For anybody wanting to read THE BOOK on why drugs should be legalised, this is the one for you. It is a phenomenal read.

This is a link to an interesting podcast with the author. It’s on YouTube but is audio-only, probably available via other outlets but this is where I can across it. Very interesting.

Is it not mega sickly? I absolutely love Werthers. I may take your advice. Did you mix it with anything when you drank it, assuming not? Last question - How many Werthers for a litre of vodka were you using roughly? Just those standard sized bags?

It is pretty sickly yeah, you’d struggle to drink a lot each sesh but it’s perfect in a hip flask to keep yourself topped up! No mixer required. High alcohol, low volume of liquid = less trips to the long drops so perfect for when you’re in a crowd!

About 200g per litre will be about right, enjoy!

Top man. As in only put just the red skittles in (for e.g.), or can it be red, yellow, orange? I'm probably overcomplicating something really simple haha!

I've decided on my festival drinks already! 2 vodka (pear drop and skittle), rum, gin, IPA's and Thatchers Gold, with tonic, lemonade and ginger beer mixers for the spirits.

    It's gonna be a long 8 months ?

Yeah, just put one colour at a time. nothing stopping you doing red yellow and orange but I don’t know what colour that would turn out!  It’s all about the taste though I guess.

Can really recommend doing werthers originals, it’s top drawer?

Amazing! I have heard of the dishwasher trick, gonna do a trial run in a couple weeks. This has made me even more excited for next year!

Is skittles vodka made with the dishwasher trick? Being lazy, I'm gonna Google it haha!

You can do skittles in the dishwasher but if you chuck a whole pack in, it’ll turn out brown coz the colours all mix together. You can separate them out though and you’re good to go?

This is either madness or genius. Time will tell.

It's the latter!  I'm not claiming to have thought of it, it's all over 'tinternet.  Just google dishwasher vodka, it works a treat!

Yes, just for sake of looking nice I split them into the pink and yellow varieties. They dissolve quicker than other ones I've tried and leave no unwanted residue. The strong pear taste overpowers the vodka, and could be mixed with any fruity kind of mixer. If the resale goes well I'll be making double what I did last year.

Also did the Werthers originals vodka, and used that to make some toffee white russians. Nice, but a bit of a pain to infuse and filter, very very sweet and a lingering aftertaste. No such issues with the pear drops!

Ooh... this one stands out to me.

I did raspberry vodka in 2017 and deffo doing it again (though I struggled with finding the right mixer?).

What's the crack with pear drop vodka, simply leaving them in the vodka for a few months? Specific colours?

No need to infuse/filter.  Take a bottle of vodka, empty out a bit (save it, obviously!) to free up some room.  Get 200g of whatever sweets you want.  Crush in a freezer bag using a rolling pin/hammer/whatever you want, then pour the powdered/crushed sweets into the vodka.  Seal it up, shake vigorously, (the bottle, not yourself) and place in the top shelf of a dishwasher.  Put it through one cycle without a tablet and you're good to go.  The heat melts the sweets.  Give it a shake after, decant into plastic and enjoy!

There most certainly is, that is where I first tried it, it is also available in supermarkets, I know for certain Sainsbury’s and Tesco stock it (other supermarkets are available).

Popped in there at lunchtime and picked up a couple. Currently tucking into them, very nice! Will take some to the farm next year for breakfast ?

We also broke the tape when this kicked off. Got pissed on weird flavoured vodka with the pink umbrella lot and got talked into it; didn't have a clue what it was. Great way to start the weekend. We ended up going home with the Meat Loaf styled banner they had on stage.

That could have been me!  I was sharing hip flasks of Werthers vodka and the famous cherry bakewell concoction with randoms around me :)

Ultimate Power @ Williams Green (Thu) The cheesiest way to kick off day 2. Last year it was simply amazing, from the opening notes of Don't Stop Believing as the safety tape was bring removed from the entrance the tent just went ballistic. It was as much as a gig, the crowd were just screaming every song back at the dis who milked every moment as if they were on the Pyramid. Just brilliant. First encountered this at the Stonebridge Bar in 2009 (I think) but now seems to have moved to Williams Green.

I was probably running next to you straight to the front when the tape came down! Loved it, a real highlight. Someone on here recommended it. Am hoping they are there again next year!

It is a tasty as hell 6.5% grapefruit IPA that will rock you’re world and re-invigorate your drunk ness from the night before

Just been on google, looks pretty damn fine to me. There’s a brewdog pub in Bristol so I might try it in there!

I’m pretty happy with my Elvis Juice for breakfast, Punk IPA/DeadPonyClub for lunch, and a 3 litre bladder pack of cucumber infused gin’n’tonic for tea ?

    What is this, pray tell?

That Cherry Bakewell sounds superb, but I don't like Vodka!

Honestly, you can’t taste any vodka, it’s very sweet and tastes more of the cherry and ameretto!

The Cherry Bakewell will be the death of me.. sounds both delicious and lethal.

    It is!

It’s great fun when you’re in a crowd watching some random stuff, sharing the love and watching people’s faces when they try either the cherry bakewell or werthers vodka for the first time!

I am doing this! Any particular brands of said spirits you would recommend for this?

    The cheapest ?

Its hard to find cherry brandy to be fair so get prepared in advance. It’s great neat but also good with lemonade. That said, werthers vodka is my fav

I don't fancy leeching plastic from the high heat

No, do it in the glass bottle then decant to plastic when cool. Can highly recommend it, with whatever your favourite boiled sweet is. Smash them to bits, then pour into a bottle and stick into the dishwasher for a cycle, without a tablet ?

I’ll put a bag of sherbet lemons in some vodka. Tried various sweet and vodka combos I’ve the years but that’s the best one by a long way. Wham bars second place.

Tried rhubarb and custard? In the dishwasher?

Ha ha, yes 99% sure that’s what will happen dude!

Trying WV in 16/17 was a way of tempting my wife and some really good friends to sample the magic of Glastonbury (I’d always gone with other friends and stayed in general camping).

They have all got the bug now and we can all use the £350 (with car park ticket) on something else.

    Good tactics! Nice one ?

  18. I think it was @Curlygirl who recommended cherry bakewell. Equal parts vodka, cherry brandy and ameretto. No infusion required.

I’m forever in her debt for that recommendation! Can’t tell you how good it is! That and werthers vodka!

  19. 34 minutes ago, The Red Telephone said:

Stayed here for the past few festivals, but seriously considering going back into general camping next year.

The proximity of the car park and not needing to lug so much stuff around is the big selling point to WV for me, but £300 plus car park pass is right at the limit at what we can afford...and to be honest, probably over.

How about spending less than a third of that on a really sturdy 4 wheel trolly that’ll take the pain out of the trek in, go for general camping and spend the rest on beer/cider/whatever takes your fancy ?

I'd forgotten Hozier - stumbled across him in 2014 and loved him!

Also just come across Isaac Gracie - sounds good, must listen some more.  Can anyone tell me more about him?

He was on with Annie Mac last night, some time in the first hour, catch up with it.  Just a brief interview as she had his new single as the hottest in the world, so played it twice.  I'll be going to see him if he's there next year for sure.

They played last year. Seen them a couple of times... very good if a bit wet. Be surprised if they don't play next year.

Seen them a few times at festivals now. Very early on JP last year and had a decent crowd. Expect they might do a Circa Waves and graduate to mid/late afternoon JP next year.

They were pretty decent last year, nothing too exciting but solid enough. I wouldn't worry about missing it anyway!

They're probably quite an easy and cheap booking for the festival so if they have a new album out there's a decent chance they'll be booked next year I guess.

Thanks for the replies, I'll keep an eye out for them.  Saw that they were in JP Sunday lunchtime last year and I think I was somewhere over in the Park at that time, probably in the Bimble Inn, drinking my breakfast :)

  22. This band just popped up on a random Spotify playlist. New to me. Liking what I hear, I stick their album on and wonder if they’re likely to play GF next year.

Turns out they were there last year. And so was I, doh! Anyone go to see them? Want to tell me how good they were live/rub it in a bit?!

Any chance they’ll play again next year? (ticket gods were good to me again)
