Hopefully they will be sensible about this and only do the pick up on Monday from Yellow. There were no problems getting to the old drop off point on the Tuesday last time were there?

I’m sure there was a mention in the Avalon terms.  Something along the lines of ‘making your way to and from the coach park’, which implies we’re being dumped at Yellow on Tuesday.

  2. Incase anyone else forgot too, or didn’t know; I was also reminded that requests for buddies/groups etc and bar preferences all get handled around training time - which I think should be in April.

So did you get sent a deposit page link via email then?

Yep, you get an approval email saying you’ve been accepted.

You can then log back into Avalon and the ‘awaiting approval’ notice will have changed to ‘pay deposit’.

  4. We were over at The Cockmill (next to Acoustic Tent). Nice bar, you get more of the senior crowd...lots of ale and gin drinkers! Loved it -  I'd go back there happily, or maybe try a new bar!?. I worked Bar Henge (what was Williams Green) one night too.
Thing is - I love the daytime just as much as the night, so I'm easy as to when my shifts are - but I'm aware the shifts we got wouldn't be everyones cup of tea. Maybe we'll get more of a mix of shifts this year, who knows....right now we're just super-excited to be heading back once more.

  5. Our shifts weren't good - but I'd still take that over not going at all.
    Three late shifts - Thursday & Saturday 6:30pm - 2:30am, and Sunday 4:30 - 12:30am.

I know some others in our team kicked off a bit for being given triple lates, but I couldn't really see anything coming from it...so we just sucked it up.

Doesn't bother me, but I guess that's to stop people dumping them for re-sale tickets or alternative volunteering.

    Awwww....

    Fair enough

Oh crumbs..... literally the opposite side of the site to the Avalon campsite.

Based on the mess things became with pick-ups last year, I can understand transport arrangements needing to change.

Saw the booking page, entered the reg no's, next page was Event Not Found so must have been right on the point of sell-out.
Preference is train travel so go again on Sunday.

Similar story here. Reg's entered, then some form of server error - clicked back and it took me onto ol' bluey. Gutted.

I think for a lot of people who work long hours with limited holiday days a working holiday really isn't ideal/viable.

I love Glastonbury but it also needs to be an actual break from work to make it worthwhile for me.

Especially as I'm lucky to be able to afford it, but no matter what you earn, you can't buy more time.

Jury's out for me - but I do get to find out first hand if its for me or not this year.

Here's how I currently see it:
If you exclude the Monday/Tuesday, that's 120 hours of festival time from Wednesday morning to Sunday night.
I'll be working a total of 24 hours, 3 shifts over those 5 days. That's...20% of the festival period working.

I could afford a ticket, but I'll also enjoy the fact that I'm donating my time to a charity - and I get the rub of doing what I like for the other 80%, and with no ticket cost (so long as I do my shifts).

Granted, some of that time will be asleep....but I still think it's still worth a shot, especially as it's my only way in this year!

  9. Having the power to decide who does and doesn't get a ticket is huge - and that's what being able to transfer tickets about would enable.  I doubt the festival want to start handing that power over to the ticket holders. It's way too risky.

The system is harsh, but it was harsh to me and millions of others on T-day too. All I know is when October comes around again, I don't want that scramble to include touts too. If Glastonbury relax the rules on transferring, the touts would be straight back to bulk-buying tickets again. I'm old enough to remember how much it sucked the last time round.

Quick question for any Shelter volunteers.

Any news on whether the buses are Bristol only again?

Yep it looks to be Bristol only. Have you not had the email from Hana at Avalon Bars yet?

  11. Sounds just as brutal as back in Feb.
Gutted for everyone who missed out.  I see the options are all still blocked out on the Oxfam reg form, so here's hoping there's a chance of a few more dropping back on in the hours to come?

Hi all! I'm volunteering with Shelter for the first time. Has anyone heard about the training or transport yet? Also if anyone knows of a Facebook or WhatsApp group that would be great as I'll be coming on my own. Thanks! X

Wife & I will be first time Shelterers too this year.  I sent off an email to Shelter last week asking for any hints of when we’ll start to get some details through from Avalon Bars, but no reply yet. I don’t know if there are any social groups! 🤷🏻‍♂️

I know Bristol quite well through work trips (pre booked hotel etc) but if you are ok with Cheap and cheerful and shared room, the YHA down by the harbour is a good option.  I am a member which means the best room rate deals.  cant fault it generally for a cheap hit.  If there are several of you then hotel may be better option for shared room but solo can be dear.

YHA Bristol Hostel | Cheap Bristol City Centre Accommodation

    Thanks!

The pick-up location for the Shelter bus might decide what our options are. If we can get away with a short walk from hotel to bus, we'll usually take it....

If Shelter pick up near the harbour, I'd take a look for sure

  15. Any Shelter volunteer veterans out there who can advise on when we ought to hear from the them (or Avalon Bars) about the 'next steps' alluded to in the confirmation email?

I wouldn't mind getting stuff like hotel and travel booked - but little idea where in the city we need to be, or when for atm.

That’s terrible, they should at least promise you a priority place for next year if you don’t get a drop out place this year.

Maybe, I sent a brief reply just to acknowledge their email and confirm we're obviously gutted to have been cut from their list.

Their response appears to be mostly about having zero tolerance for hate speech - so not sure what happened there but sounds unlikely we'll be offered any form of priority on anything.
