In the legend slot no less! Strange one because she was at her peak commercially when I was in my late teens yet I don't remember anyone being into her. A quick Google search revealing 9 UK top 10 singles and 3 number 1 albums certainly came as a surprise. Alanis Morissette was maybe a couple of years before but was WAY more popular in school despite having far less commercial success.

Think thats boys in the better land. Liberty belle was a favourite of mine off that album TBH I never really gave the other albums a whole lot of time. Life is that busy these days that stuff rarely gets multiple goes to bed in.

If youd done a thread on here asking who people would like to see in the legend slot over the next few years prior to her being rumoured and the touring and being at BST etc. I don't think her name would have come up at all in that conversation.

Dogrel was far and away their best album for me. Have lost interest since mostly. Some decent tunes but all a bit dreary after that.

I agree. Have always felt Shania feels more like a pyramid sub slot and Stevie Nicks more suited to the legend slot if she's playing.

Booked flights and national express coaches for the in laws as well as hotel in Bristol for Monday night after for them and accommodation for the night before for my missus and kids. Will be booking ferry for the rest of us on Friday when I get paid. Starting to feel real, just need an announcement.

It's paradoxical in a way. It's very rare that we know so little so late. But at the same time in my experience it's rare that we are so confident on who the headliners are before they are announced.

What qualifies a booking as a "soft headliner gamble". I'd posit the essential criteria are: 1. Haven't headlined before 2. Not global mega star status On that basis Dua Lipa in my mind was that booking. Young, relatively new act with only two albums behind her (and one to come). If you're going more of a gamble than that you're just into "not headliner material" territory.

It's not a "blessing". It's the hottest ticket in the world in part because people know from 50 years of evidence that they consistently book the biggest acts to headline. People want the biggest acts in the world at the biggest festival in the world on the most famous stage in the world. You still get the next-tier-down sized acts in prominent slots on big stages or headlining smaller stages. If you shoehorn them in to slots too big for them to appease the "playing it safe" weirdos then you're left with the "past it's best, no longer relevant" weirdos (who id hazard are often the same people) and a less satisfied customer base and a less marketable product. That's "playing it stupid".
