Ahhahaha, what was the outcome, did the lady’s get funny about it!?

I dont think so , not much she could do ,  a lot of people including us took that distraction as our opportunity to get in unchecked ( which we did )

  2. I still chuckle at this from years ago

Walking down the hill of death and getting to the gate we passed security searching a mature ladies freezer box on a table  and the security guard pulled out the biggest bread knife .  It glinted in the sunlight like a samurai sword.

Holding it aloft like a warrior I just heard security say very politely   " Madam i can't let you take that in "

Radiohead at Glastonbury is likely as hit-friendly a set as you could hope to get.

AC/DC are best for that , maybe one or two off the new album whatever it is then the rest of it  all the classics mainly from

Back in Black, Highway to Hell, , Let There Be Rock

  5. I have the recurring nightmare that it gets to Sunday and I have not seen any bands, in fact have not done anything but faff around my tent since Weds.

Although i once dreamt one of our group decided we should camp outside the fence which caused us numerous problems, although it was a nice quiet field that we had to ourselves.

Because of work commitments i arrived one year around 5.00am on the Thursday , parked my car , got my tent up and i was still wide awake and sober becuase of the drive , mates were all fast asleep so i went for a wander.

Going into the SEC sober, coffee in hand  and wide awake was a revelation.

I then realised how many mashed up people there were and the amount of nose candy being consumed in the morning sun light was quite staggering.

My fear is the full impact of rising prices/inflation will have a significant consequence for the entertainment industry as we have still a long way to go with disposable incomes being squeezed. When it comes to mortgages, rents and fuel bills etc the rises have only just begun 🙁

I think the rush to get Arctic Monkeys tickets for their 2023 tour  proves it is not affecting people yet or is it just being put on the back burner ?

  8. Same weekend as Glastonbury there is an Adventure Bike Festival

£109 a ticket and i get to ride my bike round a huge field.

But then again Stone Circle from 4.00 am is a wonderful thing !.  I once met a couple up there after Metallica on the Sat night and they had not moved from the Stone Circle field since the Weds.

Even if you book early it's difficult to keep it under a grand now, which is a lot for a weekend even if it's a "holiday". There'll probably be a lot less UK-goers next year because of the price hikes who choose to use their discretionary spending domestically instead.

My mate was spending over a £1k for a weekend in Ibiza years ago

  10. My mate volunteered one year and because he can drive lorries his shifts were really easy.

Just driving round the festival site doing jobs for them mainly in the quiet early mornings.

So anyone with a driving licence it is worth pointing that out possibly.

Thanks for reporting back on how going solo worked out for you.  This forum has got a real problem with everyone chanting received wisdoms like mantras without seemingly thinking about what they are saying.  One of these mantras is 'don't have any second thoughts about going solo: just do it and you'll have the time of your life!'  I think this is downright thoughtless - who knows how a stranger on the internet is going to react in a situation where any self-doubt or reticence about troubling strangers could result in a week of loneliness?  Over the years, I've noticed that the people giving this advice have often only actually made solo excursions from their friends/family group, which is a completely different proposition to going there alone.

You don't need to be despondent about it though.  Going as a worker on a large crew is one possible strategy that might be more successful for solo fliers.  Being thrown in to work with a big group of people is one of the most effective ways to establish camaraderie, work out who's on your wavelength and make friends.

Although I have gone in a group , differing musical tastes meant I have spent a fair bit of time on my own and have suffered low points . And not wanted to ring home to cause worry there.

had two critical situations with our buggy with a 3.5y old girl. from wolf alice we walked to the croissant neuf passing west holt. suddenly thousands of people and no go-through at the toilets. waited 10 min, then a young girl helped us to get moving, telling people there‘s a young kid. then mcfly, we walked to a shop and just couldn‘t get out. I think (as a foreigner) that the „typical“ english queing helped a lot as the people walked back very calm. but really dangerous. what are the stewards actually for? just being there for free isn‘t enough. wonderful experience, specially at the green fields and circus but def. too many people. why why why not having a few bands at the pyramid/johnpeel on thursday?

I don’t think the licence will allow bands on the main stages Thursday .

Oh to be a first timer again! I remember the exact moment I fell in love with the festival. Thursday 24th June 2010 at 10:59am. You guys are in for a real treat. I'm taking Mr CG for the first time and I cannot wait to see Glastonbury through his eyes, as I did with a newbie friend in 2016. This year is going to be extra special too x

That’s the exact date and about the exact time I asked someone in Big Ground “ If they fancied a bimble and a coffee ?” We went to The Amish Cafe and we have just celebrated 12 years together.

  14. I remember one year, i had to spend some  time in my tent at Big Ground due to over indulgence -

The Pyramid Stage sound test song was Atlas by Battles and being too f*****d to move or do anything i felt i was being taunted by it and it was messing with my head.

That song will always remind me of that !

I haven't seen any such update yet either. Looked like it was very tight - played LA Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday, so one of those things where one thing can knock the plan off its axis.

But yeah it would be nice to see them make it.

I bet their manager is wishing they had declined a few gigs in California and set off for the UK earlier ?

I saw him 5 years ago and he was dreadful. :( I would hate for that to be my only live memory of him so hopefully he's back on form.

We saw him at Newcastle Arena quite a few years ago.  He started playing some Jazz Fusion stuff and during a quiet bit i presume a  huge Neil Young fan, stood up from his seat waving his arms shouting " This is rubbish  , what is this rubbish ?"

Tickets booked for Foo's. I would like to say that I was also looking forward to St Vincent but have resigned myself to listening to people talk loudly over her set.

I will be sat with Roy Keane and he is bringing the  sandwiches.

    Any ideas on fillings ?

  18. I was at Underneath The Stars Festival near Barnsley yesterday.

I was worried line up would be a bit folky for me , but i loved all the acts.

"This sounds like Massive Attack " was mentioned a few times.

Lovely festival , everyone seems to plonk camping chairs down for the day , but it was not an issue for me , i just stood or sat on the grass.

£4 for a pint of Citra ( no paying for glasses ) and there was a converted horse trailer selling Bandido's IPA at £4.50 which was moreish.

Other than for a late night coffee there was no q's for the bar or the loo's , and the food stalls looked amazing.

Mr Plant cancelled on the Sat for some reason , but they managed to get The Staves at 24 hr notice  - which was not bad going.

Lanterns on the Lake also cancelled which proper pissed me off as i was so looking forward to seeing em on a outdoor stage.  If anyone from the band or their management reads this then an explanation would be nice.

I didn't watch them (Was at Primal Scream on the Other stage) but I also thought the same that if they had played the intended slot in 2010 with the great weather etc it would have gone down a lot better.

I wonder if ME or EE will invite them back to have another crack at it or if that's it done now for them.

    Why would they ?

All the aggro they got over taxes , similar to Metallica and the hunting issue and the metal @ Glasto debate.

What i did find funny at the time with Metallica was the NME went to Denmark or somewhere to interview the band prior to Glasto and their manager Peter Mensch asked the NME reporter for all the Metallica backlash quotes from likes of Mogwai and Artic Monkeys - which ended up being on some Metallica merchandise i think.

I can just image the NMe reporter quaking as Peter Mensch shouted "Give me it ! "

I wondered if someone would mention that.  I was there but can't remember anything of it having hit the Rum Bar that was at the side of the Other Stage  for quite a few Mojito''s beforehand.  Myself and a mate had secured a comfy sofa and to preserve said sofa we just kept ordering.

"Order another I  cant be arsed to move " was said a number of times.

All those years ago but i can still remember the lime , ginger, mint  and rum tipple
