  1. They're not uninspiring in the way that KoL are, but 90% of people who would watch The Killers would be there for Mr Brightside, Somebody Told Me etc, it's the same as people seeing KoL for Sex on Fire (except Killers' have more top level songs). And yeah, agree about them not playing R&L for 15 years being crazy, they would have gone down far better than some of the dross we've had since, e.g. KoL.
  2. The Killers would be an incredibly safe headliner guaranteed to draw a crowd so I'm surprised they haven't done it since 2008. Wouldn't be terribly inspiring but that's one of Melvin's criteria right there
  3. Camping chairs are awkward to carry anyway never mind three. Last year was my easiest trip to Leeds ever, 40 minutes door to tent, wristband exchange took longer than the drive! I hear good things about the coop every year but the one at Leeds this year had a 30 minute queue every time we walked past, which would be fine if we weren't staying in the campervan field 20 minute walk from the arena! Worst thing was the arena running out of wine by 3pm on day one
  4. For the first time ever none of us had to go back to the car at Leeds last year. Tent, sleeping bag, mat, chair, clothes etc shoved in a rucksack, swapped most of my ale for spirits crucially, one case at the bottom of the sack truck with the spirits in the bag. Would've been a breeze of a walk into the site if the sack truck didn't have an unfixable puncture.
  5. Said as well he doesn’t know if Catfish are still a thing or not. They kicked Billy Bibby out in 2014 and Bondy came in but that went a lot more under the radar. Time will tell I guess
  6. MSE: Billie Eilish, My Chemical Romance, Dua Lipa MSW: Courteeners, Tyler the Creator, Sam Fender
  7. I agree completely, if we thought R&L has changed over the last 5-10 years we haven't seen anything yet. Personally I don't like that we're seeing more and more tik tok artists but that's where the school leavers are getting their music and it's opening the festival up to more popular/female/mainstream acts which from an unselfish standpoint is a good thing. Hate to say it but when Download eventually moves with the times and books fresh headliners I'll probably sack R&L off
  8. Smashing, I definitely told people at R&L like I was in the know 😂
  9. We're they meant to be a secret set at R&L this year or have I made that up? I was assuming that with them cancelling their tour with Spiritbox they we're both going to make an appearance
  10. My thoughts exactly, Serge has pretty much been the de facto front man anyway and if he’s written all the songs it makes no difference
  11. I should've really known that considering I'm from the same village as The Music...
  12. It just sounded like the record with Tom during Ill Ray:
  13. If Green Day, FOB and Weezer play the same 17-23 song set lists they have on the US leg of the tour it’ll be an absolute bargain. I’d struggle to justify paying more than the £82.50 I’ve paid for Foos, Hella Mega, My Chemical Romance to be honest.
  14. I was literally about to post the same thing. Green Day and Fall Out Boy could charge about £70 and £60 standing each with an average support act and with Weezer as well the Hella Mega Tour has an insane lineup for the money. RHCP are definitely taking the mick, no two ways about it.
  15. Steel city revival headed by AM, BMTH and WSS hahaha
  16. Oh yeah don't get me wrong, Tranquility Base was shit, never mind that being the follow up to AM after a five year wait. Musically speaking it's a good album but I don't know what they were thinking with it or that they thought it'd appeal to their core audience. The lulls when they played anything off it at Sheffield Arena on the 2018 tour were mad, completely lost the room at times
  17. Yeah they'll get a shitload of money for not much work if they do a UK festival or two. Not done Glasto since 2013, R&L since 2014 they're overdue, even for them. TRNSMT and anyone who went got incredibly lucky in 2018
  18. If this new album does come out in the next year or two then you'd have to say either Glasto/BST would be in their sights in 2022/23 and maybe R&L/TRNSMT/Sheffield/stadium tour in 2023/24. Still can't believe they only did arenas last time they were in the UK
  19. There'll be countless people who didn't see them before they split. They'd get a heroes welcome wherever they played but I think they'd get a more genuine crowd at DL for want of a better word, half the crowd at R&L this year were there to cause trouble. If MCR did Leeds though it'd be as convenient as it gets for me, I live two miles away so it took me 40 minutes door to tent this year 😂
  20. I’d say MCR would be a massice booking for either, I know what you mean about R&L but day tickets would sell out crazy fast for an MCR-headlined rock/pop punk day, even in the current climate, especially if there’s no Glasgow outdoor gig or arena tour between now and summer 2023. Very interested to know what MCR have planned after the MK gigs
  21. I guess my point comes down from me being a disillusioned R&L goer wanting something somewhere between what R&L is and what Download is. I guess what I'm after is 2000 Trees or even Slam Dunk but on a grander scale. It all boils down to Download needing to stop booking the same predictable headliners and start promoting new ones. It just seems hellbent on booking a safe, legacy-style headliner or two when in reality it'd do them a favour to take the risk and promote from within or tweak the style ever so slightly. I'm obviously not asking for indie rock or anything close but they're definitely missing a trick not booking certain acts.
  22. I'd love to see acts like these play, BMTH, Slaves, Yungblud, MGK, NBT and Royal Blood seem to be staples of R&L lineups but can't cross over into Download territory for whatever reason. Download needs to accept that it's going to have to take the leap of faith and start booking these new wave of acts that aren't their traditional idea of rock/metal or it'll die a death. They'll never please everybody but overall satisfaction with the current criteria for booking acts has to be declining, hence the thread.
  23. Still hoping the Pit/FR mashup was due to Covid but I think I'm in denial there. If it wasn't bad enough losing a day of the Pit, losing two days of the FR was arguably worse overall. So many of the main stage bands this year like Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Wombats, Wolf Alice, Tom Grennan, Sports Team, Easy Life, Sea Girls, The Snuts to name a few have all come through the FR. The Pit might not be so relevant right now but the FR is essential. I kn0w Stormzy came through the 1xtra but the humble guitar is completely outnumbered now and it's sad to see
