First time at Glastonbury this year and I have read a lot of different opinions on what the best time to arrive is. We was thinking of driving through the night (driving from Hull so a long drive) to arrive early Wednesday morning, sleep in the car until the gates open and then queue. Is this the best option or do people have other suggestions? All suggestions are welcome and helpful!! Thanks

Queues will start forming at the gates on Tuesday evening and swell through the night, so by the time the gates open those just joining the queue may have a wait of 2hr+ to get in. Obviously popular camping fields fill quickest so any arrival plans start with when can we arrive and where would be like to camp.

In 2019 it was 26 to Sunday 30 June.

    In 2024 there's Sunday 30 June again.

Won't it probably be 26 to 30 June again then??

The summer solstice in 2019 was Friday the 21st making 26 - 30 2019 the first weekend after the solstice (Friday 28th being the first Friday after the solstice)

It’s always the first Friday after the summer solstice so will be 26th to 30th June 2024

The summer solstice in 2024 is Thursday 20th June so the first Friday after is the 21st

    well said.

E18 looks to be the furthest walk on the paths, unless you can cut across Pylle road from quiet and there's a gate in the tree line or something. I'll be sure to tell him what people have said.

I tried to convince him to stick it in general camping for the walking and the stubborn idiot insisted on sleeping in a bed, the logic of going to the pub is lost on me but there we are.

Thanks to you and others for the input!

The only time we ventured to the pub in Pilton on the Tuesday night it was anything but restful. It was heaving, standing room only and took ages to get served. We weren't able to get food and headed off back after a just 1 jar! Not something I'd personally repeat.

Calling 4cm 'entry level' is strange to me (some of the most expensive ones are quite thin!) but I guess it depends what factors you base your choice on.

The bigger and thicker you go the bulkier it gets. I get on fine with mine that is a similar size - it keeps me off the ground which is the main thing. A foam matt is another bulky item (I usually have a rubber backed travel rug underneath to protect the groundsheet mostly, and adds a bit of extra insulation). I can fold the matt in half length ways, roll it up and it fits in the bottom pocket of my rucksack. Any bigger and that wouldn't be do-able

Entry level as in you don't want to go thinner

I need to make plans for 2024 soon (visiting USA for a total eclipse on April 8, 2024, and planning for it to be in the early part of a 12 week trip)

    When will Glasto 2024 be?

12 weeks from / about April 8 gets me close to when I think it would be so I need to think whether I start with the eclipse of arrive a week or more beforehand to fit in Texas before the eclipse

    Thanks

The 2024 summer solstice is Thursday 20 June so GF will probably  be 19 - 23 June...........10 weeks after 8 April

Apologies for hijacking this thread but if half of our crowd is staying at Worthy View and other half not but they are in our car parked at WV can they enter via the WV gate? I'm guessing no but thought I'd ask!

Since festival goers need an accommodation booking to enter WV and get their wristbands etc,  in theory it's not possible for your friends to enter via the WV gate. Its also very difficult to get to the other pedestrian access gates ( PGD nearest) from the WV car park.

Thanks for the speedy replies. Yeah the vast majority of our stuff will be taken down in the campervans the day before so we’ll be travelling light on the coach. I also didn’t realise there was a priority queue for people arriving via coach? I guess we’ll just weigh it up on the day when we arrive and see how quick the queue goes down. Just didn’t want to spend hours waiting in a queue if we could just walk 15mins round the perimeter and meet up with our group and then all go and get wristbanded up together early afternoon. Thanks again.

It's far more than a 15min walk around the parimeter and there are areas with no public access which require lengthy detour. I'd enter through the coach queue at gate A and cut across the site. Probably work out much quicker.

I got this recently, nervous about approaching the coach with it so won’t overload in case the driver says no. It’s mainly to take the weight off my back

This is one of the trolleys/trucks that people have had issues taking in the past. It comes down to the space available in the luggage compartment and how tight the driver's pants are! Some people have had to ditch them at the pick up whilst others (me 😃) have had no problems.

My advice is to strap everything you can onto the truck so your gear comes as one to minimise its footprint and get to the front for loading. However if space runs out the driver can and will refuse to carry non-essential items such as trucks/trolleys, chairs and packs of ale 😫 etc

I think I know the answer but just want some confirmation from anyone who has done this because this is my first year at glasto so no prior experience !!

Ive paid my deposit (goes without saying) but have since moved and changed address, when I pay off my balance in April, can I put in a new address (ie where I now live) for the tickets to be sent to? Or do they not give that option and your tickets have to be sent to where you’re registered?

    Thanks for any help!!!

You can update your address on your registration at anytime via this link on the GF website

    https://glastonbury.seetickets.com/registration/lookup

Brill thanks! Think I’m gonna change it to the address of someone else also in my ticket group, that won’t be an issue as they already have a ticket linked to that address will it?

If you're in a group perhaps you could consider someone acting as Lead Booker. That way all the tickets would go to their address and you would save on postage costs.

Hi everyone just wondering if someone could answer some questions for me!

Going to my first glasto but I’m most likely going to be moving house between the middle of May to the start of June so I’m just wondering what I should do about my ticket being sent out?

How soon in advance do tickets normally get dispatched? And also how long does it take to change the address on your ticket? Is this something that can be done when paying in April?

    Will appreciate any help!

You can update your address on the registration at any time, however your problem is one of timing. Mid-May and the first 2 weeks of June is the normally the time when tickets are posted so changing address in this period comes with a risk. I'd consider using a safe third party address to give greater certainty.

Where are shower blocks located? I assume one ever few campsites?

There are no public shower blocks in any of the campsites. There are a few shower facilities provided by third party enterprises or charities for which  fee or donation may be charged. A trip to the shower often involves a lengthy walk (20-30mins).

Hi, all i can add from my original post is that when when we woke around 0500 on the Wednesday morning there was a huge amount of people in the queue to enter at PGC. Obviously the majority of these would have been people who had parked their cars the night before. I have no idea what time they started arriving or queuing but we did walk down towards PGC on the Tuesday night and there were already people that were clearly in the queue to get in once the gates opened on Wednesday morning. I can only assume that all the PGs are the same with the queues at the same time but maybe the line is more narrow so stretches back further?

I recall people last year posting photos of themselves queuing and it hadn't even reached 9pm on Tuesday evening.

Presumably if they're arriving via plane there won't be so much luggage to not have space for booze and a trolley?  Alternative to the waitrose idea above, if your taxi goes via a sainsbury's instead you can usually collect from Argos in many of their stores - whichever option though, make sure it's a decent trolley (e.g. bigger wheels), or you won't get very far dragging your booze / it'll fall apart!  You'd also be buying something for which you will have no need after the festival - so please have a think what you're going to do with it afterwards (someone should be happy to take it off your hands).

Not all trolleys will fit in a saloon  car boot, especially those with larger wheels. We can only accommodate our trolley having half of back seat down and running it through from the boot.

Can anyone recommend some decent sleeping bags and mats (pref self inflating ones) for Glastonbury? Since we haven't been before we weren't sure how chilly it got at night so not entirely sure what to get equipment wise, we both get really cold feet when going to bed haha but also get really hot once we are asleep

i did see this mat on go outdoors, looks decent to me?

    https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15979403/berghaus-peak-self-inflating-mat-xl-15979403

It can get quite cold at night, especially if the fest is not blessed with good hot weather. For comfort I would recommend a 3 season sleeping bag on an air bed or thick self inflating mattress, all upon an insulating foam camping mat. At 4cm thickness the berghaus mat must be teamed with a foam mat to give a degree of comfort. A 4cm thick self inflator is the entry level mat and thicker ones give more comfort. However with increasinf thickness comes increasing mat weight.

hopefully flying in to Bristol, plan is to get taxi and get supplies(beer) on route, is it realistic to think that we might be able to buy a decent trolley/sack truck on the way to carry the beer from the taxi to the tent or are we going to have to carry slabs of beer miles and miles??

The starting consideration is how much space will be available in the taxi? Or flipping it around, how big a taxi will we need to accommodate yourselves, your gear and a trolley? Each year we been in a large family car we've had to put part of the back seat down to accommodate the trolley and our gear.

So even though you had like an hour and a half head start on the car park queue guys, it still took five hours to get in? Mad that.

Not really. Queuing by those arriving by car begins Tuesday evening.

  20. You will have no choice on where you park. You will be under direction from the stewards and potentially could face a walk of up to 40mins to 1hr to the entry gate and thence a further 30 mins+ to where you want to be onsite. To this add a travel time of 30mins+ to Wells plus exit (& entry queues). It's not a burden I would choose to saddle myself with and with youngsters in tow it would be even worse. You will be walking miles each day and any self inflicted extra is unwelcome.

You reckon?! The wheels are proper chunky in the other pictures and says it hold up to 80kg

Think of Glastonbury as the equivalent of an army assault course for trolleys. Uphill and downhill across rough stone roads. Only the strong survive and perceived every day weight carrying performance means nothing. Ideally trolleys need a robust sturdy frame, very strong axles and large pneumatic tyres. Any yes, even these come a cropper from time to time.
