  1. It's a nice city festival, close to the city center and quite comfy, I have enjoyed it last year. Food is vege only and drinks are quite expensive (8eur+ for beer) if I remember correctly. Lineup was rather thin to my tastes as they have 3 stages with ±3 international artists topping each stage, completed with number of local artists, which means there's not much to do in the afternoon unless you're into local acts. Overall it was a nice experience but nothing I would repeat unless there's a special act playing. Blur made me do the trip last year as this was the only date which worked for me 🙂

Scowl look double booked to me, playing in the UK and Rock for People on Wed 12/6 - unless it was just a holding date for Download that they haven't updated.

According to DL poster, Scowl plays their Dogtooth stage on Friday 😉

  3. New international names just dropped: AVIVA / Beth McCarthy / Black Box Revelation / Brutalismus 3000 / Delilah Bon / DONOTS / Dying Wish / High Fade / Chinchilla / James And The Cold Gun / Kerry King / Lazy Habits / MAZ Universe / Noahfinnce / Of Mice & Men / Picture Parlor / Sanguisugabogg / Scowl / Shame / The Darkness / The Lathums / The Struts / Thumper

    The lineup is 95% done.

Kinda glad there’s no one in this announcement for me because I’ve got a long list already 😅

Where do people think +++ (Crosses) will play? It’s their European debut so I feel like that’d bump them up a bit but also they’re not huge so I can’t tell where the bump would get them too. Im just praying they don’t clash with Tool 😶

Crosses are also at RaR/RiP 2 weeks earlier

The owners are a private equity firm out of the US, Providence Equity, they bought Sziget in 2017. They probably thought they could pick up some booming EU festival and milk it for cash, like the Glazer Family does with Manchester United. Then COVID hit and now they actually need to invest to keep it a good brand. Looks like they were unprepared for this.

Hey, Providence, sell Sziget to Live Nation. If we are all going to get fleeced with high fees, at least do it right. Whatever anyone thinks about Live Nation (and I do not love them), they at least know how to do festivals and touring right. They would never let such a good brand suffer. Sziget was on par with anything in the world short of Coachella and Glastonbury, they were right under that, and that is HUGE. Now it is becoming an also-ran because Providence has no strategy here.

I see your point but I would argue it's not about Providence as they have number of amazing festivals in their portfolio, such as Wacken, Oya, Sonar, Flow, etc. We need more competition for LN to keep festival industry thriving. Just my 2c...

First timer going! Booked the RfP tent hotel as coming from abroad with a mate and didn't want to lug a tent over from England. Anyone stayed in one before and if so how big is it?

I have stayed in the different type of glamping tent but tent hotels were pitched right next to us and they looked like a normal 2 person size tent, something like this one: https://www.decathlon.com/products/2-second-easy-camping-tent-2-person-331494?adept-product=2-second-easy-camping-tent-2-person-331494&variant=39386576224318&adept_product_id=2-second-easy-camping-tent-2-person-331494&source=search

You can see find photos here: https://rockforpeople.cz/en/zazitky/rfp-tent-hotel/

  7. What's the daily / weekend tickets ratio at Rock Werchter? I am curious given our discussion which day will sell out.

I know that for some festivals (e.g. NOS Alive) daily tickets are big deal but I always considered Werchter to be much more about full festival tickets, perhaps I am wrong?

  8. Well, the point is logistics and I wouldn't be surprised if Sum 41 are the ones flying 😉

Don't get me wrong, the names you listed would be fantastic for me personally (well, except Babymetal but that's another story :-), I am just managing expectations as many people have huge ones towards RfP. They managed to overdeliver 22 & 23, let's see how the next year will turn out fro them. I am honestly not that sceptical as subs are great for me and many of smaller ones are amazing. I believe they will bring a few more exciting names in the future.

    ‘seemingly available’

I obviously don’t know the details but all listed artists (maybe except Deftones) are in Europe during RfP and don’t really have that busy schedules (yet). Most of them is playing at Nova Rock or Download with which the festival shares most of the names.

    Got it.

Unfortunately, what looks possible on a paper doesn't work in reality. E.g. getting from the UK or Scandinavia to central Europe (RfP/NR) requires flying, so you need 1 day gap in the tour schedule if the band travels in tour bus, which is basically everyone except huge headliners who will fly in, but that requires at least double production setup (one is being built while the other one travels).

Babymetal have Greenfield - Download - Nova, so they are out based on logistics.
Turnstile are in Sweden on Fri, so technically possible on Wed, but I doubt it. I expect them to book more gigs in Scandinavia instead.
Polyphia - they have DL only, so technically a possibility if they are open to travel to mainland Europe.
    Mudvayne - they play RaR/RiP/NR, so it's a posibility.
The Used - they have Download only so far, no indication of them coming over to mainland Europe. If they start their tour at DL, I would say there's a slim chance they will appear here because of logistics.
Deftones - I believe they are exclusive to Primavera
the bloody Avenged Sevenfold - they can make it logistically, though I am not convinced they make sense for RfP. Let's face it, they are a niche act in Czechia and the last album didn't help a bit. I like them but I would be hugely surprised if they are our missing head.

So, from your list, only Polyphia and Mudvayne are possibility imho. They still might appear in the next announcement, let's see

Parkway Drive and Avril Lavigne are surely bigger. Avril Lavigne recently played a small arena here in Prague, I don't think Yungblud can do it.

Size of acts is quite subjective. If you use ticket sales, PWD are the smallest as they played 4k cap. Yungblud sold 2x 3cap shows in the row, Avril sold out ±8k in Prague (although it was a covid show postponed for 2 yrs, so hard to measure). Based on tix sales only, Yungblud is capable of headlining.

It just puzzles me that people are complaining regarding headliner slot instead of enjoying the fact they have much more headline sized bands. Nevermind 😉

Disappointed. I know Rock for People isn't only about headliners but this year even undercard is super boring and uninspired. Lots of repeats and 'regulars' who play in Czechia almost every year. And it looks like some interesting bands slipped though their fingers. Turnstile, Babymetal, Polyphia, Mudvayne, The Used, Deftones or even the bloody Avenged Sevenfold - they all haven't played in Czechia for a while. All of them are nearby and seemingly available, yet they haven't booked any of them...

Available? Seems you know some insider info, spill the beans... 😉

More than half of advent is open and unfortunately for me it doesn't look good. Shikari is the only band that im happy with . Deathbyrommy is nice addition for some diversity.

Surprised that there is no Underoath, Beartooth, Deftones, Crosses, Bad Omens, Polyphia, Turnstile, Frank Carter, all of them will be in Europe in June. Maybe some of them will come later

Interesting that at Hurricane Offspring is sub for BMTH, and at RfP they are headline 🙂

    You have nailed it 😉

  13. It's very nice festival, neatly organized. The only potential watchout is the fact that Pohoda is very family oriented festival, with lots of talks, debates, etc. Some might call the vibe boring. I guess it will be interesting to see how this will play out with this lineup which is best in ages for my tastes

It's more than just a band with 3 hits. Their first albums (All Killer No FillerDoes This Look InfectedChuck) remain their 3 biggest albums with tons of singles. But the next album Underclass Hero was really good and has lot of success live. Since 2016 with the comeback of Dave and the new drummer Frank, added to the better health of Deryck, their live performance are better years after years. Have a look on their show at Hellfest on YouTube. From playing clubs with 2000p, they headlined 8k arena on their last tours in Belgium. With the pop-punk revival since 3-4 years and the fact they are on tour farewell tour, it all confirms their massive statut right now. They played so early at Rock Werchter in 2022 and it was one of the best shows of the Main Stage in the afternoon. Not a surprise to see them higher everywhere and headline medium festivals like the small place of I-Days (I read on this forum it's a 30k capacity).

Sum 41 apparently sold 40k tickets in Paris at La Defense Arena

Deftones are exclusive to Primavera afaik, Beartooth to Rar/Rip, Turnstile start at Hu/So weekend so I am not sure thay are around. Bad Omens have a show in Prague in Feb, perhaps that's the reason to hold them back? Polyphia and Frank Carter are great shouts, let's hope they are announced

There are few festivals with very nice lineup, seems that everything is about logistics and availability

You're right, it's all about logistics and availability. Last year June was great, July was terrible, August so, so. 2024 is apparently the other way round.

    Hoobastank announced.

Together with Avril Lavigne, SUM 41 and Offspring we have a nice bunch of retro bands that didnt release records in a few years. Today is Prodigy concert in Prague, I wouldnt be surprised that they announce them in a few days too 🙂

+ Pearl Jam announcing EU tour next week, could they be one of the big names which we are missing?

    Last albums: Avril 2022, The Offspring 2021, Sum 41 Q1'2024  😉

I guess The Prodigy are a good shout, let's see. PJ would be awesome, but I am not sure they will tour at all. Everyone was expecting them at Werchter and I think this ship has sailed with their last announcement...

  18. Honestly, I am not complaining. There's actually not that many repeats, it's just Sum, Enter Shikari and Hot Milk from '22, all three are great live and Sum 41 returning  is completely justified as this is their last tour. I think headliners are complicated this year for RfP, not sure what went wrong but I don't see many possible names flying around. Perhaps we had too high expectations?

    - for 2024 we have BMTH and The Offspring, subbed by Avril, PWD, Pendulum, Corey, Enter Shikari and Sum 41 (or perhaps they are headliner?) so far, with 20+ names and 2 headliners to go

    - in 2023 we had: Muse, Slipknot, The 1975, MGK, subbed by Architects, Simple Plan, Billy Talent, Hollywood Undead, Papa Roach and Nothing but Thieves

    - 2022: Green Day, FOB, Biffy Clyro, Royal Blood, subbed by Weezer, Wolf Alice, Idles, Skillet, Dope D.O.D. and Sum 41.

I get that headliners are not on par with '23 set but subs are the strongest imho. I am curious what will be announced over next few weeks.

TBH don't see much difference between RAR/RIP and Nova Rock. For me the trump card of Nova Rock is Jane's Addiction, and they'll probably clash with Green Day. BMTH played RAR/RIP last year, no reason to repeat so soon (although I wouldn't mind). Same with Sum 41. Other main differences are Avril and Alice Cooper, and that's probably all.

Then RAR/RIP have QOTSA and some interesting undercards like 311, L.S. Dunes. I would say both festivals have equally strong lineups and RFP as usual will try to take the best available from them.

IMO in the end Måneskin will be the third headliner as they have some connection with promoters (worked on Prague arena show and 2021 festival), fourth one is a pure guess, maybe Avenged Sevenfold, maybe The National (if The Offspring can why can't they), maybe even Fall Out Boy or Pantera from Download lineup...

Well, you've summed it up - NR has BMTH, Jane's Addiction, Avril, Alice, Sum 41 and few others, while RaR/RiP has just QOTSA and Billy Talent from top 2 lines. I will go to RaR/RiP as usual but from my POV, Nova Rock has subjectively a stronger lineup.

Anyway, re RFP, I don't think we get Maneskin as I agree they would be announced already. A7X just don't make sense as they simply don't have a strong appeal in CZ (as mentioned, last time they played they struggled to attract 4k ppl) and they are quite expensive. I wouldn't mind them but I can't see it happening. Who the remaining 2 heads are is anybody's guess now...

  20. Well, I guess the supply is quite weak for first part of June. I would say unusually weak. RaR/RiP and Download are prime examples. Novarock won a jackpot bringing all strong names together but some repeats are crazy...

As much I would love RfP to surprise us I wouldn't hold my breath. I am hoping for some interesting undercard and fresh small names, headliners are a bonus for me.
