  1. Wishful thinking at this point, no?

    Looking back at the pompous, NIMBY stuck up ignorant village idiots who made up excuses in attempt to stop one form of modern culture that differed from their own;

    Looking back at the criminal mafia gang called the "Police" who demanded £50/hr for each mafia member / bobbie, when for the most part they'd be strolling about eating doughnuts when the rest of us have to WORK & pay for our tickets;

Looking back at occasional instances of ex-paras with PTSD getting jobs in security & going beyond their job descriptions

    - can't see it happening. I'm amazed they pulled off ANY of them in recent years, due to the uphill struggles they faced.

However, if any of the great folks who organised those events are reading, I'd like to suggest a couple of things:

    1) Run your event in Europe, France, Northern Spain, etc. Then organise the package breaks, travel & tickets from here.

    2) Or, if you can stretch to another UK event, August bank holiday. That gives you longer time to organise, it's also a more traditional time for getting mash up, & late summer has better weather than early summer when peak pollen & freak rains are out of the way.

I think many people have said all festival promoters should boycott the UK & set up in a more culture friendly place which is [strangely] cheaper to get to, with more beatiful scenery. Imo it's time we stopped paying these backward people who want our cash but not "our sort". Enough is enough!

  2. Would be very sad if the heat waves return & there's no Glade. Such a shame the greedy OB made it difficult for them. A legal event with proper security, or something without land owners permission? And to think that many people would've saved themselves just for Glade, due to the epicness of it. Sure it got new owners, but it served a purpose. Ironic that the more commercial events full of chavvy kids still operate, while the older more sensible (ahahahahaha!!!!!) people loose out. What a horrible country we live in.

  3. Your right, not much feedback on it, not just here but other boards aswell. Ofcourse, it gets a mention on ravetalk when there is a break in the blanket of Bangface!

I also didn't go, but would like to return. TBH I'm amazed they pulled it off, considering the sudden change of venues. I honestly thought there might be another bad news.

OK so I'm being selfish now, but one main reason I never is that hay fever season (grass pollen) peaks in mid-late june. I used to LOVE glade being in July, as all the pollen is gone, symbolised by those GOLDEN fields. Tip: weather seems to improve after wimbledon (er, except 2007, ooops!).

I feel bad right now, because I have just started getting excited about the summer. This time a few years back we'd all be gearing up for glade in a few weeks. Feels weird that it's gone already.

Personally I think it should be on August bank holiday.

  4. This country is backwards, we still have rock gigs & commercial events populated by chavs so why the opposition to an event catering for electronic music enthusiasts? Oh wait, it;s the hippy roots, isn't it. All the village idiot nimbys are scared of hippies aren't they. They know where they stand with yer local chav.

How stupid that these people pull out especially in times like these. We should be allowed to go out once a year & enjoy music, I think we've earned that right. We keep the wheels turning just the same as the village idiot nimbys, so give us a reason for doing so. We're not slaves & should be allowed to let our hair down once a year. NOTHING that goes on at a festival is going to bring about world war three, it's only a festival.

Why do we bow down to the village idiot nimby? We probably contribute more, on account of the village idiot nimby being selfish.

Hope Glade manage to steer a path through all this backwardness this year.

  5. wouldn't fret too much, they've always started their websites slowly like that. it's only february! they seem to try somethig new each year, & see tickets have sold tickets for glasto & others, so again, don't fret (you could always google the page source or sumink?).

reckon it's been an uphill struggle for 'em, so massive respect for fighting on, especially with this govt, this climate & these politics. i really hope they manage it this year without too many headaches!

it's sad that they have to downsize probably due to the extortion racket the OB were trying to pull last year, probably their 'excuse' being crowd size (?). it begs the question why have an approved security / security fence / reduced sound levels / music for an older more 'sensible' crowd / other sacrifices to please people who simply don't approve of this sort of thing, when the OB are gonna turn up like a mafia gang demanding extortionate amounts for 'their own' brand of 'protection' (which mostly involves gently strolling about in yellow jackets, occasionally calling in a meat wagon when someones been too blatant?

sorry for the rant. my hopes are with the glade peeps

  6. i know big events need to be policed, "simply because that event has attracted X amount of certain "types" of people therefore that events' organizers have to pay for it".

but i can't help feeling that these events, that have clearly defined boundaries & controlled access & exits, with their own security, that, why on earth do the plod command such payment when they're just doing what they get paid to do already? i think they've become the mafia - they are demanding money for a protection racket. surely, if they WANT (or feel they need to) be there, then they should charge all the overtime & extra resources to the GOVERNMENT? i mean come on, isn't it also the governments wish to clamp down on use / possession of illegal substances, drunken behavior and/or violence* (not to mention the governments / middle classes view of dance music in general)?

it's funny because, most of the drugs have been killed off, alcohol price is sky high, smoking is restricted, violence is typically VERY low at non-commercial events - so why the price hike anyway? it's sickening that you can get so far in a licensing application but the MAFIA po-lice start offering 'protection'. extortion imo

  7. :P AGREED!!! let's have some "other dance festivals" in here please. it's full of random night club spam.

ok ok there may be a lack of dance / electronic festivals OTHER THAN the ones already categorized in the dance festivals section, but please! my eyes + mind are glazing over at all the random text & abbreviations. MY EYES! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!!!

maybe some of the rock / indie festivals that have a little dance section of their own could come in here & elaborate a bit more?

  8. just go... it blows everything else out the water.

    it's their loss (really).

thing with glade is it's a more grown up, laid back festival compared to global or similar & hardly any chavs, despite varied music policy. people really are going for the music rather than a bunch of kids misbehaving for the hell of it.

everyone seems really friendly on site, people look out for each other around their tents, & it's all very relaxed how you can just decide when you feel like getting on it & follow your ears. it's not like commercial events where you feel you need to be in two places at once, feels a bit more casual than that. like a camping trip with * something interesting, over there *.

not sure where this worry about going solo comes from as even people in groups can suddenly stand up at their pitches & think "i'm going over their to X tent / arena". just know where your tent is, keep valuables in the lockups & talk to people, it's not hard!

  9. kind of regretting not going now, though i do find the price a bit steep.

the problem with homelands was (& i didn't want to say this before glade) - the TOILET drainage. the "WALL"*. horrible leakage in the tents at homelands. what a load of rubbish, putting up a 'gentlemens' wall adjoining a slope near the tents. stupid.

anyway that was years ago, glad they got the rain drainage sorted ;)

  10. nah man, i would go & experience it before it get's sludgy (if it does)!

i've done homelands & global a few times each, a certain amount of surface sludge from people stomping / churning it up would not be my main concern - i'd wish for people to not throw their rubbish all over the place. my homelnds experience were a fcuking disgrace, the amount of litter people left :D . i think glade goers are better than that though.

if we're still comparing to glade 07, then the thing that got me was the shin-high RIVER of water on friday morning ruining all my kit. this was on the top of the hill. very much doubt this will happen again, even with 'some' rain.

  11. it looks like typical homelands weather to me :) . a bit in between.

it rained at homelands, the worst it got was a bit of sludge on top, & that was before they fixed the drainage.

i'm no fortune teller but that monsoon at wasing '07 (wasing venue is on a hill / slope), well i can't see that happening again for a long while. it took some real act of god to make it flood on a hill.

anyways wot u worrying about? u did glade 07 so u can do anything

  12. int it normally the security firm that goes diving in head first if they feel like it? i'm pretty sure plod are there for keeping the peace, look out for dealers, show a presence, etc etc. not sure how anyone is supposed to know this. have you asked them?

it's a big dance event in the uk. not 'indian sacred land' (like burning man) where they leave you alone. common sense alone dictates that OB can get plenty of o/time & fill their stats at any dance event, if they wanted to  .

  13. you no been homelands? it's not that far, it seems further walking back when spangled lol. i actually thought wasing was a trek, aiming for i.d.spiral but vegging out near the breaksday.

if you can get maps on site that's better 'cos homelands had 2 carparks i think, 1 was also the coach park. i got it wrong one year so had to walk all the way back & out again, now THAT was long!

  14. i'm gonna pass this year, kinda wanna see how it goes at the bowl!

don't be put off by lack of efesters speaking up, there was an 'old crew' who were mad keen on it, think a few were banned, maybe i scared a few off, but i would guess most of 'em are still going :D

there's also nuskoolbreaks & the multitude of psy boards.

ofcourse i will just die if you guys get the heatwave & i'm not there :D . enjoy :D

  15. i miss the one night festivals like homelands & global. but all that seems like a different era to me anyway.

i'm very cynical about people like gatecrasher et al; going to these is like going to an outdoor club, it's not very memorable (imo), it's like: have yer fun, eat yer burger, now fook off!! this can be reflected by the amount of litter people drop; it's a throw away experience.

the early glades were less populated & because of the hippy ethos, people actually gave a fcuk & put stuff in the bins. it's strange 'cos despite the assorted beats going on, people were there to chill & because of the awesome lineups in any direction from about midday onwards you'd just gravitate towards something naturally. unlike commercial events where there is no tomorrow, get wasted as possible, go see mr big name dj, go home.

will it be a good replacement? yes, it will overwrite all the club branded events completely.

  16. people come out of the offices opposite where i work going "ooh ja, catch me on my myspace / facebook (whatever) hehehehehe!" they sit at terminals all day chatting on the internet & sit yards away from each other :P . it's probably to finish off conversations they couldn't do in work time (gossip, slag off other members of staff, bask in their own self importance....) lol. glad i don't work in that kind of environment. i would've stabbed them all!

  17. aye it's very subjective to the music you like, the weather & other things :D

but if you're not offended by psy-trance* & it's hot, you might find yourself staying where the dust, the hay & the open air music is. it's all about bare-foot dancing :) . must be something in it 'cos why would people go out in the hottest part of the day & stay there until night? i reckon many people stayed there when they should've got some food & drink!

when they had the sancho-panza tent that was like a little sanctuary, medium size semi-open tent that allowed the breeze in, gave shade & had some mad funky music.

you go to glade for serious music but it differs to somewhere like, oh, fabric where you have some ubers-i'm-too-cool-for-this-shit - at glade everyone is just dead chuffed to be there so none of these snooty people. charver population quite small & even if they were there the ones there for the music were sound types too :) . aye, sound....

*ofcourse this'd be great whatever music they had at 'open air stage'.

even the chillout areas play some superb deep ambient that takes you on a journey (while on your back, looking at the sky!)

  18. ...oh & look where it is... :D:)

still can't get my head round why the old site has been vacated, it looked like it would contain the sound very well, with the tents being at the bottom of a hillside, & a large woodland section sloping upwards like a huge dam made of trees... but of course, not really about the sound was it (imo), more the views of one nimby on the war path, ultimately :) .

new site not so woodland innit... but the right shape, eh :)

  19. well the usual dance events like godskitchen, creamfields etc are just big outdoor club events with big name 'commercial' dj's & acts, trying to attract some of their regular club types & then the younger crowd just starting out at festivals will be there too. big soundsystems lot's of po-lice & burger vans. a good crack but fairly superficial.

glade seem to look more in-depth for new & more underground artists, based loosely around psy-trance, uk breaks, ambient, IDM & related mental music. also some techno & house.

atmosphere is fantastic for the most part it's the most 'honest' crowd compared to these superclub festivals. people are just there to relax & loosen up, be in a scenic location & feel free to wander round place to place without feeling like it's gonna end too soon.

they don't pimp it like the clubs do which is probably why you get more people there actually for the music, they don't really need to as it's not really about cashing in but providing something memorable. although they do make it more than worthwile when you get there, just not with tons of advertising. you should check out the glade photos on their website.

there's much better vaiety of food on offer & great places to chill. bit of a hippy vibe but not too pretentious. mad mental music goes on with psy in the middle & chill out on another part of site. it just feels like being on holiday.

no horror from the toilets & most years they have great weather which has resulted in much extreme fun dancing in the hot sun barefoot. weather's a gamble for any festival

but if/when these things coincide you'll probably want to go the following year. indeed, on the same dates in '05 & '06 there was heatwave which made it even more special, though perhaps a tad too hot for some.

personally this event has tainted my view of the more commercial events to the extent now that i won't go to them anymore.

    hope this helps
