  1. We were 6 of us there last year and i’d say you could even fit 8 there. 6 is the max to feel comfortable, to have some extra space for bags etc.

we didn’t try but you could bring people in during daytime if i remember correctly. You can not get extra people to sleep if that’s what you mean, unless there’s a tipi with less people and willing to give you their wristband. We are 5 this year so i might have one extra……..

We did actually measure them knowing someone will ask but of course i can’t find it anymore. I did make a picture tho:

Cranes take up crowd space and viewpoints. There were drones flying overhead at Main and Outdoor Theatre. The Sahara had a fly cam for overheads. Just depended on what you watched. Check the youtubr clips. If you want audience reaction the first 10 seconds in dominic fikes clip had a girl openly sobbing and they would keep cutting back to her. Or the deafening screams from Labrinth with Billie/Zendaya? Sonora Tent clips likely wouldve been the ones that mightve captured the energy you might feel is lacking since they had one person in the mosh pits/crowd.

All i see are people having fun. Thing is everyone who goes to weekend 2 gets more excited about what happened weekend 1 cause they personally think the crowds arent going as crazy or anything so they go harder.

    That drone shot is amazing.

You’re right it depends what I watched. I remember being slightly frustrated at Charli XCX, Yungblud and Gorillaz. I enjoyed your example of Nia Archives, thought that worked well. Smaller size of the venue helped a lot I think. In reality it was much larger than it seemed? 😄

This Sofi Tukker example kind of shows what my issue was - you can clearly see that crowd going off and having a great time but it somehow feels like they’re unable to get a good angle of them. They’re never the main thing in the frame unless it’s a close-up of a few people.

Showing the back of the artist / the stage with back of the audience is not a crowd shot.. or at least it’s not something i’m so desperate about here. But i completely understand that’s my personal matter.

  3. I did occasionally watch the stream and found some things odd. The way they chose to direct it was them not involving much from the audience. Audience audio mix was really lacking at times and what really surprised me was them almost not showing the audience at all, most notably there were no crane cameras being used which usually gets great audience shots.

For me personally a great live footage includes the atmosphere - a connection between the artist and their audience. I think BBC manages to capture this really well. BBC showing Glastonbury always makes me want to be there, but footage of Coachella did not, even if bands themselves were giving great performances.

I had the same issue with 2022 Coachella stream. People in Coachella subreddit are praising the stream, so I guess I'm in minority.

I have a feeling that we won't get Elrow this year at Sziget, in previous years Elrow was at BalatonSound for the whole festival, and now they (balatonsound) announced the timetable and there is no Elrow anywhere 😬

Elrow has been great, that would be a huge miss… the only thing that really dragged me to Party Arena…

and i had my first ever crowd surfing experience there last year… good times…

    oh well…

Reasons I don’t like living in Hungary under the current regime, number 484188. Pointless threats towards the festival again.

“Sziget could easily cease to exist if we, at the (newly created) cultural committee decide that we won’t allow any festivals to take place at the part of Hajógyári Island that now belongs to us.”

“If I would get really tense I could say that since it’s not owned by Hungarians anymore that means we’re not interested in keeping Sziget Festival alive. Of course, we can’t think like that, because the cultural value of this festival is much more important than what I’d like to do with the island.”

“I sat down with Tamás Kádár (CEO of Sziget) and told him that from now on we’re not allowing 30-year-long contracts but a one year contract that can be renewed annually, when we can discuss who’s doing what, when and where (…).”

It’s probably nothing and won’t have any consequences, I’m just sick of these clowns threatening everyone all the time. A friendly reminder that it only takes a second for them to abolish anything good.

    Great content!

Can you tell us more about this? What is this newly created cultural committee and why does part of the island now belong to them?

What do you think is the real motivation of this committee for making such comments?

Is the economic impact of the festival known among locals? I imagine great tax revenue, larger incomes for local businesses around the city and great advertisement for Budapest/Hungary overall.  How much has the organization of Sziget tried to publicly defend themselves through these points?

How much (if any?) negativity does Sziget get locally considering the festival being very LGBT friendly?

Heading to Glastonbury from Australia for the first time... I assume they don't post the tickets all the way here? If not, do they notify you to pick them up from the box office?

How did you get the sent to a friends address instead?

The system clearly said last time that my tickets are to be collected from the box office, as I was an international customer. This time it does not say anything about this so I'm assuming I'm getting them sent to me. (I live in Europe)

I just contacted See Tickets customer support last time and they changed it to my friends address.

  7. We were able to change box office collection to our friends address who lives in London (traveled through London). It was a good plan but out of 6 tickets only one arrived at his place so we still had to go through box office..

This time we rented a car so I'm really hoping we don't have to circle to gate A and we get get tickets some other way..

  8. I don't know, I guess it's above avarege set of headliners and the issue is maybe in me. Definitely feels like I've been going to too many festivals and there's not much headliners left who would feel new and unique to me.. But I do have to say that this is going to be my 8th Sziget and this is going to be 4th time Macklemore performs at the festival. That's a good statistic to reflect my disappointment.

Then again if you look at Sziget's festival evaluations https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WCWEgRvJck8QFfT8AASyW2NwlrEGPebI/view

Very interesting numbers there, most importantly, only 25% of their visitors are returning. So who cares if I'm seeing Macklemore for 4th time? With my 8th time I'm probably 2-3% of people.

75% of their clients buy tickets for the festival itself (including me)

What's really interesting there is that 57% of their visitors come with daily tickets, 25% of them with 6-day tickets and 11% with 3-day tickets. For me this proves the need for bigger names to keep selling daily tickets.

Plus it does not make a lot of sense to me that if 75% of people come for the festival itself, 57% of them buy only a daily ticket?

  9. tbh i would put the whole poster in alphabetical order, including headliners. Would be fair to all and might even get a bit more attention to smaller names. It’s not like they need to sell tickets and need a poster with big names standing out.

Someone took into account the survey feedback 😉

    Oh that’s great!

The fact that people could pitch their idea and even ask for a budget brought some great out of box visuals to the festival. My group of friends have an idea and would apply if Art of Freedom really comes back!

When was that? This year? I know Timothy Chalamet was there watching Rufus Du Sol this year.

It was 2017 if i remember correctly.
Yeah I do remember someone talking about Timothy now that you’re mentioning it. Kutcher/Kunis case was something similar - they just saw a few acts and disappeared….

  12. I just can’t see a DJ / producer headlining with a DJ set… ever. No matter how big they are. This is really common at other festivals.  Chemical Brothers are playing live, even tho i doubt it has made a difference to audience. If i look at past electronic headliners (incl. smaller main stages) there’s a clear difference between who’s been chosen and who is not -  with a few exceptions they’ve never been DJ sets. There’s a reason why Calvin Harris played Arcadia and Bicep West Holts. The way they perform electronic music is totally different.

searching fred again festival shows on youtube… that’s a hard one - he’s somewhere in between - i guess he could do it. 🙂 he is mostly playing his own music instead of mixing different stuff together for a good party. And he’s not alone - it’s almost like band! Yup he could do it 100%.

Was the piano bar even there this year?

Anyway went through Saturday lunchtime was lovely and pleasant and quite quiet.

it was there. Checked my phone - i came from the piano bar Monday morning (5.46) and made a video at the circle, here’s a screenshot to show the atmosphere.

  14. Yeah, I did go see every headliner last year,  but this year so far only Florence. I've seen Billie two times at Glasto, both left me disappointed. Undercard is really strong for my taste so luckily there seems to be plenty of alternatives.

And can't believe they changed a day for her BUT still fucked up her name in the announcement? lol.
