The whole thing sounds like a really unfortunate situation. The insightful comments above about how it unfolded, and the link to the previous shows, is really interesting - as soon as the set started, and it became clear just how intricate and theatrical it was, I figured there'd be a big problem at the end - it had clearly been choreographed extensively, and I suspect they just weren't able, on the fly, to cut things out and have it still work correctly. In the context of everything we saw on stage, I can totally believe that there was a set-up for Bartender that required her hair to be done in a very specific way.

Obviously, would have been ideal for the audience if Lana was the sort of artist who could just roll with it and adapt, but it doesn't surprise me that she isn't. She's been criticised (rightly, from my own experience) before for being underwhelming live, and the hour that she did play completely surpassed all my expectations because of how much more effort had clearly gone into it. But the problem with that, presumably, was that she and her crew needed it all to happen in a very specific way, and unfortunately, that didn't quite work out.

Glastonbury were totally within their rights to enforce the curfew (chaos would soon ensue if it became apparent that any headliner of any stage can just blast through the curfew without issue, and Lana presumably had upwards of 30 minutes still to go...), but I also think it's probably not quite fair to totally dismiss her lateness as just her being a diva. In hindsight, it was obviously the wrong call to just not come out and start, but in the pressure of the moment, I can see how how what seems like an easy decision to us is a much harder for one for an artist who obviously isn't the most comfortable on that kind of stage.

You might say she shouldn't accept that kind of booking, and I get that, but in comparison to her 2016 performances (I saw her at Sziget), it seemed to me like she and her team really had tried to make it a substantially better show.

Out of upvotes but this is exactly what I was trying to say just way more eloquent. I hope that UK fans will get to see the whole performance at BST and personally I'm definitely planning to be there for that.

You make some good points, but I think you touch on the issue there - it's not about misogyny so much as it's about production version music. Yes, the hair is an important part of the "show" but generally this place is full of older punters who don't really care so much about the stage show as they do the music. It'd be more akin to Elton refusing to go on if the fireworks weren't ready and working for the first song.

We'd all be saying the same stuff: just go on and play the bloody song. Yeah, it's a shame the pyros aren't working but you make do.

It's certainly a bias many here hold (and it's encapsulated by how much this forum generally hates Muse, who are one of the very few male-fronted rock bands who openly put more into the stage than the music...) but I don't think it's misogyny.

This may well be true. And my view of some of the negative comments may be skewed by the b word dropped earlier in this thread.

Lana has been criticised for her live shows through her whole career and it's clear she worked hard on improving that. It's a massive shame it all went down they way it did. Glad to see she still got very positive reviews outside of this forum and even by some on here.

One of my all-time favourite sets at Glastonbury. They were on top, top form and managed to breeze straight down the front for the most incredible view, sound and experience. Watched 30 mins of Elton on TV earlier and as a great as he sounded, I'm certain I made the right personal choice.

Was 'triffic to finally hear one of my favourites off Songs for the Deaf too in God is in the Radio. Such a killer tune.

Really looking forward to the O2 show later this year. image.thumb.png.47a13de147c69a4f7203c488f081d83c.png

Almost lost my sh*t when they started playing God is on the radio. Had low hopes of hearing that and as it is one of my favourite songs by them that was just a cherry on top of the best show of the weekend. Normally have to fight through the crowds or enjoy from the back but this time like most fans here was able to see them from up close surrounded by people who clearly knew all the songs and vibing hard. Thank you Elton John!

  4. I wasn't going to engage in this discussion but it really took a turn. I was one of the big fans in the crowd and this performance was going to by my highlight and still was.

Whoever thinks that the hair stylist not being there on time was a trivial reason for delay clearly has not seen her full performance from Brazil. The hairdo bit is a big part of the production of her show and I am sure her hair needs to be done in a very specific way so no, she could not have had it done by any other stylist on site. The part when she's sitting in front of the dresser singing Bartender and her dancers undoing her hair is an intentional and rehearsed part of the show and cutting it out would be in a way compromising the artistic value of the performance. I feel like she wanted to deliver her show exactly as intended and it's very sad and upsetting that she was not able to do that. Would be worth knowing why the screw up with the stylist happened in the first place because if it was something from the festival side not issuing necessary passes then you can really see why Lana's crew got pissed off in the first place. I'm not condoning this behaviour as I do believe it's unprofessional but just pointing out that there are surely two sides to that story.

With that being said I support the festival in enforcing the curfew, as sad as it was. Rules are there for a reason and I wish Lana and her team were flexible enough to adjust the show and cut some lesser known songs to fit the timeframe but that's sadly not something they were capable of doing. The lack of experience in touring clearly played part.

What I really don't like is the misogynistic undertone of some of the comments on here. It's made out to be as she's a just a diva with her diva demands and silly girl hair problems. Yes, it was all very unfortunate but to suggest that Lana doesn't care for her fans is just ludicrous. She's clearly not an easiest artist to work with but surely she's not the only one and people working in this industry must be prepared to deal with all kinds of situations and behaviour. Glastonbury dealt with it the best way they could and that's that.

Hoping the show will show up on iPlayer at some point cause I still think it was epic! Just not as much for the more casual festival goers who chose that as their headline and were there for the big hits...

Pylon was rammed last year on the Thursday morning. Going to have to pack lighter if on the coach as it looks like it’s going to be a long walk. Such a strange decision closing that field, doesn’t make any sense to me. Surely having accessible camping would encourage people to travel by coach.

Baffles me! I reckon Darble will be rammed this year because of it. And I hate camping on slopes so I have no choice but to pack light and hike all the way to Back House ur Rigs Field

  6. This will be Glastonbury number 7 for me after I managed to bag a couple of coach tickets for me and my other half in resale for Thursday 2pm departure from London.

I wouldn't dare to complain, I am obviously over the moon, but the timing will be tricky as I am not going with any group this year so will be faced with finding a spot to pitch the tent around 7-8pm on Thursday. I would normally arrive before gates open and head straight for Oxlyers but since that's not an option I wonder if anyone on here could tell me which of the further out campsites are still not full up around that time?

Bit annoying about the Pylon ground as that takes a massive space out of equation for Gate A arrivals and I am sure I will have to trek much further to find a spot. Of course I'm planning to consult the stewards as I arrive and follow the advice but it would give me some peace of mind if I had an idea of what's realistic at that time?

Is Hitching Hill a popular choice these days? It used to be very quiet when my friends camped there back in 2015 but I have a feeling it might have changed. I'm guessing no chance for Bushy or Dairy so preparing myself for a long long trek to Back House/Baileys but I'd love to hear some first hand experiences from people who camped there in the past. How busy by late Thursday evening? Really hoping to have the tent up before sun sets!

Oh, I have a Vango Apollo 500 so looking for roughly 3x4m free space.

Thanks in advance for any responses x

I get that but if they have social media clout they would also effectively have to dox themselves to do this as everyone would have their postcode

But then you can register with fake post code and change it to the real one before tickets are shipped...

So yeah, while I appreciate why the payment step as been removed, I feel like as a lone wolf your chances have diminished massively with this system.

It's like being able to afford one lottery ticket versus someone else who can afford one thousand.

And I actually did manage to book my ticket on Thursday by miracle but I will enjoy this festival to the fullest as it may well be my last one for a long long time.

Or I may just start aggressively gathering social media followers before October...

  9. My sister and boyfriend arrived on coach from London and were in the queue by PGA before 7am.

It took over 3 hours to get through the gates with ZERO access to water. They ended up straight in the medical tent once in with heat exhaustion and dehydration. A bit rubbish really for the festival to allow that to happen. It's never been like that before and I've been coming in on Wednesdays in 2017 and 2019.

Hope it's straight in now for everyone who's arriving. Definitely make sure you have plenty of water with you!

  10. I rarely post on here but this I feel particularly strongly about.

How come we are even debating this at all? Back in February in light of the events in Ukraine we have made a decision to exclude Russia and all of its imports (as much as possible and viable at the time) from benefiting from participation in Western world. This is a conscious effort, as a part of bigger sanctions package, to put pressure on Russian society to stand up to their deranged leaders. Nothing has changed, we are still on that path. I don't remember anyone questioning this when RF got kicked out of Olympics, the World Cup or even Eurovision. How is Glastonbury different?

For me this is an obvious lapse of judgment form the festival or possibly ignorance - I don't know. Unless an artist is prepared to speak up against the atrocities of this war, they should not be welcomed here.

  11. Worked through all the stages of grief since that gloomy morning in October 2019. I even went back to lurking on this forum to silently cheer for people who had tickets lately. That's how settled in my acceptance of not going I was. And then on Thursday the Refresh button muscle memory kicked in. Coach from London sorted for me and my friend and today I got through in the added time for the remaining two in the group. Still pinching myself!

  12. I am literally crying right now... Missed out on Glasto tickets for the first time in years and that didn't even sting half as much. Gutted is an understatement! Cannot believe my absolute favourite band is playing 10 minutes away from my home and I will not be there.

Also know it's a long shot but if anyone who was lucky enough to bag a ticket (but, like, how..?!!!), but cannot make it, would like to sell - it would mean the world to me.

  13. Hi there, I’m a little desperate here and looking for some advice. My friend arrived from oversees last night and she had her ticket delivered to her mum’s. Unfortunately looks like the ticket has been lost somewhere in the house. She’s been looking for hours and no luck. It there anyway whatsoever of getting in? She has got her Id and a photo of the ticket on her phone (mum sent it to her when it arrived). I know that Seetickets day they do not replace lost tickets that have been delivered but... Is there any contact info for anyone at Glastonbury offices that could possibly help? Anyone had experience with that? I will appreciate any advice as she is obviously devastated.
