Glastonbury will be going ahead as normal. It won’t work if there’s any restrictions.

What may happen is that they treat the festival as a holiday destination and you’ll be advised to isolate on your return and you attend at your own risk just as if you were going to Blackpool, Italy or any other potential covid hotspot.

What the festival should do is give existing ticket holders the option to defer their tickets to 2022. For those not willing to take the risk in 2021 or unable to due to other reasons such as exams being moved they should be allowed to retain their ticket for the next year.

Thats a great idea. It then makes it easier (though prob still hard) for us that can isolate and are less vulnerable to the virus a chance to go and keep it ticking over.

Best of all worlds really (obvs if it could go ahead).

  2. Nice, one of the first bands I went to see, think it was a double headline tour with The Coral in 2000.

Im well up for this, Leeds just down the road and that gig is on my birthday so seems like a perfect gig to venture out for. The Cribs, Music, Coral, Skinner Brothers - sounds good to me.

It’s becoming obvious that festivals of all sizes and genres are events which seem to be getting little or no government assistance.

Theres still time yet, there is a grant due to come out for the entertainment industry, mainly aimed at venues and events industry. Unfortunately the government are dragging their heels on these grants as they prepare them for distribution.

That one was announced on July 3rd and nothing new has came out since. There was two grants that were announced in the last month that start distribution in Septemebr so hopefully when they go out then theyll jump on the venue one in time for the pencilled in reopenings in October.

Hopefully at somepoint a festivals grant gets announced. I can see more grants coming but tbf theyve had a mare organising the ones out now so adding more to the mix at the same time would have been messy as hell.

Thats obviosuly to no avail to those needing them but there is hope at least.

Why is this thread in existence?

    We're august 2020 ffs.

Right now let's just look forward to Glasto 2021.

I guess its probably not a huge way off when they have to make a decision. It must be a mare booking bands, staff, tents  equipment, planning permission etc and cost a fair bit of money on deposits, hiring people etc only for it to be cancelled again. They might be able to put some plans down but Id guess theyll want to know its going ahead before they have to start really pushing on. For a festival that size they might beed more than six months notice.

I see some festivals are advertising next year as going ahead now but its risky and could come back to haunt them. Just no way you can feasibly pull off a sociallybdistanced festival, even if you cut the crowd in half to 100k thats a lot of people to try and control who will be drinking and taking drugs for many.

Lets hope they make advancements on the vaccine or the virus mutates to a near non lethal form.

So imagine you missed out on 2020 tickets which were riled over but you get lucky in the October sale.

then the festival is cancelled next year and they cancel the deposits for the next year rather than rolling over. Is that fair?

Theres nowt really fair about any options really. Either your waiting 2/3 plus years to even get a chance at getting a ticket or you have one and have to go through the process again.

Im sure when they make their decisions itll be based on whats best for both the festival and the festival goers but if it is somehow knocked back another year its going to be absolutely disastrous for the festival market as a whole or even the live music scene and I can see many folding so hopefully it doesnt come down to that.

  6. Well I was planning this being my last festival (at least for a while) if I got tickets, which i didnt so basixally just bring my plan to start travelling more forward a year.

Had a look and can do Italy for almost the same price as a Glastonbury ticket so probably gonna go for that, might even sack the resale off.

Fancy doing Holland and theres a couple of stand alone gigs I fancy as well so plenty of alternatives.

May alsonhave a look at alternative fests abroad if I fancy getting another one in and at least I can determine it by the line up if so.

Its not all bad, done the last two so cant complain, its a hrad job to get tickets and felt it would be harder this year so already had it in my mind that I might not get them.

  7. Its pure random luck imo. You get through or you dont, both times Ive been its been a huge mixture of people, all ages, all class backgrounds, people from all over the world, everyones been sound.

I can also assure you that there is plenty of people taking drugs at Glastonbury as well.

Pretty sure that little avenue of pleasure has been closed off for the last couple of years now, and once you have made payment the session ends and you're back to fighting for a new one.

Nah, we done it the last two so it was definitely working last time, you get kicked back to the queue but in the loading screen instead of completely at the back making it easier to score another lot which has worked great for us. Theres only six of us this year sonit doesnt matter but defo worked 2017 and 2019.

Nightmare! My ticket group ended up with 7 people (the dreaded number). Everyone knew everyone except me, so I've bitten the bullet and been the 1 to pull out. Is there anyone out there in a group with space for 1 more? I'll be all hands on deck for the sale, and have never missed out on tickets on all 5 attempts (either me or a friend getting through!)

I dunno if this is the change they are talking about but generally once you get tickets you can go in again and get more so the six restriction doesnt work that way. Wewe done it loads of years where our group has got the original six then whoever got them was able to jump back to the front of the queue and order the second lot.

One of the more obvious signs of how I've aged over my years of following these E-Fests forums, while the gap between my age and that of the average poster on here has gotten bigger, is how incredulous I was to the negative reaction given to The Who headlining on here just 4 years ago ...

or..as my sister texted me on my way to a Who gig earlier this month at Madison Square Garden "Watch out for the 'walkers' in the moshpit!!!"

Nah E Fest posters hate everybody. Near enough every band made it into the who was crap at Glastonbury 2019 thread.

People here often like to be hipsteresque. You actuallybget to the festival and people havent got the same opinion than here by far.

Most forums are like that tbf.

Folk getting riled up by T-Swizzle needn't worry. The festival are sure to balance her out by putting The Stereophonics or The Courteeners on the Other Stage.

Id take Stereophonics on the Other stage tbf, more than a good alternative.

The Courteeners can do one though, they seem to play every festival these days.

I remember seeing him at Leeds when he was supposedly retiring, when he and the noose on stage. It was actually good that day!

I went to that one and it was brilliant tbf. I really dig the last two albums as well, dunno how well they would go down at Glasto but Id be there for sure.

  13. Personally I think both Foals and 1975 are ordinary as well, basically what mid level bands were doing in the early 00s at small venues.

But ea h to their own, I wouldnt be too bothered if both headlined as thatll just mean one less clash to worry about for me and I can look to the other stages for something Im into.

Barely ventured to the pyramid this year and had a great time, some of the smaller stages are great and enjoyed watching random bands in some of the pub stages.

I think most generations hit a point where what comes after what they liked they find pretty guff, its just getting old and not getting what the youngsters do but I do think its important for them to push new bands to headliner status and give the current scenes a big boost.

Though Id probably refrain from doing Foals considering they just played this year, let them do 2021 instead so its a bit of a break.

I think a good balance would be something like 1975, Fleetwood Mac and then Kendrick Lamar for example.  It of a difference between all the headliners, you got your legendary act and then two acts from today with diversity across the genres.

I have another worry. This whole Brexit thing has resurrected the independence debate in Scotland. I had hoped that issue was dead and buried. Now we have the prospect of yet  another divisive vote up here. Johnson being pm isn’t helping. This country, the UK, for all it’s faults, is better together. Brexit could spell the end of the Union. God forbid that. I love the sense of camaraderie that exists at Glastonbury. This Brexit divides people , it’s horrible"

TBF the Scots helped put Boris in charge when they started voting Tory last time out, they need to geit their teeth and grind through as part of their responsibility for putting him there just like the rest of us have to.

  15. So whats the craic with The Kinks. Surely if they are making some new music then they must be near nailed on for Glasto.

Legends slot seems most appropriate and all ties up for the fiftieth. Friends of the festival, first headliners (even though they didnt play in the end), have an area named after one of their songs. Would go down pretty great on a Sunday afternoon, especially the song about lazing on sunny afternoon (hopefully).

Id imagine for a full band its pretty much either headline or legends?

  16. Well Glastonbury has seen a marked improvement in this sort of thing in recent years - not just tent leaving/litter but pissing on the land, plastic ban etc so other festivals should try and implement that approach and see if it improves.

Hiking prices will just justify to some people that they can do as they please as theyve paid the extra expense. Your also pubishing those that do clean up after themselves for others being dicks.

The positives is it might make gettibg tickets easier if prices hike as itll push some people ovee the edge I guess.
