    On headliners.

Not bothered else I would not have got tickets already, but talking generally .......

Please can we have a good set of headline acts on woods/garden that you can dance or jump around to. I'm not talking every single night on both, variety is great, and the best night I had this year was not that upbeat, but some years have struggled a bit in this department. This year got the mix bang on imo.

Plus less white male headliners. I see effort at EOTR compared to other festivals. Keep pushing please.

On the rest of the bill.

Keep doing what you are doing.

Those posting above with those humongous lists of acts. Genuine question. Where are you getting the info on these people? I recognize at best 1/4 of that long list. For me EOTR is a prime source of finding new-to-me music I like, but it would be great to expand my horizons a bit more.

For new acts I use Bandcamp a lot. In fact if someone isn't on there I'm immediately suspicious as to why! One good way on there is to follow record labels so you get notifications whenever anything on that label is released.

Also listening to NTS opens me up to a lot of music from all styles.

Otherwise it's word of mouth from friends, going to a lot of gigs and making sure I watch all the support bands and checking out line ups for festivals and things I'm not going to.

Might as well use this as a general 2024 wishlist thread. Going to focus on acts which have released an album this year. I've really enjoyed all of the following over the past 8 months and could definitely see at least a few of them making an appearance next year:

    Dougie Poole
    The Clientele
    Billy Woods & Kenny Segal
    Dudu Tassa & Johnny Greenwood
    Colin Stetson
    Young Fathers
    Kelela
    Tim Hecker
    Model/Actriz
    Lankum
    Andy Shauf
    Fever Ray
    REZN
    ANOHNI and the Johnsons
    The Lemon Twigs
    Susanne Sundfør
    The Canyon Observer
    Gia Margaret
    The Tubs
    Rắn Cạp Đuôi
    Lucy Liyou
    Hayden Pedigo
    Home Is Where
    Loopsel
    Maya Ongaku
    Terje Torkellsen
    The Reds, Pinks & Purples
    Nuovo Testamento
    Rose City Band
    Andrea
    Sluice
    Celestaphone
    Flyying Colours
    Ayano Kaneko

I'd buy a ticket for that. Some quality names on there, happy to see Loopsel who I really like.

I'm on the lookout for something to do in addition to EotR. Ideally much earlier in the season to bookend the summer.
(Wondered about Bearded Theory but I dunno.)

Depends what music you like. Truck is at the start of the school holidays so could be an option although it's pretty indie heavy.

Kite festival in Oxford has an eclectic line up and lots of talk stuff if that's your thing.

    2000 Trees?

We Out Here is the weekend before Green Man in August so may not be early enough but it's one that I have heard a lot of good things about.

At festivals in the 90s you didn't drop the best part of 700 quid on tickets (two adults, a kid and a campervan).

Simon needs to realise that he's charging people a fair old bunce so should provide some decent services, like EOTR used to do very well.  You may not have encountered any issues but you're probably a healthy adult male, not a woman (with period or fashion challenges - they were hardly outfit friendly, unless you like your clothes covered in piss), a child or someone with mobility issues.

As was mentioned further up the thread, the staff and performer bogs were not composters - ask yourself why?

For clarity I have no problem with composting loos per se, or looking at the contents, it's just that the design of the stalls is abysmal from a usage perspective.

I have a female partner and 2 kids. None of them complained.

I wasn't sure what was meant by fashion challenges so asked my partner who said "don't wear clothes which require a load of effort to take off for a wee."

She also went to GM with the same toilets at that time of the month and didn't complain then either.

Staff and performers always have better facilities than regular punters, that's a given at pretty much every festival.

I already commented on people with mobility issues who would have struggled but the overwhelming majority of people don't and some of those are seemingly getting irrationally annoyed by something that isn't a big deal.

  5. Good: Saturday. An astonishing run of wildly different acts. All of Mabe Fratti, Avalanche Kaito, They Hate Change and Moin were up there with the best of the festival and they all came in a row. The best day I've had at a festival.

Special mentions also to Kara Jackson, Arooj Aftab, Crack Cloud, Wilco, Deerhoof and Joan Shelley.

The bad: Nothing was bad but I was very indifferent to Bar Italia. Some good songs but not a great band. Settling up in the rain on Thursday was vaguely miserable but all forgotten very quickly.

Ugly: Wasps were a bit of a pest. Southampton's 5-0 hammering on Saturday during that great run of acts wasn't great and the look of horror on some chaps face who was wearing their shirt when I told him the score was only offset by the hilarity which ensued as his mates took the piss.

This is a thread about the bogs though.

    They were grim.

    I don't agree.

Festival toilets in the 90's were grim. My experience of these at EOTR and GM was that they were fine.

They obviously aren't in the pristine realms of Andy Loos but I didn't encounter any issues.

I thought they were allright tbh. Was worried about the lack of urinals at first but don't think it made much difference in the end, rarely queued more than a moment or two.

None of the people I was with had any problems either.

Understandably there are people with mobility or health issues who might have struggled however for the overwhelming majority of people this is not an issue. Deciding not to come back to the best festival in the country because of toilets that you spend a few minutes a day in is, in my opinion, a frankly ridiculous stance to have.

There were portaloo style toilets in the car park and by Talking Heads if you were adamant that you couldn't use a compost loo. Possibly there were others on site too.

Personally I'd rather focus on the incredible line up, the outstanding musicians I saw and the overwhelmingly friendly crowd than whether there was a hook on the door of the bogs.

Just seen the full list - Kings of Convenience would also be wonderful as a headliner. And I’m not sure how likely this is given that they don’t seem to have played in the UK since 2001, but an appearance by Bob Hund on the line-up would make my year.

They played some outstore gigs a couple of years ago in support of the latest album. Wasn't a full gig as such but they did over 45 minutes which was decent.

How was Mr Avery on Friday night, anyone? We had to abandon things on Friday night (including Devo... arggh) due to the rain and I had intended seeing him.

He was good. I guess some may say it took a while to get going but I love the ambient soundscapes. I managed maybe an hour before tiredness and the mud got to me.

    OK....so.....*deep breath*

I am a trolley bastard. We have a kid. This was her third Green Man. IT was my.......er.....8th? WE had a lovely time.

I understand how they can be a bastard to negotiate. I, like im sure most others, are constantly aware of our surroundings. WE spent a lot of time in Far Out, right at the back. We only did this as there was space to do so. If it ever got busy, we would remove ourselves. Not all trolley users are cnuts.

(a separate point : it didnt help on friday when they seemed to section off most of the field at far out for the burning REALLY early! Like, at 4pm or something? Why so early? How are those with modility issues (and, yes, trolley bastards) supposed to negotiate to see something at far out? It was a bit naff. But i digress...)

We used a Mr Trolley which, despite being a LOT of effort (they are stupid heavy. Even without a 5 stone kid in it), was a godsend. For context, Our kid has lots of disabilities. One of them which necessitate the use of said trolley is right sided hemiplegia/Cerebal Palsy. She loves to have 'a boogie' (her words) but gets tired very easily due to said CP (which, with some of her other 'issues', can be fatal. Joy of joy's). However, she is in this 'half way' house where she isn't disabled enough (yet) to warrant a wheelchair but is disabled enough to need help. Hence the trolley.

Now.......Im not naive enough to think that the trolley haters are anti disabled, obviously. (I should also point out this is NOT a direct attack on Benali, who I have had lots of lovely discussions in the past. I'm just quoting his post to make a point) However....maybe have a little thought in the back of your mind to think that, just maybe, some trolleys might be needed? For whatever reason? Thanks.

Whilst Im typing a mini essay, I should also say thanks to the accessibility team for being so great. Luke & Co. work their socks off to make the event as hassle free as possible. ESPECIALLY on the viewing platform in Far Out, which enhanced my kid's festival no end!

Oh, and Crows smashed it. All else, no matter how good they were (And there was very good stuff. Obviously. Its bloody Green Man, innit) palled in comparison.

And it was great to see Big Jeff at the barrier for Les Savy Fav. Where he belongs. x

I'm definitely not a trolley hater. I didn't have any problems with them over the weekend, my post above was just my thoughts on our experiences with small kids at GM and our preference not to use them.

As you say there will be some who need to use a trolley due to accessibility circumstances, I can't imagine anyone would have an issue with that at all.

I also understand that some parents wouldn't be as considerate as you. We went to the first few Camp Bestivals and there were certainly people there selfishly annexing off large parts of the site with trolleys.

I would like to echo your comments about the accessibility team. A bloke I know had a foot op not long ago and is wearing a protective boot. He emailed GM beforehand and they said they don't give out accessibility passes to people recovering from operations.

However on Thursday one of the accessibility team whisked him off in a buggy and got him a pass to use all weekend which absolutely made his festival a lot easier and more enjoyable.

I'm glad you had a lovely time.

So tickets on Sale 30th Sept for 2024.

We are going to go next year (hopefully) to give it a go as we drive right past the site every year on route to Beautiful Days so it seems rather sensible to try our 'local' festival. No idea really why we never have before,

Anyway, any tips etc appreciated. We want to try for Settlement tickets and presume they go fast. is that the case?

Yes they will sell out very quickly, likely in minutes.

GM use Ticketline for some reason and this year it was a bit of a shambles as the site crashed, so you have to add that into the mix too!

No issue with properly supervised children or it being family friendly. But family friendly should also mean people with young families taking others into account. It's a two way street.

My group included children who had a great time. Youngest had a small fold up pram. Folded away as soon as it looked like standing room was at a premium. You can't do that with a massive wooden trolley and people seem unwilling to move them when they're clearly being an inconvenience.

When our kids were little we only ever used the fold up stroller/buggy things. Even managed the horrendous mud of GM 2007 with one of those.

Would never have considered dragging a huge trolly around all weekend, it seems like far too much effort, not to mention the expense of hiring them.

  13. Had a great time. Wasn't up there with the best Green Man's but a solid festival nonetheless.

Music highlights were Deathcrash who were utterly spellbinding, clipping and Young Fathers who ended the festival with an incredible show.

Also very much enjoyed Horace Andy who quite rightly had a massive crowd all of who had big smiles, and Lankum who it seems we were lucky to see as they have cancelled a bunch of upcoming dates.

As usual I spent a lot of time at Rising where Butch Kassidy stood out.

Best food I had was Vegan Junkies in Nature Nurture, then Kerala Kitchen and the Indonesian Curry in Walled Garden.

Didn't have many drinks from the Courtyard but everything I did try was great.

Had phone signal most of the time, could listen to radio on it at the tent no problems and then only a couple of places around the site where access dropped out completely. Was also helped by having access to another WiFi source at certain spots in the arena - the public one didn't seem to work for me.

Can't say I noticed the trolleys being a problem although I didn't spend a huge amount on the main stage where I presume the issues were.

Friday's rain was a bit annoying but then we were in Far Out for most of the time it pissed down. One of my only complaints was the lack of effort to sort out the mud in there. It was still quite grim on the right hand side by the time Young Fathers played which was nearly 48 hours after the bad rain. They put some down Saturday morning but none after that.

A week or so to recover and then it's time for EOTR.

It feels a bit weird to be in costume five days before their set, although apparently she's also Alabaster DePlume's drummer. I think most people had assumed the TBA was The Last Dinner Party playing an extra set given even on GM's own official podcast Pete Paphides said they'd surely have to be moved to a bigger stage.

Agree it's weird. I don't think it will be SA though.

Hi all! We bought greenman tickets for the family but the infants had sold out. I thought as they were free that we would be able to add on but greenman have said we need a resale ticket. Not sure how likely this will be as the infant ones are free of charge. Wondering if anyone has a spare infant ticket, or alternatively would pay for a little folks ticket. Thanks in advance.

This could be risky, but a family turned up yesterday with a kid they didn't have a ticket for and they basically let them pay whatever the ticket price was and let them in.

You may not be so lucky but depends how risk adverse you are!

We normally get there at around that time or just after. Two years ago it was a bad idea, there was a big queue at the box office. Last year was fine though. They'd moved the box office, made it much larger with more staff and there was no queue at all. Assuming it's like last year, 10 should be fine. The only thing to be wary of, is that it can take a while for them to open the main festival site. Last year we were kicking our heels in camping for a bit because it took them a while to let people in. I think maybe it was around 2pm? Might be misremembering though.

The delay to opening the site seems to happen every year for some reason. Quite often can be 30 minutes or more until they allow people in.

that's a LOT of ales!  Excellent!

Only 2 ciders on that list!  Doesn't bother me as I won't touch the stuff, but my friends will.  Are there more ciders listed available than those two westons ones?

    There's loads of cider tooIMG20230814181111.thumb.jpg.4349202e3a9f18884391a9af8f2ffb3d.jpg

  18. At settlers and just looked through this so will answer a few questions.

The ground is fine, there's a couple of small areas of mud but nothing significant and that will dry out over the next few days. The issue is Friday and how much it rains. The site will be perfect for Thursday though.

Bars have reusable cups, these are slightly different to the last ones and are a bit taller and thinker. The stacker handles are hexagonal rather than circular.

I brought an old stacker cup which wasn't even a GM branded one and the guy accepted it.
