Definitely Coldplay.
Probably Dua though Jungle on WH is very tempting.
Won’t be at SZA with The National on the Other.

I just think they could get a better ‘older act’ than pulp as a headliner, and I say that as a fan!
I do agree though, an older act and 2 contemporary is the way to go, we have been spoilt rotten and I do agree depth is better than stacked headliners, that’s almost another reason I want Pulp on the bill but not as a headliner.
Bad example, but if there was a year they could get Springsteen, Rolling Stones and someone like The Who, do you think they would decline as there all similar ish older bands? That’s another subject though! Haha
That last paragraph is a fair point and no I strongly doubt they would. Certainly not judging by 2009 and 2023. I remember Michael defending the set of ‘oldies’ headliners in ‘09 with a paraphrasing of that exact defence-this is our chance to book them and we have to take it.

Currently having a debate with someone.
In this current era are pulp big enough to headline Glastonbury?
Let’s say it’s not there final show, and they’ve just been booked to play, would they headline or would it be a sub or Other slot?
I think it depends who the other two headliners. If they’ve got a couple of acts with a younger appeal or that are massive cross-generational draws then yes.
For example Olivia Rodrigo/Taylor Swift/Pulp would absolutely work.
Im not sure e.g. Sam Fender/Raye/Pulp would look right.

Yeah third from top for him wouldn't surprise me.
His only other non-festival gig is Piece hall in Halifax, same place Blondie are playing who were also 3rd down last year, and Noel Gallagher in 2022 who subbed that year. He seems the sort of act that does well with the Glastonbury crowd too so they'd bump him up a bit.
Fair point

All three of this years third downs seem like they should be a slot lower tbf, and Kiwanuka sticks out the most. Maybe it’ll make more sense come the festival assuming he’ll have a new album out, but he currently pales in comparison to a lot of the third downs we’ve had in the past.
Yeah I agree. Is that definite then?

IDLES are Friday as elsewhere on other days.
The rest is not definate Fri/St/Sun in order on poster though as if you take out Shania Twain on Pyramid them Michael Kinawuka would be Sunday but he is playing Saturday.
There will be some surprises in who is what day which hopefully will help with clashesIs Kiwanuka definitely Saturday?
Hang on is he third top? Seems high.

Eh? 2008 sold out on the day and 2009 sold out in February. 2008 was definitely the turning point. I don't think 2010 sold out because Young/Springsteen/Blur were there the previous year. That's not an logical interpretation.
The post I was replying to said “2008 was vintage. 2009 was cracking too. And it sold out quickly off the back of 2008. It was a turning point”
2009 went on sale on 5 October 2008 and sold out on February 3 2009. That isn’t quick. That and 2008 are the only festivals since 2002 that didn’t sell out on ticket day.

No. It was a brilliant lineup. There was some indie landfill, granted, but across the board it was a varied, well curated lineup. This year's lineup would love a Leonard Cohen or Neil Diamond or Any Winehouse. 2008 was vintage. 2009 was cracking too. And it sold out quickly off the back of 2008. It was a turning point.
Glastonbury 2009 took 4 months to sell out. It was 2010 that sold out really quickly off the back of Blur, Bruce, Neiler and co

Surely too soon since they headlined to play Pyramid again.
Would diminish it if they ever headlined in the future too.
The Foos was a random one.
If any headline size act was to do a secret set it doesn’t matter how recently they’ve actually headlined

But getting the set right is the problem to mass appeal. Their fans (including me) like the fact that they throw in album tracks/deep cuts and as much as I loved seeing the one night at Ally Pally that I went to, I also thought I missed out on some fav tracks on the other night.
Not sure they have a greatest hits but doubt that if they came out and played there best tracks, most easy listening ones, they would pick up loads of new fans who might not even know who they are but just watch what ever comes on the BBC coverage. However, are they the sort of band to do that? or will they curate a set their fans will like but will leave others wondering what all the fuss is about.
There’s definitely an opportunity there, they just need to make the setlist very heavy on their better known songs. Don’t do what they did on the Pyramid in 2017.

or she doesnt want to do the biggest performence of her life as a last minute decision. i reckon shes a possible secret set / guest with avril. almost certainly going as a punter too. she spent alot of time dancing in the field after her last set.
I reckon she’ll be there to scope it out for next year and do a guest slot

Here you go mate, not that it's worth the read.
What on Earth is she on about? A lot of acts do their normal thing with maybe a tweak or two. McCartney did literally his normal set with a couple of guests-Jon Bon Jovi according to the author 🤷♂️

None of my group are putting back in, none of my mates who will be in the resale are any less determined to get tickets.

Currently working through the announced acts in alphabetical order.
Barry Can’t Swim
Blondshell
Alvvays
Black Pumas
Asha Puthli
Floweroflove
Are the ones I’ve enjoyed so far

I enjoyed the 2 performances from Jordan they put out to promote it. The most recent album did nothing for me.
I was surprised when I looked at the sales of their records, neither of their last 2 albums went platinum, it really does feel like the majority of their success these days is about the quality of their live performances.
Didn’t they talk about stopping doing albums altogether and just touring? They should do that. Just put out any good tracks they come up with. Their ticket sales are ridiculous.

The more I think on this the more odd it seems. Clearly will be match fit from the GUTS tour, seemingly a GSH. Can only think other unannounced dates/festival appearances will be forthcoming.
She seems to be pacing herself touring wise. She turned down much bigger venues in 2022 than she could have played and I guess has decided to focus on Arenas this year. She is only young, it’s actually quite sensible not to rush things. I’d be amazed if she isn’t headlining next year, probably with a few other festival gigs.

As I said a few days ago
”
Feel like I’m at a familiar point in the cycle here. As we get close to poster time I have a long list of acts who are touring and could play, that probably couldn’t realistically fit on the bill in appropriate positions. Then when the poster drops I’m disappointed they’re not all there.
Then I dig into the names and discover new stuff, and zero in on the big names on the bill I do want to see. Get more and more excited as it gets closer.
Then the full line up comes out and loads of them clash.
Then I switch to checking the weather forecast every 7 minutes.
Then I have an amazing time despite forgetting acts I wanted to see.
Its the circle of life.”
At the bold bit currently, though normally I’m more disappointed than this TBH.

Their last couple of albums have been baaaaad. Like, bad enough to even alienate people like me who previously kept defending them long after they stopped being ‘cool’. If they promised to play the hits I’d see them again but the current tour setlist has a bit too much new stuff on considering most of what they’ve released since 2015 has been crap.
Sure they’ll get it right on the Pyramid though.
I haven’t listened to the last one but I thought Everyday Life was good, quite uncommercial for them. They’ll bin a lot of the chaff for the Pyramid though I’m sure.

I know quoting yourself is bad form but many of you are just at the last sentence of the first paragraph above -

I mean I get why Glastonbury would book them and not arguing that they wouldn't it is just a shame that it's Coldplay headlining. I'm sure they'll smash it (I like some Coldplay stuff) and I know other festivals repeat headliners (often when constrained to certain genres) the same or more often. But even though it's because of pandemic/ fallow year not given the top slot to someone else considering there has only been four festivals since they last did it. Has there been any big Coldplay songs in the zeitgeist since then? Genuine question. There was 7 festivals between artic monkey appearances and people still thought that was a boring booking.
But yeah I agree with all the arguments. it's been eight years I guess, Coldplay are safe n reliable. You don't have to watch pyramid headliners, I like seeing headliners on other stages just feel it's a shame because seeing a band headline pyramid is always a moment n I always rather them present something new or risky. Or at least a less beige safe option.
I guess I'm more a fan of fun choices n sza n dua lipa are so much more interesting to me even though I haven't listened that much to either. But if there's been loads of drop outs etc it's just again a shame how Coldplay is the go to safe bet in such an interesting festival
I think Coldplay were locked in ages ago. It only seems repetitive to those of us lucky enough to go to Glastonbury m. To the outside world they’re about the biggest band in the world, a hard ticket to get/afford, doing their only festival set on the entire tour.
Since 2016 they’ve had the one with Chainsmokers (I think) and the one with BTS that was absolutely massive. I think Higher Power did ok too, even if it was just people thinking it was a funky remix of Boys of Summer 😁

Gonna give Neil the benefit of the doubt here. Whenever he has said ‘stand by your beds’ he’s got it right. He hasn’t said it every year.

As someone who was born in 1977 and lived through Thatcher, Major, Blair, Brown, Cameron and the whole cavalcade of c**ts that followed him it’s very easy to be enthusiastic about Starmer. I was 11 when Thatcher left. I was 20 when Blair got in. I was 33 when Cameron got in. I know the f**king difference.
