Anne Marie into Tame Impala is not that strange, both are on the radio at least. Far stranger things have happened.

Parkway Drive into The Lumineers into Last Shadow Puppets into Hardwell, last day 2016 - I still laugh thinking about it

  2. Actually bummed out by Anne Marie subbing Tame Impala. It feels like Foals are further away now, and even if they were actually subbing Dua Lipa, that would be a sad match, being that first rows will be crowded with people being there since early morning waiting ONLY for Dua Lipa, same as happened many times before for pop headliners.

If they’ve already paid for flights they may as well come and just enjoy Budapest. It’s a terrific place to spend a week in summer regardless, & they could just see how they get on with the festival and do bits of it or find they get into it once they are there.

Do boat trips on the river, visit some ruin pubs, tour the city, go to the spa pools -  on the island next door and there’s a brilliant pool spa centre with a restaurant & bar - just swim & drink in the sunshine.

Absolutely no point in not going as Hungary is pretty cheap once you’re there.

Eh except that prices are awfully inflated during that period (still cheap for most of western europe standards, tho) and the heat is almost unbearable.

Hungary and Budapest are really beautiful, but August is actually an awful period to be there, if festival is not involved, and the Ukrainian situation now does not really improve the selling points.

Robbie Williams and Duffy cannot even be compared hahaha

LMAO you better read carefully tho.

I said that having Duffy as sub-head (19.30), being a weak name as she is, would imply the kind of day that D1 2015 had (with Robbie Williams headliner and less than nothing for the rest of the day).

Idles would be good, although they played in 2019.

Can't remember when and if I recall correctly, but I recall that Idles won't be at Sziget 2022

If he's touring he will play, I would imagine subbing for the headliners.

Now it's down to 6 days, ezra would be weak.

I bet two beers that he won't be any higher than a 17.45 slot on Main Stage, in case!

Well, she won 3 BRIT Awards and a Grammy in 2009. I think she might go on tour and she would have a chance for at least an A38 headline / 19:30 Main Stage slot if she comes back with a well received new album in the first half of 2022.

An A38 head spot is more likely, or even the spot before that clashes with MS headliner - 19.30 main stage is way way more important as a spot and that would define either a one-trick-pony kind of day (think Robbie Williams, 2015) or an overall weak day (think Galantis 2017).

Don't say 'even George Ezra', he is miles more likely to headline than fucking Duffy. Not the most inspired artist but he's a big name and modern

NOBODY. gives. a. rat's. ass. about. George. Ezra. in. mainland. europe.

Merry Christmas, folks! Hopefully Sziget will bring us some surprizes next year and that corona won't cancel another edition.

I was wondering these days about the chances of having a Sziget headliner an act that was on a hiatus for some years. Take for example Duffy. She's been on a hiatus for 10 years, but she released a song this year on her instagram account. Would she big enough to be one of the Sziget headliners?

Which other acts could potentially announce a comeback next year?

Had to google the name, althought that reminded me of something. Wouldn't be a benchmark, if the singer's prime time was in the early '10.

I guess thatnunless the coming back from the hiatus is somehow a breakthrough in the genre or the band/singer is not an iconic anthem-maker generation-marker one (My Chemical Romance or RATM are the firsts I think about), then I wouldn't give much of a chance.

But wouldn't Megan Thee Stallion be a more inspired booking than Arctic Monkeys who just played there in 2018 and Kings Of Leon who basically play every festival season and still rely on two hits they've had in 2009?

Indeed, the point is that I can postpone Kings of Leon or Arctic Monkeys (and both have more than a few bangers in their average setlist, but they are unbelievably flat live shows) until the rest of the headliners are somehow fresh or brings something of value worth to be attended.

Megan Thee Stallion, might be the first woman rapper in Houston, but that hardly amounts to anything that matters to me - wanna book a rap artist? Cool! But bring someone with a good show or, if really that cannot be done, just waste money on some real exclusive name (the genre allows this kind of thinking) - like Eminem, for an instance.

  8. Ah yeah... Megan Thee Stallion, you mean Rap Nicki Minaj...

Gotta say, would not be surprised with the booking - but it would surely be the last nail in the "less ispired set of headliners we ever got (aside 2017, of course)" coffin .

On a side note, I just had an Error 500 recharging this page - I really hope the servers are stable, this month without the forum has been a pain for my breaks at work

    BMTH or Liam Gallagher

    NIck Cave

    Garrix

    Liam

    pop headliner

It would be the weakest set of headliners I've ever witnessed... I understand that Pop and Hip Hop heads might be big-BIG, but uh, the rock names would be underwhelming.

Plus, and I speak as a non-UK attendant, neither BMTH or Liam Gallagher have any appetibility as headliner - not even in a co-head scenario. For what I can recall, they never headed any non-british major fest, also.

Kings Of Leon - Dua Lipa - Calvin Harris - The Strokes - Muse - Imagine Dragons - Eminem (Still hoping... He would've been there in 2020?) @Sziget2021_Leakscan confirm this maybe? 💔

Furthermore, Stormzy is out I think due to the shows this year. Count The Killers, Alt-J, Royal Blood, Editors, The War On Drugs for next year as sub I guess.

    The Killers... sub?

Someone has helpfully done a comparison job

    2019:

    65/67/70 acts
    And in big font 25/27/27

    This year:

    55/55/54 acts
    And in big font 21/21/19

Lots of new names still to come...

Mh, I don't want to look too much into this statistic, though.

Everytime a situation like this one occours to a festival, everybody goes Rambo with the wildest speculations (i.e. "what if they add a new headliner, there are 3-3-4 in the firse w/e, gotta be 2 more heads") and then we end up with some middle-tier names at best and a handful of nobodies - which is reasonable tbh.

There will be no more headliner for sure, they would have pointed that out otherwise - also it is not PS modus operandi to tease an headliner, the whole ticket comes out together for a reason.

Just quickly wanna add that the IOW organizer misses the point completely. Sure, they could pull it  off with their regular small number of boring British acts on an island in a country with admirable vaccination progress. The point is, everyone else cant. But since the Covid discussion is apparently stuck in an infinite loop, we might as well start discussing bands again.

I Can't believe noone has yet mentioned that Modest Mouse are coming to Europe in November, which sounds like a new Album, which would make them a strong likelihood for PS22

IoW is English-centric and English-based. Really never met a non-UK attender.

About Modest Mouse, holy smokes, I knew nothing... I guess that two years off the circuit really had some effects on me

I'm not saying the decision can be made 3 weeks before but perhaps 6 months before is too conservative...

It depends. IMO the current sentiment is conservative and hence correct: I'd rather be at peace in february and hold my horses til september / 2022, rather than be hopeful until april and then die inside once again: it is more healthy.

This being said, I believe that the current mood is the most responsible attitude some festivals can show: just lay low, do nothing but remember the audience you are still standing and that's it - no hype, no false hope and stuff.

Maybe the festival doesn't have to decide in March and can wait much longer to decide on whether to go ahead than everyone seems to think (and IoW is a camping festival, which is perhaps even more complicated...).

Those ain't the 80s, you won't move 40k people from all Europe with 3 weeks in advance, hell. This applies even more for non-camping festivals!

I've read somewhere that needed rate of global vaccinated population which is 70% won't happen until 2025.

70% of the world is hellalot people from very different cultural and social strata. I think there is no vaccine that has been spread that fast. I mean, polio was a way worse illness and it almost took 60 years to eradicate it - 7 years for the first country in the world to eradicate it (and it was Czechoslovakia with 15 millionish people only).

Plus, covid - being a coronavirus - with its rate of mutation might never allow an accomplishment such as 70% of vaccinated pop ever: most likely it will mutate many many times until it becomes no more than a common influence.

Just hope that by 2022-23, when at least in Europe it will be considered safer to have large meeting of people like festivals, there will still be some of the old organizations still withstanding, or surely new ones will come to take place of the old: you can destroy a festival, but you will never destroy the concept of festivals, that for sure.

what? i thought the line up is almost 100% completed at this point.

Doubt... Deftones headliner in 2021? The latest album is crazy, but still I found it hard to believe that the lineup is done - but yeah, maybe saying that Half the lineup is TBA is an overstatement

It is not even "being newbie" at this point, with regards to the management or the external social media managers hired or whatever, they are just trolling heavily.

Who the hell, after months of silence from the whole festival circuit, would tease the release of a underground-undercard-discovery channel with THREE DAYS advance with no hints with half the lineup TBA and not a single breath for months?

    Huge lmao

It's actually summer now in South Africa, where they are experiencing the second wave and a modified version of the virus. We can keep speculating, but until everyone is vaccinated (not just the western world) there is a change the virus might still spread and variations might develop that won't be covered by these vaccins. So you might need to modify and re-administer the vaccins. Moreover I see too many stories about people who did not end up in hospital but still feel tired as hell. I want to be optimistic, but just don't see the big ones happening for me this summer.

Yep, just healed up from the 'rona: it was not much of a deal, being 26 and in relatively decent health, but I was really unable to do anything other than lying down on the sofa and moan for 3 straight days. The whole thing went soft on me, but other friends of mine got the other end of the stick and were not able to leave their perimeters for almost a month due to positivity or flu, tireness and such.

Definetely would not suggest anybody to leave their country if they do not have the antibodies to avoid it, a festival is out of question in my opinion, no matter the population of it.

I personally gave up my chances on Primavera this year, which was the only festival with a lineup so wow to force me to buy a ticket with a year in advantage... Let's hope for 2022 with a full regular festival season, rather than a one-harmed, dangerous and pricey one in 2021

Ok drunk confession at 3:37, if covid disappears i want GIGI D'AGOSTINO as dance closure or here or at pukkelpop

Italian friends spread the word, why paul kalbrenner etc yes and our gigi no

I do remember a closing sunset at Sziget '18 and me and a friend were walking down an almost dismantled main stage area when from outta nowhere L'Amour Toujours rumbled through space and time and it hit me like a train. Why that happened? Was that really necessary? Was I expecting that? No, no and no, but yet that was a moment of weird bliss I've experienced at a festival

Just kill your Fight Club and Mr. Robot, this is tiring. Seriously, kill it: wrong place to find somebody who actually cares for the bunch of bullshit you are throwing and this is hugely disrespectful for the people who had to live with this epidemic in eye of the fucking storm and even lose somebody close.
