Need to focus my research on Sat day time as there are a good few names there i don't know.

Saturday for me will look like this: Ichiko Aoba > Donny Benét > Minyo Crusaders > Lemondaze > Blue Bendy > Mdou Moctar > Deathcrash > Aleg G > Arooj Aftab > TORRES > Beach House > Bicep > Optimo

As @benali has already said, Ichiko Aoba will be an incredibly beautiful set.  I am a little bit worried about how she will fare on such a big stage as I am presuming she will not be bringing an orchestra with her (like she sometimes does for her own shows) and it will instead just be her.  However, she is incredibly talented and has an unbelievably beautiful voice so I expect it will still be extremely good.

Donny Benét is an Aussie bloke making sleazy/cheesy post-disco bangers.  Might not be your thing but i think he'll be a lot of fun!  Was hoping he'd be after dark on the Walled Garden as I think people would be more up for it then but should still be good.

Minyo Crusaders are a 10-piece Japanese group doing traditional Japanese music but heavily influenced by non-Japanese musical sounds like afro-funk, reggae, ethio-kazz, bolero etc. There's a really good recording online of their set at Le Guess Who? from a few years ago, which I would definitely recommend.

Lemondaze are a very good shoegaze band.  They supported Ride this year and if you're into Ride/Slowdive then you'll probably enjoy them.

Mdou Moctar is a musician from Niger who plays guitar-led blues/rock/psychedelic stuff.  He's a very talented guitarist and will play with a full band.  Will be a lot of fun, I'm sure.

  2. Thank you to @SweepingTheNation for updating the Clashfinder.  I've made some very minor amendments based on some comments i've seen from GM and other artists, as follows:

    • Bicep overlap with Beach House by 15 mins
    • No/minimal clash between Low and Dry Cleaning
    • It's possible to see some of Cate Le Bon and Kraftwerk (i.e. not a full on clash - MK and PC is a full on clash)
    • WITCH and Orchestra Baobab don't clash
    • Cassandra Jenkins and Kelly Forsyth do clash (😭)
    • Adwaith and Metronomy don't clash, but Metronomy do clash with Pip Blom (and it's full on clash)
    • Scalping confirmed for 1 am

I've added the Rising competition artists who I think will all play Rising at some point (thought the days/times will probably need to change).

I think there are some gaps to be filled on Mountain Stage and FO on Sunday.  GM have said there are a couple more acts to be announced - I wonder if there will be any surprises...

  3. Hello everyone!!  Took a bit of break from efests when all that stuff was happening a while back but I am all good and as anyone who has been on the discord will know have continued to be obsessive about all things GM.

Firstly, how bloody good is this line up!?! I am SO excited.

Secondly, I will have a little tinker with the Clashfinder over the weekend as GM have been quite vocal about certain clashes. I’ll continue to update it as we go and will keep an eye out for the exact stage times when settlers start arriving (looking at @benali in particular!).

Thirdly, hope everyone has an amazing time at the festival!  If you see anyone running through the camp in the morning with trekking poles looking like a lunatic that will be me (I’m training for an mountain ultramarathon at the moment) so please do heckle me!

  4. Stand outs for me so far this year have been Ants From Up There (BCNR) and Classic Objects (Jenny Hval).

In the next tier are: Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You (Big Thief), caroline (caroline), Topical Dancer (Charlotte Adigery & Bolis Pupil), our hope (Hitsujibungaku), Once Twice Melody (Beach House), Unspoken Words (Max Cooper), Giving The World Away (Hatchie), Pompeii (Cate Le Bon), Return (deathcrash), Ghost Song (Cecile Mclorin Salvant), You Belong There (Daniel Rosen), Marchita (Silvana Estrada), Emotional Eternal (Melody’s Echo Chamber) and SIM SIM SIM (Bala Desejo).

Just seen Viagra Boys, was a great show. Looked at the clashfinder though and... afternoon on the mountain stage doesn't sound right for them. Feel like they'd suit the Far Out tent more

Yeah you are probably right.  I agree that they are more of a Far Out type band.  I was probably struggling for room when I did it.

They did once have Fat White Family on the Mountain Stage which made me think it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.

Do we have any news regarding who Bicep may be up against? I'm planning on swerving them at Glastonbury so am trusting I'll catch them second time lucky!

Not really.  I think the only thing we know for certain is that they won’t clash with Kraftwerk, given that Kraftwerk are at APE on Saturday and Bicep are playing GM on Saturday (according to their website).

The most likely scenario seems to be that they will headline the Far Out stage against Michael Kiwanuka or Beach House (I think Michael Kiwanuka makes the most sense).

Smaller/weirder acts generally get added over time, it's usually quite a full lineup but with lots of stuff you'll have never heard of. They usually do a second announcement in early summer and then full lineup comes September-ish.

It sold out late summer last time, but as ever with festivals nowadays you can pick up stuff on resale. There's day tickets as well.

    Thank you, very helpful.

This is probably a very stupid question but it’s not camping is it?  And the venues are all indoor?  I guess people usually just stay in Utrecht somewhere?

  8. I really need to go to this festival.  A couple of questions:

    - Does it sell out quite quickly?

    - Do we have a sense of whether this is most of the acts or will there be a lot more?

Great things that stand out to me on first glance: Mabe Fratti, Wau Wau Collectif, Moor Mother/Billy Woods, dreamcrusher, Animal Collective, clipping., Upsammy, Low, Keely Forsyth, Habibi Funk DJ, The Staples Jr. Singers, Jeff Parker, Laurel Halo, Abdullah Ibrahim, Myriam Gendron and Marina Herlop.

    Ouch.

They played it at EOTR last summer. Remember it from then because of the chorus. I really like it.

Sorry 😞. I was just about ready to call them the best band on the planet and was hoping to love it.  But came away disappointed.  Maybe it’ll be a grower!

Crack Cloud are back, and as brilliant as ever.

    New album 1st August.

I love Crack Cloud but I think I hate this

Ah so they didn't listen to the complaints about Moth Club/Bad Vibrations sound bleed at all then? That's good.

They’ve said that the stages are slightly further apart this year and that they’ve adjusted the stage times.  Hopefully that should reduce the sound bleed issues.

Hmm, I wonder why 2019 was so late compared with previous years? Let's hope we get them in the next few weeks!

I don’t think we ever got to the bottom of what happened exactly but there was some speculation I think that they had a headliner to announce that fell through and then had to re-jig the line up slightly.  Yo La Tengo ended up headlining the Friday night but were never announced as headliners initially unlike Four Tet and FJM.  Someone may be able to offer more details…

Pretty obsessed with this Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul record - just banger after banger! Would be perfect in Far Out late at night.

Yeah I love it!  One of my favourite records of the year for sure.  I can see them headlining Walled Garden one evening but I would definitely prefer them to be an After Dark act as then any clashes are much less likely to be an issue.

I think the first slot though have generally been acts with a WTF element to them - International Teachers of Pop, audiobooks, Wet Leg? Perhaps Melyn Melin (or Mermaid Chunky if they're added?!) would fit that?

My money was on KEG before they confirmed they were on Sunday.  Melyn Melin is a good shout.  Could also see Umlauts, English Teacher or Papur Wal doing it.

I think Unschooling are pretty good.  NYE is excellent I think.  Interested to hear your thoughts on them live.  There was a French post-punk (sort of) band announced for the 2020 line up called Corridor that I really like and was disappointed not to see them added for this year - hopefully next year!

The chat went "we're playing Thursday on the second biggest stage after Honeyglaze".

I presume that is Far Out, although complicated by the fact that's not the second biggest stage on the Thursday?

The guy I spoke to seemed very excited when I told him the main stage isn't open on the Thursday so they should have a massive crowd.

Yes that is frustratingly complicated haha.  My guess would be Far Out as well.  Honeyglaze played Walled Garden last right? So I think they would be bumped up to Far Out, maybe first or second on?  With Mandrake Handshake to follow.

Thursday has Honeyglaze, then Mandrake Handshake. Pip Blom are also playing on Thursday.

Just seen Mandrake Handshake play live. They are the absolute perfect festival band and will go down so well. I highly recommend everyone goes to see them.

Ahh good intel, thanks!  Do you know that Mandrake Handshake are on after Honeyglaze or just a guess??

Really looking forward to Mandrake Handshake. Listened to them a lot last year as they were at Wide Awake but think they must have clashed with someone as managed to miss them.

That Friday evening looks tasty! Mdou Moctar -> WITCH -> Jenny Hval -> A bit of Cassandra Jenkins -> Low

Not too many clashes on there for me either - can you please send this to the organisers and save them a job? 😄

Yes Friday is my favourite as well!  But terrible clashes with Cate Le Bon, Kelly Forsyth and Beach House as well!!  Obviously it’s going to look totally different but it’s still working me up!

Alex g and Ezra clashing would be gutting, makes sense though as they're very different.

My guess is that Ezra is on the Sunday because they have a show in the US on the Wednesday before GM and a show in Scotland on the Tuesday following the festival.  So i would think Sunday would be ideal.  I believe Ezra played FO last time they were at GM so that’s why I put them on the main stage for this year. I think Alex G will be high up on the FO stage - either Saturday or Sunday.
