Most years we've started queuing  for Gate A/C around 7-9am and queued for about 2-4 hours.

Like others have said, the queues for most gates will have reduced by midday (if travelling by coach it can vary depending on how many coaches have arrived at the same time) and should be a relatively easy trek in.

The downside is, setting off later means you'll hit a lot more traffic on the way down to Glastonbury but at least it's a bit more comfortable!

In 2017 we arrived at noon Wednesday. The traffic was very light all the way from M5 Bridgewater, through Glastonbury and to Pilton where we hit the queue for the car park.....it was 1 car long and we  were parked 2 minutes later ?

This may be a stupid question but why are we worried about transferring money etc. to one person after the event?

Can't we just have one persons' account with all the money in and everyone pay using those details (whoever gets through)?

Is there some reason this wouldn't work?

(3 of us trying for tickets in the resale)

Depends how much trust you have and how well you know people. Giving complete strangers your bank/credit  card details including cvc always carries a risk ?

Yup , I normally have kettle boiled ready for a nice cup of tea , and a nice deep hot bath run ready , Mrs works in surgical recovery.

god they work them hard though , she’s normally shattered by the time she gets home ?

Yep, only the families of those working frontline in the NHS understand. Permanently understaffed and stressed. Mrs Lycra had 2 glasses of wine and no food. Now in bed. Only lost 1 patient today and he was old....so it's not been such a bad day. The worst is when it's young people who die....just like the kids who should be enjoying their first Glasto.........she had 3 die on her during one shift and she was in bits when she got home.....

Why am I telling you this......Because it makes me so angry how bad the people who make a difference are so badly treated and paid...they're endeavours recognised in patronising condescending platitudes by politicians and near-do-wells.....and those who sit on their arses and just thinking they've done a hard day's work whilst earning mega bucks......It's also why I want to get tickets to take Mrs Lycra back to Glastonbury......The joy it gives to her when she's there is my reward.....Bring on the resale!

    It’s all good ,

mrs Big Durbs has left a long list of “chores” for me to tackle over the weekend  , starting with a lawn mower , and ending with a ironing board, there might be a small involvement of thatchers gold while I work ! All while she just puts two 12 shifts in at the hospital saving life’s ect #proud husband

Know the feeling all too well Big Durbs. Mrs Lycra left me similar list when she departed 6:15am for her 12hr shift in critical care. Will be resuscitating her with cider and red wine when she's gets in 8:15pm ish

My group have decided to drive down now, we've paid off our tickets but obviously need to grab ourselves a car parking ticket, just had a look and it looks like I can only get Worthy View Car Parking tickets at the moment, does anyone know if I can still get standard car park tickets?

If you phone See they will add a parking ticket to your order.

There will be an on site co-op, not sure on the prices but they are meant to be doing cans.

Some people get the bus into town, not sure how long that will take.

As it been confirmed they're doing cans? Press release 2 weeks ago states it's a pop-up shop selling food, drink and other consumables. We need to watch this space as drink does not necessarily mean of the alcoholic type.  ?

Fuck! Hadn't even thought of that. What the hell would have happened if it hadn't been found?

Wasn't my ticket that went astray, a friend's in our group, but put it this way.....even I had a cacky bum ?

That is one less thing you have to worry about when you go by coach as you get your coach ticket by email.

Unless the Coach driver not got your ticket!.........Happened 2007....Fortunately after scouring the coach and an extremely nervous minute or so passed, the coach driver located errant ticket ?

    Time for a graph.

    Rainfall.PNG.091de9ccc7a1155632d4016ee84dcd62.PNG

Rainfall in mm, per month for the last few years. Data covers the South West rather than just Worthy Farm as that's the only data I can get my hands on at the moment. I've missed out fallow years and included 2007 (a wet one) for comparison.

In terms of this year, we're nowhere near 2016 (pink line). By this stage, huge amounts of rain has fallen in Jan, Feb and March so the water table was very high and the ground saturated, which is never recovered from. You'll recall Download was a mudfest too. Similarly 2007 was a wet start to the year though dropped off quickly as was 2014 (another muddy year).

We're tracking below 2017 and currently the driest start to the year since 2010.

If I can find some more location specific data, that will give us a better idea of how higher rainfall at the start of the year affects Glastonbury more specifically.

Great work & very interesting. Another factor we all need consider is the soil type which is predominantly coat I believe. In dry periods the clay sub-soil compacts as the water table lowers becoming very dense and hard. When this happens it is slower than other sub-soils to absorb rain. Hence the topsoil doesn't drain as easily and quickly turns to mud. This is why I always pack my wellies.

Think it was 2009 when I witnessed this effect first hand. Been really dry fest right up to about 1am Sunday night when we had heavy rain for around 45 minutes and the site quickly turned to rivers water and mud.

  10. Have confidence in yourself to wander off for a few hours (or even more) each day to experience what you want. You can't live your life through doing what others want.....Found this out the hard way! And yes it did cause regrets.

If you do, your tales of delights and wonderful experiences my tempt your wife and her friends to explore too. And you may find a new friend or two along the way too.

  11. In 2017 we drove in from M5 Bridgewater & Glastonbury town direction. The traffic was  very light right into to car park, where to queue was 2 cars long. As for camping, there will be lots of options, especially in the western  fields. I'm led to believe the relatively new camping fields such as Bushy, Rivermeade, Diary etc still have spaces at the weekend.

2-3 weeks if you’re lucky.  Less than a week before for many.  Ticket dispatch date stress is up there with ticket purchase stress.  Just watch this forum late June....

Yes dispatch seems to get later and later!

  13. Sorry Jenny,

What you ask is not possible.

All tickets for Glastonbury are personalised with the holders photograph to prevent private sales & ticket touts. They can only be cancelled with the festival for a refund. If you wish to obtain a ticket firstly you need to register your details with the festival, providing a passport style photo of yourself. When registered you will be issued with a registration number unique to you which will enable you to purchase a ticket in any sale. For more details see:

    www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/

ps:  The photo on the ticket is inspected keenly on entry!

Not wanting to be pessimistic  but does anyone know what Wicket Ground is like in a wet year? Is it prone to flooding? I will be with my 14 and 11 year olds and arriving Thursday by coach from Manchester with a fairly large tent so thinking at that as our most likely option.

But would be good to know if we should think about any other options near Gate A if weather is unkind. Will probably be spending most time in Pyramid, Other and John Peel.

Not camped on Wicket in wet years I've observed pools of standing water in the underlating terrain there. Avoid the dips and you should be ok. Like all Glastonbury, mud is a feature of a wet year and the top of a hill provides best assurance of minimising the effects of water. I have seen and there are plenty of pics around of tents being inundated with deep liquid mud in the flatter popular areas.

Your only issue may be arriving Thursday as this could restrict your choice of campsite. Others have stated Cockmill family area is pretty much full by Wednesday afternoon but I am not sure if or when Wicket reaches or nears capacity.

My wife needs to book her holidays for next year now, do we know the likely dates for the 2020 festival?

Glastonbury is traditionally held on the first full weekend after the summer solstice. In 2020 the summer solstice falls on Saturday 20th June so if things follow tradition the festival will run  from Wednesday 23rd June til Sunday 27th June inclusive.....However I am not aware of any official confirmation of these dates.

It's a bit of a trek. Was bloody awful lugging a heavy tent across in the baking heat of the Wednesday in 2017 (although I'll take that again over any r*in, please, Weather Gods). With all your gear it'll take the best part of an hour, for sure.

Is it just me....been so good the last couple of summers that I feel it can't last..... Maybe I need new wellies! Mrs Lycra however says a mud pack would be good for my face....cheeky lady...I have you know I'm a toyboy!

  17. We don't have children but have camped with friends who have, though they were slightly older, 1 just having become a teenager. The are no restrictions that I am aware of that you can't take children into the corner and I have seen them there in the past. However there are things you may not wish them to see  and that is parental choice. There's nothing too outrageous but it could get scary for little ones....especially as it gets very crowded.

As for tent slashing and muggings then you've been reading the wrong blogs or listening too much to your mother or grandmother. I'm not saying Glasto is 100% safe and crime doesnt happen but it one of the safest and friendly festivals out there.

Space is generally a premium where ever you camp but some areas are much less popular than others. Hopefully you may find slightly more space in Cockmil than the extremely popular sites in that area where it's not beyond the possibility to wake up cuddling the person in the next tent through the canvas ?

As for food, it is plentiful and a gastronomic delight of street food from around the globe. In 2017 we paid around £6 - £9 per person per meal, snacks meals are cheaper. To save money we cook our own breakfast, eat our own snacks during the day and have a meal as and when in the evening.

The one thing that strikes most newcomers to the Glasto is it's enormity. The site is huge and it's easy to get lost. Large scale maps available at info points make find your way around easier but I would advise not letting younger ones stray too far. Going to Kidzfield from Cockmil should be ok but any further it beckons a myriad of fields and tented walkways.

    Enjoy...you'll love it (I hope)

  18. Wednesday and Thursday are both settling in, relaxing and chilling out days with any entertainment to be found at the smaller venues, of which there are many and various. Some of this will be publicised before, much on the day. In many of the bars you will find a guitarist or small band often giving seemingly impromptu sets.  Explore and seek out.

As regards a secret set (e.g. by Sheryl  Crow), if happening I think it's more likely on one of the bigger stages which open up at the weekend, maybe Park or John Peel. As I recall secret sets don't happen on the Pyramid, Other or West Holts.
