I'd give it a solid 10/10. They were also my first gig back post-lockdown, albeit socially distanced, and I managed to get tickets on the day of the gig through a fan Facebook group as it had been sold out for months. They were great and they're probably one of the only bands who literally do not say a single word to the audience for the entire performance, but they absolutely delivered and hearing live violin and sax a few metres in-front of you was really awesome. Their instrumentals are on-point and they are all super talented musicians. The lyrics (in my opinion 🙂) are genius and they never sound like they couldn't think of something so just put in a few filler lines. The track "Sunglasses" has become one of my favourite songs of all times and has one of my favourite verse of lyrics of all time, and according to last.fm I've played it 132 times just this year. I've got tickets to see them two more times this year, in Liverpool and my favourite venue in Manchester, The Ritz. They were booked to play the farm in 2020, and I'm sure they'll show up in some capacity next year. Their new stuff is sounding fantastic as well, and when Basketball Shoes comes out it's going to rock the foundations of alternative music. So stay tuned some time next year for one of the albums of the century, your not going to want to miss it.
  15. Has anyone managed to get the android app working? This is taking the piss, first of all not having the apps released on the same day and now not having it released on the day they said it was delayed to. Also, if pullouts are inevitable they better improve their communication as they've been pretty shit so far.
  16. I can't recommend Street Feast enough. They've been at a couple of festivals before e.g. Latitude but this is the first time they'll be at R/L. They're an organisation of food traders that do street food that are set up in various London markets. There's loads of different options and it almost guarantees they'll serve good quality food. They have to pass some sort of level to trade under the name, so you won't get any shitty undercooked beef burger from a dingy van from any of them. I highly recommend them and if it's anything like Latitude, you'll have loads of options to choose from that sell all sorts of different styles of fantastic food. https://www.streetfeast.com/
  17. Squid?!?!? Best act on the line-up by a margin. They were immense at Latitude. If you haven't listened to Bright Green Field your in for a treat. There's not many bands making music like Squid right now, they're something pretty special.
  18. They've got Street Feast this year, but it might be Reading only as they're a London based company. I really hope they're also at Leeds this year as it means the best food there won't be a meal deal from the Co-op.
  19. So, if Capaldi is nailed on for Friday. We've got a Saturday and Sunday slot to fill headliners wise. I've just seen Haim, who were playing on the Friday of 2020, have rescheduled their UK tour dates to July 2022 which conveniently ends on the Thursday of Latitude. Surely they've got a high chance of being there now? I'd take a guess and say that they'll be our Sunday headliner, with a traditional rock band on the Saturday. I'd guess a trio of: Lewis Capaldi, Snow Patrol, Haim Haim's tour dates: Haim, UK & Ireland tour dates rescheduled to summer 2022, Dublin Trinity College, 28 June (Summer Series) Leeds Millennium Square, 13 July Glasgow The SSE Hydro, 14 Manchester O2 Victoria Warehouse, 16 Manchester O2 Victoria Warehouse, 17 Nottingham Motorpoint Arena, 19 Cardiff Motorpoint Arena, 20 London The O2, 21 Latitude is 21st-24th July 2022

    2022 Headliners

It was an annoying move to open with Bad Guy when a lot of the crowd (including me) had come from Miley on the Pyramid and therefore missed the first 5-10 minutes of her set. I was then stood around a group of people who also seemed to be a clueless punter who'd just turned up to see what the hype was about and then waited 40 minutes for no Bad Guy which is the only song a lot of people knew going into the set.

    2022 Headliners

I don't the ship has completely sailed. There'd been rumours that they'd been booked for 2021 that started circulating around Dec 2019. They've had it as a goal for a while and had brought it up on Annie Mac's show in Jan 2020. And said that they were "busy" in 2020 but that it was one of the only things that they still wanted to achieve as a band and mentioned next year whilst looking pretty sheepish. About a month later, Emily then says that they'd got all three headliners pencilled in for 2021. I'm pretty convinced they were booked for 2021, but with a huge backlog of headliners they might have to wait a while, or accept an Other headline at some point, which I don't think they will. They haven't had a huge trajectory, but I'd see it as: First Album: Middle of Pyramid slot before Dolly Parton. Second Album: IIRC they turned down an Other headline slot, and played 3rd down instead. Third Album: Headlined R/L and by most accounts it went down well, arguably their peak. Fourth Album: Pencilled in to headline Glastonbury Kasabian took 4 albums to headline Glastonbury and don't really fit into one of the categories, so I still think it's possible for them to comeback and headline at some point. I think their trajectory has just halted, and could either continue rising post-covid, or it could see them fall into the Foals / Biffy Clyro category. I don't think that's happened just yet though.
  22. I'd take that line-up in a heartbeat. If I'm being honest, 2020's line-up wasn't my favourite and I'd probably put it as the weakest since 2015 for my music taste. But that line-up would rival 2016, and maybe even beat it for me. Fri: Kiwanuka > Mogwai > Arlo Parks > Shame > Black Midi > Dry Cleaning Sat: Macca > Lorde > Fontaines D.C. > Crowded House > Metronomy > Black Country, New Road Sun: Elton > The Smile / Primal Scream > Phoebe Bridgers > Diana Ross > Sports Team > Iceage > Squid If it looked something like that, it would be pretty good compensation in my opinion for two cancelled festivals.

My best guess at the moment is either: Billie, Macca, Elton or Billie, Elton, some generic UK band: e.g. Muse, Coldplay, Arctics
